Patent number: 4775360Abstract: The present invention is directed to improved methods and apparatus for the collection of blood, which are particularly useful for autotransfusion purposes. The apparatus includes a conventional blood transfer bag which is in turn placed in fluid communication with an air-blood separator to form a collection system. This system is particularly adaptable for use in the surgical setting in that it can operate at high vacuum while minimizing hemolysis. This is accomplished by early separation of air from the blood as the blood is collected. The air-blood separator and the interior of the blood bag are placed in communication with a vacuum source. As a result, there is a pressure equalizing feature inherent within the device. This allows the blood to continue to flow through the device into the blood bag without extending or opening the blood bag. As a result, there is minimal air-blood interface as the blood enters the blood bag.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 1987Date of Patent: October 4, 1988Assignee: Lantech, Inc.Inventors: Perry L. Lane, William D. Wallace

Patent number: 4593518Abstract: The invention comprises a novel apparatus having a plurality of flexible members which extend downstream horizontally along a wrapping conveying assembly for making unitary packages which are wrapped on all sides. The apparatus is particularly adapted for wrapping of loads with lengths and circumferences which vary substantially from one load to the next. Film is wrapped around the load, the flexible members and the conveying assembly with the load being carried off by another conveyor. The flexible members extend from the load being wrapped to the previous load which has been wrapped so that the stretched film is wrapped around the flexible member between loads causing the flexible members to be pulled inward forming a configuration resembling an hour glass. As the loads are being continuous bundled, the wrapped bundles can be transported downstream to a cutting and sealing area where the wrap is severed and optionally sealed forming individually enclosed wrapped packages.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 1983Date of Patent: June 10, 1986Assignee: Lantech, Inc.Inventor: William G. Patent number: 4497159Abstract: An apparatus for applying stretchable plastic film to loads for containment of the loads using two frictionally connected rollers which are held together and driven by the film web at different speeds to elongate the plastic film beyond its yield point. After the elongated film has been stretched, it is wrapped around a rotating load. The rollers are cammed apart during the beginning of the wrap so that relatively untensioned film is wrapped around the load at the beginning of the wrap. The cam force is then released and the rollers are pulled together in frictional engagement by the film web being pulled off of the film roll to stretch the film web.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 1982Date of Patent: February 5, 1985Assignee: Lantech, Inc.Inventor: Patrick R.
