  • Patent number: 4832408
Abstract: An upholstery support for a vehicle seat consisting of a first shell with a raised edge and made from a fiber-reinforced plastic and a second shell arranged on the side of the first shell facing the upholstery, which second shell is also made from a fiber-reinforced plastic, is connected with the first shell along the edge of the first shell, covers only portions of the first shell and is spaced from the first shell in predetermined areas. The second shell has a central cut-out and forms, together with the raised edge of the first shell, a hollow box-like frame and in both shells the reinforcing fibers are carbon fibers.

  • Patent number: 4804226
Abstract: The frame of the seat in a motor vehicle has a base for the cushion which carries the weight of the occupant and a back rest which carries the cushion for the back of the occupant. The back rest has two upwardly extending parallel frame members and a connector between the upper ends of the frame members. The upper end of one frame member carries a takeup reel for the safety belt whose latch plate can be inserted into a buckle adjacent the lower end of the other frame member. When the belt is applied and is tensioned, such as in the event of an accident, it applies to the one frame member a force acting diagonally of the back rest and tending to bend the one frame member forwardly and toward the other side of the seat. The cross-sectional outline of the one frame member and the orientation of such cross-sectional outline are selected in such a way that the one frame member offers maximum resistance to deformation by the belt in the direction in which the belt acts thereon in the event of an accident.

  • Patent number: 4786110
Abstract: A hinge joint wherein one of the leaves is secured to a fixed part and the other leaf is secured to the pivotable back rest of a seat in motor vehicle and is pivotable with reference to the fixed leaf about the axis of a pintle which can be rotated by a hand wheel or a motor. The other leaf carries a braking member with a cylindrical or frustoconical internal surface which is engaged by the peripheral surface of a prestressed elastic split ring defining a gap for the projection of a blocking element which is affixed to the pintle and urges the split ring into stronger frictional engagement with the braking member when the back rest is acted upon to pivot the other leaf. A coupling device is secured to the hand wheel or to the motor to disengage the split ring from the braking member when the pintle is rotated by the hand wheel or by the motor. The end portions of the split ring flank the projection of the blocking element and are flanked by two protuberances of the coupling device.

  • Patent number: 4773704
Abstract: Apparatus for adjusting various parts of the seat in a motor vehicle has first and second adjustable units which receive motion from discrete first and second rotary driving elements in the form of gears or clutch sections. The driving elements flank an axially movable disc which has teeth or claws movable into engagement with the teeth or claws of the one or the other driving element in response to depression of a pushbutton which is surrounded by a hand wheel serving to rotate the selected driving element by way of a hollow shaft which non-rotatably carries the disc and surrounds an actuating member which transmits motion from the pushbutton to the disc. A locking device operates between the shaft and a pin which is reciprocable with the disc to releasably hold the disc in torque-transmitting engagement with the selected driving element.

  • Patent number: 4749231
Abstract: In a back rest for a vehicle seat, the upholstery support is provided at least in one upper corner area in its front side with an opening to form a receptacle for a belt retraction device, which receptacle is open toward the front and closed at the rear by a back wall lying behind and spaced from the front side. An upper and a lower wall, which form the top and bottom of the receptacle, are connected with the front wall and/or the back wall and are spaced from each other so as to allow the receptacle to receive the belt retraction device without play. Form-fitting, overlapping restraining elements on the upper wall and the facing upper side of the belt retraction device, as well as on the back wall and the facing back side of the belt retraction device, together with a connecting element that engages the underside of the belt retraction device, secure the retraction device against being moved out of the receptacle.

  • Patent number: 4715656
Abstract: The stationary component of a hinge joint between the lower part and the back of a seat in a motor vehicle is coupled to a pivotable component of the back of the seat by a shaft which carries an eccentric for the inner race of a ball bearing whose outer race is non-rotatably secured to a spur gear forming an integral part of the stationary component and mating with one or more teeth of an internal gear in the pivotable component. The outer race has a frustoconical internal surface engaged by the convex surface of a lever which is pivotally connected to and rotates with the shaft when the latter is turned by an operator to change the inclination of the back of the seat. An elastic pad or one or more springs are used to bias the eccentric radially of the shaft. The shaft is non-rotatably connected with but can move radially of the eccentric.

  • Patent number: 4708392
Abstract: The back of the seat in a motor vehicle is connected to the base of the seat by a shaft which has a cylindrical eccentric of lesser eccentricity and a frustoconical eccentric of more pronounced eccentricity. The base has a first gear with a first internal surface surrounding the cylindrical eccentric and a second internal surface surrounding the second eccentric. One or more teeth of the first gear mate with the teeth of an internal gear on the back. The shaft is journalled in the back and can be rotated by a handle to thereby change the inclination of the back relative to the base. The second surface is movable axially of the shaft and is biased in such a direction by one or more springs to bear against the surface of the frustoconical eccentric. The cylindrical eccentric is effective during the initial stage of angular movement of the shaft for the purpose of changing the inclination of the back.
