  • Patent number: 5922128
Abstract: In a device for the coating of a running web of paper or cardboard, provisions are that in a press gap formed between two rolls a coating substance applied in a very small quantity on the surface of the one roll is first pressed on the web leaving a very thin coat on the web which, however, covers all spots including the "mounds" of microroughness. Next, the second coat can be applied and dosed on the still moist first coat with the usual means. In the process, the first coat is preferably dosed on the shell of the first roll, by means of the peripheral grooves of a rotary doctor. The same may be performed also as regards the second coating on the web.

  • Patent number: 5914009
Abstract: A two-wire former of a papermaking making machine has the following characteristics: (1) two continuous, loop-shaped wires (1, 2) form together an inlet gap for the paper pulp suspension; (2) a sheet forming zone has a section in which both wires are guided parallel to each other; (3) a plurality of guide rollers are arranged inside and outside both wire loops; (4) a roller (3, 4) associated to each wire loop deflects the associated wire at the beginning of the parallel section; (5) at least one of both inlet rollers (3, 4) has a circumferential area that forms no closed surface (forming roller). According to the invention, (6) both wires runs on the paper pulp-bearing section in a substantially horizontal direction; (7) the top wire is separated from the bottom wire by a separating suction box (8) with a curved surface; (8) the dewatering element (7.1) that follows the forming roller on the same side of the wire is provided with elastically suspended dewatering strips (7.3).

  • Patent number: 5885420
Abstract: A headbox for a papermaking machine with an outlet slot that distributes pulp suspension over the, working width of the papermaking machine. For controlling operating parameters of throughput, pulp density and fiber quality of the suspension over the width of the machine, the headbox has a plurality of individual sections across the width of the machine. Each section has respective channels therethrough for passing pulp suspension. At least one connection at each section is to a controllable supply of pulp suspension where the operating parameters of that supply are controllable. Only separate operating parameter controlled streams pass through the sections of the headbox. Operating parameter control devices may deliver adjusted streams to a mixer upstream of the headbox channels. The mixer may also have individual sections across the width of the machine.

  • Patent number: 5853544
Abstract: In a twin-wire former for the production of a paper web, two wire belts (11 and 12) together form a twin-wire zone which is divided into three sections (I, II and III). In the first section (I) the two wires (11, 12) travel over a curved forming shoe (16). They form there a wedge-shaped inlet slot (15) with which a headbox (10) is directly associated. In the second section (II), several resiliently supported strips (27) rest against the lower wire (11) and between each of said strips (27) a rigidly mounted strip (28) rests against the upper wire (12). In the third section (III) both wire belts (11, 12) pass over another curved forming shoe (23).

  • Patent number: 5713693
Abstract: The invention concerns a shaft-hub joint between two equiaxial machine parts for transmission of high torques in a power train--a first machine part on the power input end and a second machine part of the power output end. The machine parts are joined to each other in a fashion movable relative to each other but rotationally fixed, and a positive-locking overload relief mechanism is provided between the machine parts, the individual locking elements of which are prestressed in the sense of locking. The overload relief mechanism locks the two machine parts against axial thrust up to a specific adjustable limit value whereby the positive locking will be eliminated when the limit value is exceeded. The interlocking elements comprise bolts with a head surface beveled in wedge fashion.

  • Patent number: 5707489
Abstract: A method of processing recycled paper which contains such a high amount of wax, hot melts or stickies that they would be expected to cause a stoppage of the paper-manufacturing machine. The paper to be recycled is pulped in a pulper and passed on to respective subsequent stages which include a despecker, grader and hydrocyclone. Pulping takes place at a temperature of at least 60.degree. C., and at the same time subjects the paper to a high shear action. The processing line includes a pulp-thickening stage, preferably after the processing stages mentioned, in order to separate off a very high proportion of the wax, hot melts and stickies finely dispersed in the pulper.

  • Patent number: 5702760
Abstract: A coating system for material webs, specifically of paper or cardboard, includes two mutually parallel rolls directly coordinated with each other, the rolls having a mutually variable spacing such that the rolls can be positioned to create a press gap for coating the web, or so as not to create a press gap. When the rolls are not positioned to form a press gap, the web passes over both roll shells while circumventing the applicators which have already dosed the roll shells with a coating mixture. The web passes over both roll shells for purposes of transferring the coating mixture predosed by the applicators. Solely the web pull in conjunction with the wrap angle of the two roll shells serves the final dosing by scraping off an excess quantity from the roll shells.
