Patent number: 5668890Abstract: A method and apparatus for analysis of an image original to be reproduced by evaluating image values (R, G, B) acquired by the point-by-point and line-by-line, trichromatic scanning. The image values of a first color space allocated to the input apparatus are transformed into image values of a second color space that is independent of the first color space. The analysis of the image original for calculating setting values for image processing is implemented on the basis of the transformed image values of the second color space. The master analysis on the basis of the image values is implemented in view of image scope, image gradation and/or color cast.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 1996Date of Patent: September 16, 1997Assignee: Linotype-Hell AGInventor: Kurt-Helfried Winkelman

Patent number: 5661586Abstract: In an optical positioning system for at least two picture elements, a wavelength-dispersive, first light-deflecting element is used which deflects light beams in a first deflection direction according to their wavelength. In order to enhance the positioning speed, the optical system comprises a narrow-band light source with a controllable wavelength for every picture element. The first light-deflecting element is arranged in the beam path of a second light-deflecting element with which an additional, essentially wavelength-independent deflection can be implemented. The range of deflection of the first light-deflecting element is thereby noticeably smaller than that of the second light-deflecting element. The ray beams of the said light sources charge or impinge upon the wavelength-dispersive element in common.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 1995Date of Patent: August 26, 1997Assignee: Linotype-Hell AGInventor: Thomas Harig

Patent number: 5612795Abstract: Original CMYK printing colors of an original image are corrected, and then the corrected printing colors are converted by color computer to RGB video signals for display on a color video display. The desired corrections are defined in terms of HSL (hue, saturation, luminance) changes. The original CMY printing colors are transformed to the corrected or new CMY printing colors by use of the HSL changes without a color space translation. The HSL changes are directly applied to the original CMY printing colors to arrive at the new CMY printing colors. The transformation comprises using a gray line representing an absence of color and changing luminance within the original CMYK printing color space and executing the HSL changes with respect to the gray line. The HSL changes are clamped within the color space so that no new CMYK printing colors result which are unprintable outside the color space.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 1994Date of Patent: March 18, 1997Assignee: Linotype-Hell AGInventor: Wilhelm Dichter

Patent number: 5583687Abstract: A device for deflection of a light beam formed of a light-permeable deflection prism extending in a direction of a rotational axis. The prism has a light entry face, a reflection face proceeding obliquely thereto and a light exit face, and is further formed of a carrier prism joined to the deflection prism at the reflection face. The carrier prism supplements the deflection prism to essentially form a cuboid unit that is seated rotatably around an optical axis that resides perpendicularly relative to the light entry face of the deflection prism. For producing a unit designed rotationally symmetrical relative to the optical axis at least in regions, the optically unused edges and corners of the cuboid unit are rounded. Spherical caps are attached to at least two of the unused outside surfaces of the unit, these spherical caps supplementing the unit to form a spherical outside contour at least in regions.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 1995Date of Patent: December 10, 1996Assignee: Linotype Hell AGInventor: Thomas Zelenka

Patent number: 5581372Abstract: The object of the invention is a progress for generating and storing digitized density thresholds for defining the grid of a halftone image. The density thresholds of a section of a grid are stored in a data store as stored words depending on a multiple spot function. In the section, several spots with a number of stored words form a multiple spot and are periodically arranged beside and above one another. A sorted sequence is found for the stored words of the section in accordance with the spot function. Density thresholds are allocated to the stored words depending on the position in the sorted sequence. The actual number of stored words is found individually for each spot in the section. The sorted sequence is generated according to the current spot function. Before position-dependent thresholds are allocated the stored words, a center of concentration and final point correction is performed for the spot concerned.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 1994Date of Patent: December 3, 1996Assignee: Linotype-Hell AGInventor: Ludo Kerz

Patent number: 5572607Abstract: A method and circuit arrangement for electronic retouching of color images is provided. The color signals of at least one color component acquired by pixel-by-pixel and line-by-line, trichromatic scanning of an original are digitized and stored as color values. The pixels of the color values to be retouched in the color image are marked by shifting a correction field that contains at least one dot element over the image region to be retouched, using the marking device of a coordinate acquisition unit. Before the retouch, a correction intensity distribution that achieves the desired retouch effect is declared for the correction field of the marking device. Correction intensity values allocated pixel-by-pixel are identified for the color values of the marked pixels of the color image and the color values to be retouched are modified by the correction intensity values under visual control.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 1994Date of Patent: November 5, 1996Assignee: Linotype-Hell AGInventor: Rolf Behrends

Patent number: 5559903Abstract: In a method for producing geometric masks, a color image is displayed on a monitor. Color samples are taken from the image with a coordinate input unit and are deposited in a color sample memory. Color correction values that modify colors identified by the color samples can be input. A color computer serves the purpose of fast calculation of the color correction. For generating geometric masks, the color computer is loaded with an extreme value at the locations that are identified by the color samples. For that purpose, a table in the color computer is loaded with the extreme value at the corresponding location. The color image data are then applied to the color computer and the output data of the color computer are compared to a threshold. When the result is positive, a location in the mask memory is set. After all image pixels have been compared in this way to the thresholds, the mask memory contains a geometric mask at all locations that belong to the color samples.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 1994Date of Patent: September 24, 1996Assignee: Linotype Hell AGInventor: Uwe-Jens Krabbenhoeft

Patent number: 5489921Abstract: A method for selective color correction of a color image that is deposited in a store and is displayed on a monitor. Color samples of the colors that are to be corrected are taken from the image with a coordinate input means. The color samples are deposited in a color sample memory and form a cloud in a CIELAB color space. This cloud usually has gaps and singular dots. In order to avoid discontinuities, the cloud is filtered and the gaps and singular dots are thus removed. The arrangement of the color samples in the color space can be displayed in a dialogue window in that color correction values are also input. A color computer uses the color samples and the color correction values for the selective color correction of the image. The image corrected in this way can be stored in the store and can be used for the production of color separations.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 1994Date of Patent: February 6, 1996Assignee: Linotype-Hell AGInventors: Peter Dorff, Joern Kowalewski, Sigrid A. Patent number: 5481380Abstract: The invention is directed to a method and to an apparatus for the calibration of color values in color conversion in apparatus and systems for image processing. Measured color values of an apparatus-dependent input color space are acquired by scanning a suitable test original with a plurality of color fields in an image input apparatus. The measured color values are transformed into color values of an apparatus-independent communication color space in an input color converter on the basis of an analytically approximately calculated conversion table. The approximate calculation of the conversion table occurs taking the pre-distortion of the measured color values and the spectral properties of the respective input apparatus into consideration. The transformed color values are compared to the colorimetrically defined color values of the test originals that are measured, for example, with a spectral photometer.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 1994Date of Patent: January 2, 1996Assignee: Linotype-Hell AGInventor: Gunter Bestmann

Patent number: 5473734Abstract: A method and apparatus for exposure calibration of a recording device for pixel-by-pixel and line-by-line exposure of rastered areas on a recording material. A correction function (transfer function) is calculated, and picture signal values that are to be recorded, and which represent nominal gray scale values, are corrected according to the correction function so that the real gray scale values that are recorded correspond to the nominal gray scale values. For calculating the transfer function, check rasters having line patterns are exposed pixel-by-pixel and line-by-line on the recording material and the surface coverage values of the developed check rasters are measured. Relative increases in the optical density of the check raster are calculated from the measured surface coverage values.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 1993Date of Patent: December 5, 1995Assignee: Linotype-Hell AGInventors: David Maskell, Hans-Henning Thiessen
