  • Patent number: 4638542
Abstract: A punch blade depresses the coupling heads of a length of successive filamentary coupling elements toward a knockout blade while sandwiching stringer tapes between upper and lower grippers. The punch blade is lowered until lower legs of the coupling elements are cut off by cutter blades. The punch blade and the knockout blade are then lifted while gripping the severed coupling elements therebetween to forcibly remove the coupling elements out of engagement with sewing threads on the stringer tapes. The upper grippers have confronting steps for engaging the sewing threads so that the severed coupling elements can be detached reliably and smoothly from the stringer tapes without unduly tensioning the sewing threads and stringer tapes. The punch blade may have a vertical reinforcement member attached to at least one side edge thereof and having a lower tooth projecting downwardly beyond a lower edge for being pressed against the coupling elements.

  • Patent number: 4639604
Abstract: Disclosed is a system for the signal processing of pattern profile information detected by optically or electronically scanning a pattern on an object such as a semiconductor wafer or a mask. The system includes a pattern information detector responsive to the scanning to generate an electric detection signal of a time series corresponding to the pattern along the scanning direction, position detecting means for generating a position signal discriminative for example of the direction of scanning each time the scanning advances a predetermined unit amount, and sampling extract means responsive to the position signals to successively sample the detection signal and obtain digital data of the pattern excluding any overlapping data of the pattern sampled at the same positions whereby even if the scanning involves minute oscillations of the scanning speed, the resulting noise in the detection signal is eliminated and an accurate pattern information signal corresponding to the absolute positions is extracted.

  • Patent number: 4638658
Abstract: A method of detecting an abnormality in a system for detecting the concentration of an ingredient contained in exhaust gases emitted from an internal combustion engine, including a sensor for detecting the same concentration, wherein a correction value for the air-fuel ratio of a mixture being supplied to the engine is set in response to an output signal from the sensor, the correction value thus set being applied in detecting the abnormality. A first predetermined value and a second predetermined value smaller than the first predetermined value are set, which both lie within a first range defined by an upper limit value of the correction value and a lower limit value of same that can be assumed when the engine is in normal operating conditions.

  • Patent number: 4637691
Abstract: A mirror converging-type illumination optical system for converging light rays from a light source into substantially parallel light rays using a concave reflecting mirror having a secondary curved surface comprises a conical refraction member having a convex conical refraction surface at an input or incident side thereof and another convex conical refraction surface at an output side thereof. The refraction member is arranged in a path of the parallel light rays with a vertex of the conical refraction member being substantially aligned with the optical axis of the illumination optical system. The refraction member inverts the inner and outer portions of the incident parallel light rays. • Patent number: 4637233
Abstract: A beam for a dyeing apparatus comprises a pair of concentric inner and outer tubes, each having a multiplicity of peripheral holes therethrough. A net of a heat- and corrosion-resistant material is wound on the outer tube for supporting materials (to be treated) thereon to keep the materials from being marked with traces of the holes in or any projections on the outer tube. The meshes of the net are smaller in size and larger in number per unit area than the outer tube's holes, which are in turn smaller in size and larger in number per unit area than the inner tube's holes, making the liquid flow uniform and hence suitable to penetrate uniformly throughout the materials.

  • Patent number: 4635819
Abstract: A control for loss-in-weight feeders which decreases flow error during refill of the feeder hopper. The weight range (empty to full capacity) of the hopper is divided into weight increments. Samples are taken of the hopper weight during discharge and refill, and each sample is assigned to a weight increment. During discharge, a scale factor related to the density of material in the hopper is computed, assigned to a weight increment and stored in memory; and the hopper feed screw is driven at a speed proportional to the computed scale factor. During refill, the stored scale factors are retrieved from memory and the hopper feed screw is driven at a speed proportional to the stored scale factors; but no additional scale factors are calculated.

  • Patent number: 4635508
Abstract: A control apparatus for controlling the gear engaged by an automatic transmission of a motor vehicle, whereby gear change operations are temporarily inhibited when a signal indicative of a fault condition in a load signal or a speed signal is sensed. The signals representing the speed and load of the vehicle are ordinarily employed directly to determine the gear engaged by the transmission. If a fault condition, such as may be due to a short circuit or open circuit of the corresponding sensor, is detected, to prevent skidding due to a sudden change to an incorrect gear, the gear presently engaged is held for a predetermined period of time. After that predetermined period of time, if the fault condition still exists, the transmission is shifted to the safest gear. Otherwise, the present gear is maintained.

  • Patent number: 4636041
Abstract: The aperture of a zoom lens is varied automatically during zooming by an aperture drive device that includes a pair of drive members rotatable about the optical axis. Each drive member has an arm member that engages a coupling member on a rocking member pivoted about an axis perpendicular to the optical axis. During an aperture closing operation the coupling member and the arm members move relatively along the optical axis. Initially, both drive members rotate together, such that the aperture does not change, but then the drive members rotate relatively to vary the aperture.
