  • Patent number: 5982051
Abstract: A two-way switching circuit for connecting a supply power to a load comprises two electronic switches connected to each other. Each of the two electronic switches includes two electronic switch units connected to each other. Each of the two electronic switches has a control circuit including a common actuator selectively connected to both of the electronic switch units thereof for alternately turning on the respective electronic switch units. A first of the electronic switch unit of each of the two electronic switches is connected to each other and a second of the electronic switch units of each of the electronic switches is connected to each other, whereby switching circuit is thus adapted to connect a power supply to a load when both of the first electronic switch units or both of the second electronic switches are on.

  • Patent number: 5838555
Abstract: A two-wire power supply switch connected in series with a load between two poles of an alternating current mains electrical power supply conventionally includes a main triac between two terminals of the switch which is turned on by the conduction of an optotriac with a time-delay relative to the zero crossing of the voltage between the switch terminals determined by the breakdown voltage of a series of Zener diodes. The switch includes a power supply unit with a rectifier bridge connected to one terminal directly and connected to the other terminal via a capacitor. An auxiliary triac shunting the capacitor is turned on by the optotriac on each zero crossing of the voltage between the switch terminals. This optimizes conditions when the switch is open and when the switch is closed separately.

  • Patent number: 5731559
Abstract: A switch mechanism has a conductive mobile contact carrier with two lateral branches pivotally engaged with a central hub. The lateral branches of the conductive mobile contact carrier are continuous with its middle branch, each being joined to the latter by a large radius elbow, and the conductive mobile contact carrier bears on the output contacts through its lateral branches. The output contacts are near the central hub so that the lateral branches of the conductive mobile contact carrier are subjected to a local transverse self-cleaning movement when it comes into contact with the output contact. Applications include single-throw and double-throw switches.

  • Patent number: 5585993
Abstract: A solid-state switch is connected in series with a load between the poles of an electrical power supply. It includes an isolated gate bipolar transistor with an emitter connected to the internal ground and connected to the load and a collector connected to one pole of the supply and driving an input of a subtractor the other input of which is connected to receive a set point voltage. The output of the subtractor drives a feedback system connected to the gate of the transistor. The voltage at the gate is then representative of the current in the switch and is applied to interrupter means which sends a turn-off signal if the gate voltage exceeds a (triggering) threshold value. The turn-off signal sends to a switching circuit a turn-off voltage which produces a turn-off bias and disables the feedback circuit.

  • Patent number: 5283516
Abstract: A low voltage dimmer is shown with the dimming function being on a primary side of a low voltage transformer. Live voltage feeds through a triac to the primary side of the transformer with the gate for the triac being controlled by a microprocessor. To prevent burnout of the transformer if the secondary load side is open, zero crossing of the incoming signal is determined by the microprocessor. If the time constant between the zero crossing of the live voltage and the charging of a capacitor with resistance being provided by the primary side of the transformer exceeds w predetermined time period, the microprocessor will be inhibited from generating a pulse to fire the triac. When the primary side of the transformer has been opened, the load on the secondary side can be re-established, i.e. light bulb replaced. Power for the microprocessor is from the charging of a capacitor used to provide the triggering signal to the microprocessor. Also the microprocessor may be triggered from remote locations.

  • Patent number: 5179324
Abstract: A dimmer with reduced filtering losses is connected into a conductor supplying power to a load from a mains power supply. It conventionally comprises a triac in series with a filter inductor between an input terminal and an output terminal and a circuit generating triggering signals for the triac. To reduce the losses in the inductor, which conventionally is in series with the load at all times but is active only during moments following triggering of the triac, to reduce the amplitude of the transient currents, a second triac triggered by a circuit with a time-delay greater than the time constant defined by the filter capacitor and inductor diverts the load current. An auxiliary low-value inductor attenuates transients due to triggering of the second triac.
