  • Publication number: 20040237909
Abstract: A method and apparatus to conduct 02/CO2 combustion or oxygen-enriched combustion. The boiler exhaust gas passes through a Gas Primer Sector (GPS) combined with the boiler to effect heat transfer to the combustion gas in indirect counter-flow heat exchange. Sharply reduced gas flows result from using largely moisture-free CO2 as diluent for O2 in the combustion gas which allows long residence time at low velocity for maximum heat transfer from the exhaust gas to the combustion gas. Most particulate drops out and most moisture is condensed from the cooled mostly CO2 exhaust gas. The larger portion is blended with oxygen for the combustion gas and reheated and returned to the boiler through the integrated GPS; the smaller portion is cleaned and separated, the CO2 released or recovered. The complete exhaust gas-combustion gas cycle may be 30 to 90 seconds and preferably about 60 seconds.

  • Patent number: 6033575
Abstract: The method and apparatus mixes two immiscible liquids A and O to form a dispersion and then pre-separates the dispersion into two fractions (A+o) and (O+a) in a spout. These two fractions are fed separately into a decanter with two separate compartments which continue to maintain the two fractions as separate. Within the two separate compartments the two fractions are further separated into two flows, A, O, a, and o, such that four flows exit the decanter.

  • Patent number: 6027607
Abstract: A process for extracting salt from brine contained in at least one open evaporation basin. At least part of the brine is heated in a heating unit located outside the evaporation basis and returned to the evaporation basin. The heating unit is driven by waste heat from a recooling industrial plant. According to this process, climatic values and the degree of recooling are measured and evaluated in a control unit. At least part of the heated brine and some non-heated brine are sprayed by a spraying device of the evaporation basin. The amount of sprayed brine is regulated by the control unit depending on the measured data.

  • Patent number: 5535892
Abstract: Coal spiral having a relatively short first stage helix for separating a slurry into clean coal, refuse and middlings splits, and a relatively short second stage helix for recleaning middlings split from the first stage. The first stage has only 3.25 turns, the second stage has only two turns, and a combination separator box and feed box delivers the middlings directly from the first stage to the second. The two helices are aligned coaxially, and are of opposite rotational sense to provide counter-rotation of the middlings in the two stages.

  • Patent number: 5389255
Abstract: A module having a plurality of chambers which are seated relatively close to each other in a flow-through reservoir having a feed inlet and an oppositely located retentate outlet. The chambers include pervaporation chambers which have a permeation-selective layer and heating chambers. The pervaporation chambers and the heating chambers are alternatingly disposed and supported in cutouts within comb-shaped supports. The flow-through reservoir is box-shaped and has removable, tightly secured longitudinal end walls, one of which supports all pervaporation chambers, the other of which supports all heating chambers. The module is highly efficient due to flow and temperature distribution conditions which remain extremely exact.

  • Patent number: 5279736
Abstract: Sieve bend for separating particles of differing size in a liquid slurry. The bend structure defines a passage having an inlet end and a discharge end, with a throat of decreasing cross sectional area at the discharge end of the passage, and a sieve screen for receiving slurry flowing from the discharge end of the passage. The throat is formed in part by a movable member, with means for adjusting the position of the movable member to vary the cross sectional area of the throat and means for temporarily moving the movable member to an open position to clear debris from the throat. The sieve screen is mounted in a housing associated with the bend structure, and the housing is vibrated in a resonant manner to dislodge material from the screen. A repulping box is positioned midway along the screen for supplying additional liquid to the slurry as it passes over the screen.

  • Patent number: 5180493
Abstract: Rotating hydrocyclone having an elongated cylinder with a side wall defining a separation chamber. A stationary inlet introduces a mixture of immiscible fluids into the chamber at high velocity in a tangential direction so that the mixture rotates about the axis of the chamber and produces a centrifugal force which tends to separate the fluids in accordance with their specific gravities. The cylinder is rotated about its axis to increase the rotation of the fluids and thereby increase the centrifugal force, with impeller vanes extending radially in an inward direction from the side wall of the cylinder near the inlet enhancing the rotation of the fluids with the cylinder. A first outlet is aligned with the axis of the cylinder for removing a fluid of lesser specific gravity from the chamber, and a second outlet is aligned tangentially with the cylinder for removing a fluid of greater specific gravity from the chamber.

  • Patent number: 4756481
Abstract: The mass to be sprayed by the spray gun is stored in an airtight closed storage container. A cushion of pressurized air is generated above the level of the paint mass present in the storage container. This air cushion is fed by means of a manually operated piston pump projecting into the storage container. Accordingly, the mass to be sprayed and fed via the feed line extending to the spray gun is pressurized. Conclusively the feed line can be designed with a longer dimension, the mass to be sprayed can be more viscous and the distance in height between storage container and spray gun can be much larger.

  • Patent number: 4246576
Abstract: An apparatus and method for monitoring the operation of centrifugal cyclones. Sensing means is disposed in the underflow spray discharge of a cyclone and is connected to electronic sensing circuitry adapted to produce a signal or alarm response when the cyclone ceases to operate in a normal manner. In one embodiment the apparatus and method employs a plurality of cyclones connected to receive feed material from a common manifolding means. Abnormal functioning of one cyclone of the group is immediately indicated by visual or audible alarm means and thereafter its sensing means may be disabled to permit the sensing circuitry to continue to be effective for the remaining cyclones. Delay means is incorporated in the circuitry to prevent a response when the abnormal condition is of short duration. One form of sensing means employs a probe which extends into the normal underflow discharge spray. Another form employs a paddle and switch assembly, with the paddle extending into the normal discharge spray.

  • Patent number: 4208270
Abstract: A hydrocyclone assembly suitable for use with high temperature feeds (e.g., hot petroleum liquids). The hydrocyclone body is made of ceramic material with one end being flanged and cooperating with an inlet head. These parts are clamped against a mounting plate by means including one or more spring members of the distorted washer type (e.g., Belleville washer). The mounting minimizes breakage of the hydrocyclone body when used with high temperature fluid feed. Some embodiments employ a plurality of hydrocyclones disposed within a common pressure vessel.

  • Patent number: 4203834
Abstract: Hydrocyclone apparatus having means for controlling the gravity of the discharging underflow which consists of a device formed of resilient material that is mounted directly below the apex opening of the hydrocyclone. The device provides a plurality of sectors which when relaxed extend inwardly toward the hydrocyclone axis, with the side edges of each sector in juxtaposition with adjacent sectors. When the hydrocyclone is operating the downward thrust of underflow material directly overlying the device causes the sectors to be deflected downwardly to so control the underflow as to maintain its density substantially constant irrespective of changes in the density of the slurry supplied to the inlet. Preferably the construction of the device is such that when the sectors are relaxed they are arched upwardly.
