  • Patent number: 4944377
Abstract: According to the invention, a safety coupling, the torque transmission of which takes place as a result of the radial tension of a clamping sleeve which is under high pressure, has a release valve. During a rotation of the shaft relative to the hub, caused by overloading, the release valve is opened, so that the torque transmission is interrupted as a result of a reduction of the pressure in the clamping sleeve. After rotation, the tappet of the release valve is drawn into the release valve, so that the safety coupling can be put into operation again as a result of a pressure buildup, without any destruction or wear occurring.

  • Patent number: 4931142
Abstract: A long-nip press roll and a mating roll form an areal press nip with each other. The long-nip press roll has a flexible tubular press shell which is mounted by means of two support disks on a stationary support member which extends through the inside of the press shell. Within a hydraulic pressure chamber provided on the supporting member is a radially displaceable press shoe which can press the press shell against the mating roll. Support member, pressure chamber and mating roll are arranged symmetrically relative to a press plane. The slide surface of the press shoe which contacts the press shell is arranged offset with respect to the press plane in the direction opposite the direction of travel of the press shell. The axis of rotation of the press shell and its two support disks is also arranged offset out of the press plane in the direction opposite the direction of travel of the press shell.

  • Patent number: 4923570
Abstract: A long nip press roll for removing water from a traveling fiber web. A rigid support beam has at least one recess in its periphery for receiving a radially movable hydraulically operated press shoe. A flexible tubular press shell is wrapped around the support beam and the press shoe. The concave outer surface of the press shoe presses the press shell against a backing roll for pressing upon a fiber web against a felt belt passing through the nip. The press shell has a smooth outer surface in contact with the web. At its outlet side from the press nip, the press shoe has a convexly curved guide surface over which the press shell and the paper web travel together and that guide surface is also wrapped for a distance by the felt belt. This separates the web from the felt belt and the web travels around on the press shell. A ledge inside the press shell and/or a removal roll at the outside of the press shell separate the web from the outside of the press shell.

  • Patent number: 4919761
Abstract: A long nip press roll includes a stationary support member and a flexible, tubular, inflatable press shell which is supported to rotate around the support member by axially separated support discs rotatable around the support member. A radially displaceable press shoe is supported on the support member for pressing outward against the press shell against a counter roll in the press plane. To enable the press roll to be used in a press where it is disposed either beneath or above the counter roll, all of the internal lines in the support member, e.g. those for the supply and discharge of pressure oil, lubricant and cooling oil and press shell pressurizing air, include two sets of coupling for coupling them to external lines, a respective set of the couplings being located at each axial end of the press roll. During assembly, one of the sets of couplings at one end is connected to external lines, and the other set of couplings is closed.

  • Patent number: 4915024
Abstract: A press roll of adjustable sag has a roll shell which is rotatable around a stationary yoke that is supported on a pedestal. Each end of the roll shell terminates in a journal that is supported by a self aligning bearing disposed within a bearing housing. The bearing housing and the supported end of the roll shell is displaceable relative to the yoke transversely to the axis of the press roll and in the press plane of the press roll and the mating roll. Hydraulic support pistons on the yoke supply support for the press roll shell against the mating roll. The distances between the bearings of the roll shell and of the mating roll are approximately equal. To exert additional bending forces on the ends of the roll shell, a double acting hydraulic force producing piston is supported in the pedestal and is connected with the guide part in which the self aligning bearings are supported for displacing the guide part, for displacing the bearings, for displacing the end of the roll shell, generally in the press plane.

  • Patent number: 4909903
Abstract: A paper machine includes a double-felt (or single-felt) wet press. Two press elements, for instance two rolls, whose axes lie in a press plane, form a press nip with each other. Two endless felt belts, and between them the paper web from which the water is to be removed, pass through said nip. Beyond the press nip the paper web travels, free of the felt belts, to the next station of the paper machine. Each of the two felt belts travels beyond the press nip over a guide element, which can be a guide roll or a nonrotating deflector, whose position is displaceable parallel to the press plane. The arrangement is operated as follows: The angle between the paper web and the wetter felt is set to a smaller value during the initial licking-up process than during the subsequent continuous operation. On the other hand, the angle between the paper web and the drier felt is set to a larger value during the initial licking-up process than during the subsequent continuous operation.

  • Patent number: 4895549
Abstract: A universal joint for a highly stressed cardan shaft possesses, in order to increase the rigidity and load-bearing capacity of the bearings in the trunnion cross bearing, a tie-rod which extends through a central longitudinal hole through two opposing trunnions. The bearing covers of the two opposing bearing eyes are fixed to the tie-rod under pre-stress and bear from outside against the outer ring of the radial bearing. The bearing covers carry tracks on the inner sides for the axial bearing arranged in the region of the trunnion end face. The transverse forces are thus passed to the respectively opposite joint yoke half, so that no deformation arises to spray the joint yoke. As a result the formation of axial play is prevented, and all bearings are uniformly stressed, as a result of which greater load-bearing capacity and longer service life are obtained.
