Abstract: A device (100) for diffusing light comprising a light guide (101), light input means (102), and light output means (103). The light input (102) and light output (103) means are connected to the light guide (101), and the device (100) is arranged to allow light of at least two separate frequencies from a light source (108, 109, 110) to enter the light guide (101) through the light input means (102), propagate through said light guide (101) and exit at the light output means (103). The light guide (101) is circumferential, such that light is allowed to propagate for a distance greater than the external dimensions of said light guide (101) before reaching the output means (103), and hence, producing a mix of the light from said at least two frequencies. A display apparatus in which the invention is implemented is also disclosed.

Abstract: The invention provides a metal halide lamp 1 wherein the concentration of the filling components fulfill a condition according to claim 1. Such a lamp is found to be a good alternative to existing high-pressure discharge lamps (Ceramic Discharge Metal halide lamps) based on rare earth fillings or other metal halide fillings. In addition, such a lamp can be dimmed without a substantial shift of the color point. Such a lamp can also have photometric properties that are substantially independent of the arrangement of the lamp and/or the external temperature.

  • Publication number: 20100063496
Abstract: In planning an ablation procedure, a planned target volume (PTV) (70, 102) is imported, which is typically selected by a doctor but may be computer identified. An initial set of candidate ablation regions (112) that covers the PTV (40, 70, 102) is computed. Ablation probe trajectories that avoid critical structures (136) are computed to provide surgical 5 options for safe entry points and angles. An optimization component (14) determines a minimum number of ablation regions, which fully covers the PTV (40, 70, 102), and generates locations and orientations for each ablation (108). A tracking system can be given these ablation targets, enabling the surgeon to control the probe more precisely to the desired location.

  • Publication number: 20100063839
Abstract: The invention relates to a molecular diagnostic decision support system (MD-DSS) for providing patient related information (PRI). A patient information database (EMJ), a data input section (DAT) with molecular diagnostic input data (MDx) about the patient, a clinical guideline database (CL), a knowledge database (KB) are part of the system. A middleware section allows input data (MDx) to be processed into patient related information (PRI) by a first (1DSM) and a second (2DSM) decision support mechanism using the patient information database (EMJ), the clinical guideline database (CL) and the knowledge database (KB). The first (1DSM) and the second (2DSM) decision support mechanism are operably coupled through the middleware (MW) so as to interact (10, 11) during the processing of the input data (MDx). Due to this coupling of the two decision support mechanisms patient data are more efficiently combined with input data (MDx), and a more comprehensive approach with respect to the patient is obtained.

  • Patent number: 7675084
Abstract: A photonic crystal structure is formed in an n-type region of a III-nitride semiconductor structure including an active region sandwiched between an n-type region and a p-type region. A reflector is formed on a surface of the p-type region opposite the active region. In some embodiments, the growth substrate on which the n-type region, active region, and p-type region are grown is removed, in order to facilitate forming the photonic crystal in an n-type region of the device, and to facilitate forming the reflector on a surface of the p-type region underlying the photonic crystal. The photonic crystal and reflector form a resonant cavity, which may allow control of light emitted by the active region.

  • Patent number: 7676820
Abstract: An apparatus for playing video content includes a play means (100) for playing video content. The video content includes overlapping scenes (621, 622, 641, 642, 661, 662, 681, 682), with each scene having an associated scene signature. A scene hopping selector (44) is operative while the play means (100) is playing video content for selecting a hop. The selecting defines a current scene (102) which the play means (100) is playing at a time of the selection, and a current scene signature corresponding to the current scene (102). A similar scene hopping processor (104) operates responsive to a defining of a current scene (102). The similar scene hopping processor (104) compares the current scene signature with other scene signatures of the video content to identify a similar scene (106). The similar scene hopping processor (104) causes the play means (100) to transfer the playing to the similar scene (106).

  • Patent number: 7675485
Abstract: An active matrix electroluminescent display device comprises an array of display pixels. In each pixel, a first switch connects power from a power supply line to the display element and a second switch routes current from a current-measurement supply line to the display element. The gate voltage applied to a drive transistor is controlled by a feedback system, such that control voltage is controlled in closed loop manner to achieve the desired current. The control voltage can then be used for subsequent addressing of the pixel.

  • Patent number: 7675823
Abstract: In a particular type of high-density optical recording systems, a solid immersion lens (SIL) is used in the objective system to focus a radiation beam onto an information layer of an optical record carrier. The distance between the exit surface of the SIL and the entrance surface of the record carrier is typically 25 nm to allow evanescent coupling of the radiation from the SIL to the optical record carrier for a system using a blue laser as radiation source. Such a system is also called a near-field system, deriving its name from the near field formed by the evanescent wave at the exit face of the SIL. A suitable gap signal, representing the width of the gap, is used to control the width of the gap during operation of the system. Tolerances in the optical elements and opto-mechanical components of the optical system of the optical recording system can lead to an offset in the position of the focus point of the objective system.
