  • Patent number: 5713105
Abstract: A vertically adjustable hinge which permits easy, small and precise vertical adjustments. The hinge includes a body, a first leaf and a second leaf. It should be noted that the hinge may be provided only as a body and a first leaf for retro-fitting on to an existing second leaf. The body includes a leaf cavity, an adjustment mechanism cavity and, where necessary, a window. The window extends from a face side of the body and communicates with the adjustment mechanism cavity. The adjustment mechanism cavity communicates with the leaf cavity. The leaf cavity is sized and dimensioned to receive a planer portion of the first leaf therein with additional space for vertical adjustment of the first leaf. An adjustment mechanism is provided in the form of an elongated jack screw having a head which engages a slot formed in the first leaf and a threaded portion which engages a fixed thread.

  • Patent number: 4339845
Abstract: There is disclosed a spring hinge comprised of a pair of hinge leaves each having at least one tubular hinge knuckle, the knuckles being in axial alignment to define a bore, a torsion spring member extending axially through the knuckle bore and having its opposite ends affixed to a pair of capstan members for rotation in unison therewith. The first capstan member is non-rotatably mounted within one of the hinge knuckles, while the second capstan member is rotatably mounted within the other hinge knuckle. The second capstan member includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced sockets selectively movable into registry with a through aperture in the associated hinge knuckle, such that a retaining pin member may be inserted therein. The pin member holds the capstan in a desired radial position to impart a desired degree of torsional force or tension to the spring member. The pin member has first and second portions of different diameters thereby defining a shoulder portion.

  • Patent number: 4216986
Abstract: There is disclosed a releasable door stop assembly for a bidirectionally swinging door including a retractable stop member which normally permits opening of the door in one direction, thus acting as a stop against opening of said door in the opposite direction. The stop member is free floating and is spring biased, such that it can be retracted manually to permit opening of the door in the opposite direction. The biasing of the free floating stop member is effected by use of a leaf spring which localizes the applied force limiting same generally to the forward portions of the stop member. As such, upon manual depression, the rearward portion of the free floating stop member moves inwardly easily until a segment thereof bottoms, with the forward portion of said stop member then being rocked forward to retract the stop member entirely.

  • Patent number: 4193245
Abstract: There is disclosed a door frame construction, preferably of metal, which comprises cross channel members assembled perpendicularly with a pair of parallel upright channel members to form a rectangular frame. The respective channel members are held in assembled squared relation by a novel type of joint construction, which joint includes a pair of elongate slots formed in ones of the channel members which slots cooperating receive first detent members formed on the other of the channel members. The first detent members prevent disassembly of the joined channel member in a generally lateral direction. In addition, said slot also cooperates with second detent members received therein, which preclude relative pivotal movement between the assembled channel members and thereby serve to maintain the channel members in squared relation.

  • Patent number: 4168409
Abstract: A security hinge construction includes a pair of hinge leaves each having at least one knuckle. An electric switch is fixedly mounted within one of the knuckles and a switch operating means is disposed within the other knuckle. The switch or electrical component is sealed within its associated knuckle and an O-ring seal is disposed between the two knuckles to effectively seal the switch or electrical component from the intrusion of moisture or the like which negates the monitoring effect of the assembly if such sealing means were not present.

  • Patent number: 4141123
Abstract: A plug is offered to make relatively easy and simple the assembly and pre-torquing of a spring-loaded hinge for doors and the like. These hinges comprise a pair of hinge leaves, each leaf defining at least one hollow hinge knuckle aligned with a hinge knuckle defined on the opposite leaf. Through the knuckles, a bi-ended torsion spring mechanism is inserted. A first plug is affixed within one hinge knuckle and engages one end of the torsion spring mechanism. At the opposite knuckle and second spring end, the novel second plug is affixed. This second plug includes a spring-engaging finger and a capstan body adapted to fit snugly within the knuckle. Atop the capstan body is a removable head which can be grasped by a wrench or like torsioning device. After this second plug is inserted in the hinge, the spring end is grasped and torqued by rotating the plug.

  • Patent number: 4116514
Abstract: A security hinge is disclosed which includes a pair of leaves, having respectively, at least a pair of spaced end knuckles and at least one immediate knuckle disposed therebetween. Each knuckle includes a central axial bore, the bores being aligned co-axially. A pair of pins are provided, each pin having a head portion disposed in an end knuckle bore for rotation in unison therewith and a body portion thereof disposed within an intermediate knuckle bore to maintain the leaves in assembly and permit relative rotation therebetween the pin and intermediate knuckle. Stop means, are provided interiorly of the bores, against which the heads of the respective pins abut, thus preventing the pins from being driven completely through the end knuckle bores in the axially inward direction. Since the pins are recessed within the bores, and one prevents the other from being forced out of the bores in the axially outward direction, unauthorized disassembly of the hinge is precluded.

  • Patent number: 4109346
Abstract: There is disclosed a pivot and support mounting arrangement for a pivotal door arrangement which permits the door to be adjusted quite easily with respect to the door frame. The arrangement includes a pintle assembly carried by the door and a support arrangement mounted proximate to a lower corner of the door frame, and receiving a projecting portion of the pintle assembly. The support arrangement includes a bracket having an elongate channel-like opening in which is mounted a pintle support block, and selective engageable means to prevent relative movement. A recess is formed in the pintle support block to receive the pintle end portion, and spring means is associated with the support block tending to bias it upwardly. In the assembled condition the weight of the door will overcome the biasing force provided by the spring and the engageable means will be inter-engaged to preclude movement of the support block relative to the bracket.
