Abstract: An unlicensed wireless service is adapted to generate the interface protocols of a licensed wireless service to provide transparent transition of communication sessions between a licensed wireless service and an unlicensed wireless service. In one embodiment, a mobile station includes level 1, level 2, and level 3 protocols for licensed wireless service and an unlicensed wireless service. An indoor base station and indoor network controller provide protocol conversion for the unlicensed wireless service into a standard base station controller interface of the licensed wireless service.

Abstract: An unlicensed wireless communication base station includes a radio frequency circuit to transmit an unlicensed wireless communication base station identification signal to a subscriber device and to receive licensed wireless communication system security information from the subscriber device responding to the unlicensed wireless communication base station identification signal. A control circuit is connected to the radio frequency circuit. Network interface circuitry is connected to the control circuit. The control circuit conveys the licensed wireless communication system security information to the network interface circuitry for delivery to a network. The network interface circuitry receives from the network an authentication command that is delivered to the control circuit. The control circuit and the radio frequency circuit coordinate unlicensed wireless communication between the subscriber device and the unlicensed wireless communication base station in response to the authentication command.
Abstract: A server for integrating an unlicensed wireless communication system and a licensed wireless communication system includes a network interface card, a licensed wireless network interface card, and a processor connected to the network interface card and the licensed wireless network interface card. A memory is connected to the processor. The memory stores instructions to identify when a subscriber device is entering a service region of a selected unlicensed wireless communication base station. Additional instructions coordinate the routing of a current communication session on a licensed wireless communication system to the selected unlicensed wireless communication base station.
