Abstract: A method for performing cell broadcasting and a communication system using the same are provided. The method includes steps of receiving in a mobile station at least one data unit of a short message service cell broadcasting (SMSCB) message broadcast from at least one cell of a communication system; and reading the SMSCB message based on the schedule message, wherein the schedule message is comprised of a plurality of fields for informing the mobile station of a location of the SMSCB message, a length of a schedule period, and whether a new SMSCB message has been broadcast.

Abstract: Terminal and method for transporting a still picture uses a moving picture terminal after extraction of a frame unit of still pictures, for example, from a moving picture. The extracted still picture frames can be encoded in a fixed quantizing value and stored before transmission, or the stored frame unit still pictures can be encoded in a fixed quantizing value using an overflow control technique or circuit. Further, the extracted still picture frame unit can be repeatedly sent using a varied quantizing value before transmission. Thus, the terminal and method for transporting a still picture permits transmission/reception of the still picture at a higher resolution than a moving picture regardless of time and place to enhance use of the moving picture terminal.

Abstract: Disclosed are a forward multiple scrambling code generating method and apparatus in a communication system. Each base station uses primary scrambling codes and an associated one of secondary scrambling code sets, each consisting of a plurality of secondary scrambling codes. When an n-th one of the primary scrambling codes is to be generated, an initial value of the scrambling code generator is set with a binary value of “n,” so that a desired primary scrambling code is generated using the initial value. When an n-th one of the secondary scrambling codes in an m-th one of the secondary scrambling code sets is to be generated, an initial value of the scrambling code generator is set with a value obtained by shifting the n-th primary scrambling code by m times, thereby generating a desired secondary scrambling code.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an individual answering method for an automatic answering telephone set which can selectively ring the telephone when a call is received by distinguishing absent users from users who are at home. A plurality of individual answering mode setting buttons are provided and enable each user to individually set an automatic answering function. Also, the user can push an automatic answering mode setting button or individual answering mode setting button during a conversation to allow the caller to leave a voice message for another user.

Abstract: A belt clip device is provided for a mobile communication terminal unit. The belt clip device includes a terminal unit holder for receiving and holding the terminal unit, a clamp provided on one side of the terminal unit holder and adapted to resiliently clip a belt worn by a user, thereby allowing the belt clip device to be mounted to the belt, and a connector for rotatably connecting the clamp to the terminal unit holder. The clamp includes a base portion, a panel portion hingably coupled at one end thereof to the base portion and spaced apart from the base portion to define a gap for receiving the belt therebetween, a spring adapted to urge the base portion and the panel portion in such a fashion that the gap is resiliently maintained, and a stopper provided at the other end of the panel portion and adapted to prevent the clamp from being separated from the belt.

Abstract: A rate matching method is provided for a mobile communication system that performs an adjustment to a code rate based on an optimal level by puncturing or repetition to respective bit streams of transport channels. The rate matching method is preferably applicable to uplink and downlink rate matching for channel coding including turbo coding, convolutional coding and the like. The rate matching method for uplink can include executing coding for bits of a transport channel, and branching off the bits into a plurality of sequences, constructing a first interleaving pattern for the plurality of sequences, constructing a virtual interleaving pattern for at least one sequence based on a mapping rule with a corresponding first interleaving pattern and calculating different bit shifting values in each column of each virtual interleaving pattern. Then, a bit position to be punctured is determined in each constructed virtual interleaving pattern using the calculated bit shifting values.

Abstract: A method for matching a rate in a mobile communication system causes puncturing or repetition in a fixed pattern, in which puncturing or repetition is applied to each bitstream on transport channels supporting different services in a next generation mobile communication system of the W-CDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) system.

Abstract: The frame words of the preferred embodiment are especially suitable for frame synchronization and/or channel estimation. By adding the autocorrelation and cross-correlation functions of frame words, double maximum values equal in magnitude and opposite polarity at zero and middle shifts are obtained. This property can be used to slot- by-slot, double-check frame synchronization timing, single frame synchronization and/or channel estimation and allows reduction of the synchronization search time. Further, the present invention allows a simpler construction of a correlator circuit for a receiver.

Abstract: A method for controlling power of a mobile station by a base station in a multilayered communication system is disclosed. In the present invention, a base station serving a picocell does not lower a transmission signal power of a mobile station within a soft handoff region between a macrocell and a picocell. Thus, the mobile station can transmit signals at a sufficient level of transmission power to successfully execute a soft handoff.

A first traffic channel may be established after a first call from a calling party mobile station to the data network interworking unit. A second traffic channel may be established after a second call from the called party mobile station to the data network interworking unit is established when a data response is transmitted from the called party mobile station and the mobile data path connection module informs the public network data path connection control module of the normal state of the first data path. A call may be established through the second data path between the mobile switching center and the data network interworking unit.

Abstract: A backup method for user data in a mobile terminal is disclosed, in which user data stored in a previous mobile terminal can be used in a new mobile terminal when exchanging a mobile terminal with a new one. The present invention, the method of increasing a switch capacity in a switch network system in which three or more switch stages including a plurality of switching elements are connected in serial by using a predetermined logical circuit, the method comprising the steps of: adding switch stage including a plurality of switching elements to correspond to the each switch stage; grouping switching elements of a first switch stage and last switch stage in the switch stage and the added switch stage by a predetermined unit, respectively; and connecting the grouped switching elements of the first stage with corresponding switching elements of an intermediate switch stage which is placed between the first stage and last stage, respectively, and connecting the grouped switching elements of the last switch stage with the corresponding switching elements of the intermediate switch stage, respectively.

Abstract: A video data resending apparatus and method is disclosed. The present invention is capable of performing a selective resending process with respect to a local bit error of a previously sent video data packet, using a CONTRAXPAND™ buffer. The present invention has the effect of overcoming a time delay and overcoming sending suspension due to the resending of the video data. Also, the present invention can accurately block a distortion propagation to the adjacent video due to the local bit error.
