  • Publication number: 20040127645
Abstract: Disclosed is a copolymer prepared from a conjugated diene monomer and a vinyl aromatic monomer. The radial copolymer is prepared by coupling the terminal of a leaving polymer using a mixed coupling agent comprising the mixture of a multi-reactive polysiloxane and a tin halide compound, the leaving polymer being prepared by copolymerizing a conjugated diene monomer and a vinyl aromatic monomer in the presence of an organo lithium catalyst and a hydrocarbon solvent. The use of the radial copolymer improves the affinity to silica or carbon black used as a filler, and remarkably enhances processibility in the manufacture of tires as well as the properties (e.g., higher wet traction, lower rolling resistance, and higher tread wear) necessary for tires relative to the conventional products.

  • Publication number: 20040102589
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for preparing a high 1,4-cis polybutadiene having a controlled cold flow and, more particularly, to a novel method for preparing a high 1,4-cis polybutadiene having a controlled cold flow that involves initiating polymerization of a 1,3-butadiene in the presence of a non-polar solvent using, as a polymerization catalyst, a complex prepared by mixing a neodymium compound with or without a conjugated diene compound, a halogenated organoaluminum compound or a halogenated organic compound, and an organoaluminum compound irrespective of the addition order of the catalyst; and adding an organoborane compound as a cold flow controller of 1,4-cis polybutadiene after a predetermined time of the polymerization. Accordingly, a high 1,4-cis polybutadiene having an efficiently controlled cold flow can be prepared without causing a significant increase in the Mooney viscosity (molecular weight), an odor (bad smell), and a reduction in 1,4-cis content and polymerization yield.

  • Patent number: 6687631
Abstract: A method of measuring impedance is based on carrier function Laplace transform. The measurement includes detecting a response signal from a device under test, to which signal an excitation such as a pulse, interrupt or constant load is applied. Resulting data is fitted to a carrier function, selected so as to be capable of providing a good fit and for which an analytical Laplace transform is known, in order to obtain parameters of such function providing best fit. Obtained parameters are further substituted into the analytical expression of Laplace transform of carrier function which is used to calculate a frequency dependent impedance function in the Laplace domain. The resulting impedance function is used for calculating the impedance spectrum in a frequency domain and for calculating the measurement error of the frequency domain impedance spectrum using the standard deviations of the parameters, obtained during fitting of time-domain data.

  • Patent number: 6674287
Abstract: A method for grouping unit cells of a similar impedance spectrum uses pattern matching technology to optimize the performance of a battery pack made of primary or secondary batteries as the unit cells connected in series, in parallel or in combination of them. To make an optimal battery pack with unit cells of a different internal characteristic, the method includes measuring the impedance spectrum of the individual unit cell in a wide frequency region at the same temperature and in the same state of charge (SOC), digitizing the difference in impedance spectrum among the unit cells into a relative value using the pattern matching technology, and selecting unit cells of a most similar impedance spectrum (i.e., a smallest relative difference in impedance spectrum) to make a battery pack.

  • Patent number: 6646185
Abstract: The present invention provides an efficient genetic transformation system for the zoysiagrass plant (Zoysia japonica Steud.). Also provided are optimized media compositions and culture conditions for the zoysiagrass transformation. The reliable transformation system for zoysiagrass was developed by optimizing several factors that significantly affect calli growth and plant regeneration. Callus type and co-cultivation period absolutely influenced the transformation efficiency. Concentrations of 2,4-D, CaCl2 and acetosyringone were also critical factors. The best result was achieved when type 3 calli were co-cultivated on a 2,4-D-free co-cultivation medium for 6 days. Removal of calcium and addition of 50 mg/liter acetosyringone during co-cultivation drastically enhanced the efficiency. The invention also provides a bialaphos-resistant zoysiagrass plant, which can be used in golf courses and athletic fields to save the maintenance cost.
