  • Patent number: 11796673
Abstract: A system for determining a travel path for an autonomous vehicle (“AV”) to travel to a target while avoiding objects (i.e., obstacles) without the use of an imaging system is provided. An object sense and avoid (“OSA”) system detects objects in an object field that is adjacent to the AV and dynamically generates, as the AV travels, a travel path to the target to avoid the objects. The OSA system repeatedly uses sensors to collect sensor data of any objects in the object field. An object detection system then detects the objects and determines their locations based on triangulating ranges to an object as indicated by different sensors. The path planner system then plans a next travel direction for the AV to avoid the detected objects while seeking to minimize the distance traveled. The OSA system then instructs the AV to travel in the travel direction.

  • Patent number: 11794406
Abstract: A method of forming a three-dimensional structure of liquid crystal (LC) elastomers includes contacting a resin layer of LC oligomers with a layer of photoalignment material, and exposing a portion of photoalignment material to light for aligning the portion of photoalignment material in a first orientation. The LC oligomers adjacent the illuminated portion of photoalignment material align to the first orientation of the illuminated portion. The portion of aligned LC oligomers of the resin layer are cured. Operations for forming additional layers include creating a relative movement of the resin layer away from the photoalignment material, contacting another resin layer with the photoalignment material, and exposing another portion of photoalignment material to light for aligning the photoalignment material in a different orientation.

  • Patent number: 11787727
Abstract: The fabrication of sleeveless canes utilizes a preform with an array of glass canes in the preform. At least one tube-sleeve encircles the array of glass canes and is secured to the array of glass canes. The array of glass canes is moved into a furnace wherein the array of glass canes is heated. The furnace is maintained at a furnace temperature within the range of 2000° C. to 1700° C. and the array of glass canes is drawn from the furnace. The drawing of the array of glass canes both scales down the glass canes and elongates the glass canes. Maintaining the furnace at a furnace temperature within the range of 2000° C. to 1700° C. assures that the array of glass canes and the glass canes maintain their original shape.

  • Patent number: 11783847
Abstract: Various embodiments of a system and associated method for audio source separation based on generative priors trained on individual sources. Through the use of projected gradient descent optimization, the present approach simultaneously searches in the source-specific latent spaces to effectively recover the constituent sources. Though the generative priors can be defined in the time domain directly, it was found that using spectral domain loss functions leads to good-quality source estimates.

  • Patent number: 11783952
Abstract: Application of axial seed magnetic fields in the range 20-100 T that compress to greater than 10,000 T (100 MG) under typical NIF implosion conditions may significantly relax the conditions required for ignition and propagating burn in NIF ignition targets that are degraded by hydrodynamic instabilities. Such magnetic fields can: (a) permit the recovery of ignition, or at least significant alpha particle heating, in submarginal NIF targets that would otherwise fail because of adverse hydrodynamic instability growth, (b) permit the attainment of ignition in conventional cryogenic layered solid-DT targets redesigned to operate under reduced drive conditions, (c) permit the attainment of volumetric ignition in simpler, room-temperature single-shell DT gas capsules, and (d) ameliorate adverse hohlraum plasma conditions during laser drive and capsule compression. In general, an applied magnetic field should always improve the ignition condition for any NIF ignition target design.

  • Patent number: 11754866
Abstract: To enable several orders of magnitude increases in average power and energy handling capability of Faraday rotators, the technology utilizes high speed gas cooling to efficiently remove thermal loading from the Faraday optic faces while minimizing the thermal wavefront and thermal birefringence by creating a longitudinal thermal gradient. A recirculating gas cooling manifold accelerates the gas over the surface of the slab to create a turbulent flow condition which maximizes the surface cooling rate. The technology further provides a spatially uniform thermal profile on the Faraday slabs.
