  • Patent number: 5141638
Abstract: A filtrating apparatus is disclosed in which a filter unit and a washing unit for effecting a fluid washing are unified into one system. A plurality of filter elements of main filters provided in the filter unit are made of sintered material containing metallic fiber. A nominal filtration rating of the filter elements is greater than 0.3 .mu.m but smaller than 2 .mu.m. Accordingly, it is possible to ensure the smooth filtration of beer funguses without any necessity of interchanging filter elements. It is therefore possible to reduce a running cost and filtration cost and to save a space for the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5043276
Abstract: DNA strand having an ability in biotechnological production of .alpha.-acetolactate decarboxylase is disclosed. The DNA strand is characterized in that it has a nucleotide sequence coding for a polypeptide whose amino acid sequence is substantially from A to B of FIG. 1 and which has .alpha.-acetolactate decarboxcylase activity. Also disclosed is a yeast which belongs a Saccharomyces cerevisiae and which has been transformed by the DNA strand. The yeast is characterized by the fact that its .alpha.-acetolactate producing ability is reduced, and will thus produce an alcoholic liquor such as beer which contains no or little diacetyls which have come from their precursor, namely .alpha.-acetolactate.

  • Patent number: 5039630
Abstract: Disclosed is a granular multi-cellular glass and a method for producing the same. An ordinary multi-cellular glass grain having relatively low moisture content ratio was prepared as starting material. The glass grain is then dipped in water or alkali solution for eluting or dealkali treatment. By the dipping, soluble alkali components are mainly eluted from a surface layer and cell walls of the glass grain. Thus produced multi-cellular glass grain provides increased moisture content ratio because of the formation of micropores at the layer and cell wall portions. Disclosed also are controls of physical properties of the multi-cellular glass grain for controlling specific gravity, pore volume and pore diameter thereof. By these controls, resultant glass grain is provided with desirable physical properties available for a microcarrier for immobilizing microbe therein.
