  • Publication number: 20230053686
Abstract: A clamping tool holder includes a tool holder body and a clamp for clamping a cutting insert. The clamp causes the cutting insert to press against the bottom and the side walls of an insert-receiving pocket of the tool holder body. The tool holder body has an inclined surface sloping inward in a direction away from the insert-receiving pocket. The clamp has an inclined surface that acts as a ramp with the inclined surface of the tool holder body. When a clamp screw is tightened, a nub of the clamp engages an inside rearward surface of a mounting bore of the insert with face contact and a contact pad engages a top surface of the cutting insert. As a result, the clamp exerts a force downward and rearward force on the insert. In one aspect, the nub has a polygonal cross-sectional shape.

  • Patent number: 11565356
Abstract: A method for producing a replaceable cutting head is described. The replaceable cutting head is manufactured by extruding a blank. During extrusion of the blank, a number of helical coolant channels and a number of helical flutes are simultaneously formed. After extrusion, the flutes have a first angle of twist (D1), and the coolant channels have a second angle of twist (D2). After extrusion, the blank is sintered and then reworked to selectively adjust the first angle of twist (D1) and the pitch of the flutes. The method produces an endless blank that is capable of being parted off to a desired length without any sacrificial allowance, which provides significant material and cost savings as compared to conventional methods.

  • Patent number: 11504784
Abstract: A cutting tool with interconnected arms that increases the stiffness to weight ratio of the cutting tool is described. The principles of the invention can be applied to any cutting tool, such as a reamer, a milling cutter, a slotting cutter, and the like. In one example, a cutting ring includes a cutting head assembly with a leading arm, a trailing arm, and a cutting head supported by the leading arm and the trailing arm. The trailing arm interconnects with the leading arm of an adjacent cutting head assembly, and the leading arm interconnects with a trailing arm of another adjacent cutting head assembly.
