    Abstract: A cutter includes a cutting edge, a rear, a cutting surface, a foot and a longitudinal axis, as well as a transverse axis, wherein a stop surface is provided on the rear pointing towards the cutting edge. The stop surface extends in the direction of the transverse axis and is provided at an angle (alpha) of between 92° and 112° in relation to the longitudinal axis. In addition, the cutter is suitable for use in a cutter head having a carrier body, in which at least one radially outwardly open recess is provided for receiving a cutter and a clamping jaw which can be actuated by a clamping screw, and by means of which the cutter can be clamped in a fixed position in the recess. The recess has a stop with a stop surface that is directed radially inwards, and the cutter can be introduced into the recess against the force of at least one elastic element. The cutter can be applied, in a radially outward direction, by its stop surface to the stop surface that is directed radially inwards, by an elastic element.
