  • Patent number: 6049194
Abstract: A generating apparatus for feeding a current to a battery using a magneto as a power supply is disclosed which is capable of varying a magnetic field acting on generating coils to widely control characteristics of the magneto. A rectifying/switch circuit is arranged between the magneto and a load, which incorporates the battery. The rectifying/switch circuit includes diodes and switch elements. The diodes are 2n (n.gtoreq.2) in number and are bridge-connected to each other. The switch elements are connected to the diodes by reverse parallel connection. A switch control unit applies an AC control voltage of a predetermined phase from the battery through the rectifying/switch circuit to the generating coils, so that a phase of the AC control voltage may be varied to widely vary characteristics of the magneto.

  • Patent number: 5941216
Abstract: A method for controlling drive of an injector for an internal combustion engine which is capable of reducing a minimum injection quantity available for the control to increase a dynamic range of the injector is disclosed. A voltage across a solenoid coil is stepwise increased when a drive pulse is generated, so that a current fed to the solenoid coil is increased to a level higher than that of the drive current at the time when an injection valve starts port opening operation. Then, the drive current is gradually reduced toward a hold value required to hold the injection valve at a port opening position at a time-based variation ratio less than that of the drive current at the time when the voltage across the solenoid coil is stepwise decreased from a peak value, so that the voltage is stepwise reduced at the time when the drive pulse is extinguished, resulting in the drive current being extinguished.

  • Patent number: 5886418
Abstract: A marine power device capable of preventing a failure in actuation of constantly-driven loads required to be constantly actuated for continuing operation of an internal combustion engine, when various loads are actuated using both a magneto driven by the engine and a battery driven by the magneto as a power supply in a ship in which an outboard motor is used as a propelling equipment. The device includes a switch which functions to separate occasionally-driven loads increased in power consumption and the battery from the magneto when the battery is reduced in output voltage thereof to a level of failing to actuate the constantly-driven loads due to connection of the occasionally-driven loads to the battery or overdischarge of the battery. The switch is arranged at a position which does not affect flowing of a drive current fed from the magneto to the constantly-driven loads.

  • Patent number: 5808451
Abstract: A boosting switch circuit is constituted by a plurality of MOSFETs of which drains are respectively connected to a plurality of output terminals of an AC magneto and sources are connected to each other or together. The MOSFETs each have a parasitic diode in a drain-source circuit thereof. The parasitic diodes and a plurality of rectification diodes are subjected to bridge connection, to thereby provide a rectifying circuit for rectifying an AC output voltage of the AC magneto. The MOSFETs are fed at a gate thereof with a drive signal of a rectangular waveform, resulting in being concurrently subjected to on-off operation. This permits the output voltage of the AC magneto to be boosted and then rectified through the rectifying circuit. The output voltage thus boosted and rectified is then fed to a load.

  • Patent number: 5584280
Abstract: Ignition operation is carried out by charging a capacitor (C1) of an ignition circuit (3) by means of an output of a positive half cycle of an exciter coil (104) and discharging charges in the capacitor (C1) through a thyristor (Th1). A transistor (Tr4) is turned on when a level of a detected value (Vb) of an output voltage of a negative half cycle of the exciter coil coincides with a level of a reference voltage (Vr), resulting in a reference signal being generated. Measuring of an ignition timing operated by a microcomputer (4) is started at a generation position of the reference signal, so that the ignition timing is measured, the thyristor (Th1) is fed with an ignition signal, leading to ignition operation. A generation position of the reference signal is rendered constant by varying a reference voltage (Vr) depending on an output voltage of the exciter coil and an output frequency thereof.

  • Patent number: 5558065
Abstract: A method for driving an injector for feeding an internal combustion engine with fuel which is capable of improving starting characteristics of the engine. A power circuit is provided which functions to charge a power capacitor utilizing an output of a generating coil, so that feeding of an injection command signal permits a driving current to flow through a driving coil of an injector. A period of time required to permit charges in an amount necessary to drive the injector to be accumulated in the power capacitor is defined to be an injector drive prohibition period, during which generation of the injection command signal is prohibited, to thereby prohibit flowing of the driving current. The injector drive prohibition period is elapsed, so that a required amount of charges are accumulated in the power capacitor, followed by generation of the injection command signal, to thereby permit the driving current to flow the driving coil.

  • Patent number: 5253626
Abstract: A rotational speed control system for an internal combustion engine capable of preventing a dead time or dead section from occurring in controlling of a rotational speed of the engine. An integrating circuit is controlled by means of an output of a comparator for comparing a rotational speed detection signal with a target rotational speed setting signal, to thereby obtain an integral voltage which falls and rises when the rotational speed detection signal is above and below the target rotational speed setting signal, respectively. Comparison of the integral voltage with a sawtooth signal voltage leads to a pulse signal subjected to pulse width modulation. The pulse signal is fed to an actuator driving circuit to carry out on-off controlling of a drive current for the actuator. Connection of voltage limiting circuits to the integrating circuit causes a variation of the integral voltage to be limited within a range of amplitude of the integral voltage, to thereby eliminate the dead time or dead section.
