  • Patent number: 6571691
Abstract: A wire tieing system for wrapping and tieing a bale of material with wire comprises a wire guide for guiding a wire around a bale of material and a tieing head configured for receiving portions of a wire in the guide and securing the portions together to thereby tie the wire and therefore tie a bale of material. The tieing head is pivotable with respect to the wire guide and is operable for being pivoted between an operating position proximate the guide and a maintenance position away form the guide. A head pivot assembly maintains the tieing head in the maintenance position. The head pivot assembly comprises a support block and a locating pin which are operably movable to engage a portion of the tieing head when the tieing head is pivoted to the maintenance position to prevent the head from pivoting back to the operating position.

  • Patent number: 6561365
Abstract: The present invention provides a shelving system comprising a gondola display having two rows of rear-loading shelves arranged back-to back. In one row of shelves, the shelves are hingedly attached to the gondola display, thereby allowing the shelves to be rotated away from the gondola. This exposes both the rear of the rotated shelves and the rear of the shelves located directly behind the rotated shelves, thereby allowing for easy rear-loading of product into both row of shelves at the same time. The present invention can also be used to allow for easy rear-loading of conventional gondola displays having a fixed base or bases. In such instances, a row of rotating shelf units, each having a retractable support wheel, is attached to one side of the conventional gondola. When these units are in their display position and when first rotated away from the gondola, the wheel is in a retracted position so that it is in contact with and can be rolled along the top surface of the fixed base.

  • Patent number: 6554366
Abstract: A retaining plate is provided for use in the assembly of a chair to couple a J-back to a tilt mechanism. The J-back is provided with a number of mounting holes. Similarly, the tilt mechanism is provided with a number mounting holes that can be aligned with the mounting holes in the J-back. The retaining plate has a number of mounting holes disposed therethrough that are located to align with the mounting holes of the J-back and the tilt mechanism. The plate also includes a nut-retaining wall that is formed around the mounting holes and that is dimensioned to hold a threaded nut. The plate has a mechanism that is used to couple the plate to the tilt mechanism. In use, nuts may be placed within and held by the nut-retaining wall, and the plate may be coupled to the tilt mechanism so that the J-back may be coupled to the tilt mechanism by threading bolts into the nuts, the nuts being held in place by the nut-retaining walls.

  • Patent number: 6553900
Abstract: The invention is a baling machine with an articulated guide track disposed in three operationally distinct sections. One section of the articulated guide track, representing approximately one-half of the track perimeter, is movable between a first position and a second position. In the first position, the large section completes a guide track perimeter. In the second position, the large section pivots away from tying heads of the baling machine to permit ejection of the bale from the machine.

  • Publication number: 20030074944
Abstract: An apparatus for making mattress and upholstery spring coils . The apparatus has a wire feeding device and a wire guide adapted to support first and second wires of different diameters. The wire guide is movable to first and second positions to align the first and second wires, respectively, with the wire feeding device. A spring coiling machine is positioned adjacent the wire feeding device. When the wire guide is in the first position, the spring coiling machine receives the first wire of one diameter from the wire feeding device; and the spring coiling machine bends the first wire into a spring coil of a desired diameter and pitch and having a first stiffness. When the wire guide is in the second position, the spring coiling machine receives the second wire of another diameter from the wire feeding device; and the spring coiling machine bends the second wire into a spring coil of the desired diameter and pitch but having a second stiffness.

  • Publication number: 20030074863
Abstract: A method for roll packing foam mattress cores includes the step of providing a radially collapsible mandrel for winding up the foam material. Compression of the foam material is accomplished during the roll operation via a compression roller associated with the mandrel. After a sufficient amount of foam material has been rolled, the mandrel is collapsed to facilitate easy removal of the roll. In one embodiment of the invention, packing material is applied to a surface of the foam as it is rolled to prevent adhesion of successive layers in the roll.

  • Publication number: 20030075232
Abstract: An apparatus for assembling coil springs together into a matrix of coil springs. The apparatus has workholders with respective grippers that receive and hold portions of end turns of respective coil springs, and a loader supporting the workholders for moving the workholders through a motion that transfers the respective coil springs from a conveyor to the apparatus. The coil assembling apparatus has, for each coil, a die set having a fixed die and a movable die. The movable die is connected to a drive via linkage. The drive is operable to move the movable die through a motion that maintains a planar die face of the movable die substantially parallel to a planar die face of the stationary die. The coil assembling apparatus is also operable to automatically assemble two rows of coil springs into a row of coaxial coil springs.

  • Patent number: 6536127
Abstract: A J-back calibration device is adapted to vary respective positions of the seat and the back on a chair to which it is removedly attached. A chair measurement device is mounted to the seat of the chair and is adapted to take measurements of the chair given a set position of the J-back calibration device. A design of experiments software is provided with test condition information including the variable positions of the J-back calibration device and measurements from the chair measurement device. The software generates a table of configuration settings for the J-back calibration device at which shirt-pull and bridging or other such variable sought to be optimized can be measured and provided to the software. Through graphical and other analytical tools, optimal configuration settings for the variable positions of the J-back calibration device are determined. The J-back of a chair is adapted to these calibrated settings.

  • Publication number: 20030043246
Abstract: Ink jet printing is provided onto rigid panels such as foamboard and contoured material using ultraviolet (UV) light curable ink, which is first at least partially cured with UV light and then may be subjected to heating. Printhead-to-panel spacing is controllable to maintain a predetermined constant distance from the printing element to the surface of the panel where the ink is to be applied. Each of a plurality of printheads may be independently moveable to control the spacing of the printheads from the substrate surface. Sensors on the printhead carriage measure the shape, or vertical position of, the printhead's distance from the printhead carriage to the surface of the substrate being printed. The position or focal length of the UV light curing head may be varied to maintain focus of the UV light on the ink on a contoured surface of the substrate.

  • Patent number: 6523921
Abstract: Ink jet printing is provided onto rigid panels such as office partitions, which have surfaces that are contoured, textured or made of another three-dimensional material, or are otherwise differently spaced from the plane of the panel such that the distance between a printing element and the point on the surface on which ink is to be deposited is not always the same or exactly predictable. Preferably, three dimensional covered panels are printed using ink jet printing, preferably using ultraviolet (UV) light curable ink, which is first, at least partially cured with UV light and then subjected to heating to more completely cure and dry the ink to remove, by evaporation, further curing or otherwise, the uncured monomers. The panel surface may be contoured by quilting or molding processes. Print head to panel spacing is adjustable to maintain a predetermined constant distance from the printing element to the surface of the panel where the ink is to be applied.
