The oil lock mechanism comprises an oil lock piece mounted on an upper end of the cylinder, and an oil lock tube disposed concentrically between the cylinder and the inner tube and having a larger-diameter portion which can be spaced from the oil lock piece when the hydraulic damper is extended and a smaller-diameter portion which can be held in sliding contact with the oil lock piece when the hydraulic damper is compressed.

    Abstract: A one-way damping valve mechanism in a hydraulic damper having a first hydraulic chamber defined in a cylinder, and a piston rod having an inner end on which there is mounted a piston slidably fitted in the cylinder, divides the first hydraulic chamber into a second hydraulic chamber and a third hydraulic chamber. The valve mechansim produces a damping force when the piston is moved in a prescribed direction to move working oil from the second hydraulic chamber into the third hydraulic chamber. The valve mechanism comprises a subvalve for defining a first hydraulic passage to generate a damping force when the piston moves at an extremely low speed in the prescribed direction, and a main valve for defining a second hydraulic passage to generate a damping force when the piston moves in a medium/high speed range in the prescribed direction.

A first spring seat is slidable relative to at least either the upper bracket or the cylinder. A second spring seat is secured to the other of them. The first or second valve comprises a valve body, a mechanism for normally urging the valve body in a closing direction, and an urging force adjusting arrangement for adjusting the urging force of the urging mechanism from the exterior. The damping force generating device is simplified in structure and provides for a reduction in size of the oil damper as well as facilitated adjustment of the damping force.

    Abstract: A vehicle body suspension system comprising a piston-cylinder assembly provided between a vehicle wheel and a vehicle body. The piston, which is disposed within the cylinder connected to the wheel, and the piston rod coupled to the piston, are each formed with an oil channel extending axially therethrough. The end of the piston rod which is remote from the piston is connected to the vehicle body by means of an annular elastic member arranged around such end of the piston rod. An oil chamber having a variable volume is provided, and has part of its peripheral wall formed by part of the elastic member. A first damper arrangement is provided between the oil chamber and the oil channel for action during contraction of the system, and a second damper arrangement is provided in the piston for action during elongation of the system. An auxiliary vehicle body suspension spring is provided between the cylinder and the piston rod.
