In one embodiment, a method of manufacturing a smart device includes providing a structure, placing a sensor over an outer surface of the structure, and placing conductive traces over the outer surface of the structure. The conductive traces electrically connect the sensor to electronics.
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for reducing engine stall incidence during canister purging. A fuel vapor canister is purged at a higher purge ramp rate to an engine with one or more cylinders selectively deactivated. In response to an indication of potential or partial engine stall, the deactivated cylinders are reactivated and the canister purge ramp rate is lowered.
Abstract: The present disclosure provides an intelligent lighting control system. A first light control module of a plurality of light control modules determines a time of day. Each light control module in the plurality of light control modules configured to cause a transmission of a quantity of electrical energy to a lighting circuit of a light fixture electrically connected to the respective lighting control module. Occupancy at the first light control module is detected after a specific time of day. The flow of electricity from one or more light control modules in the plurality of light control modules is changed to change the flow of electricity to the respective lighting circuits connected to the one or more light control modules to turn off the respective light fixture based on the occupancy detection the time of day.

In one example, a system comprises one or more sensors arranged in an oil flow path for detecting if a particle is in an oil flow. A parity check matrix H includes an information matrix part corresponding to the information bits of the LDPC code and a parity matrix part corresponding to the parity bits. The information matrix part of the parity check matrix H is represented by a parity check matrix initial value table that indicates a position of an element 1 of the information matrix part for each 360 columns. The present technology is applicable to a case in which LDPC encoding and LDPC decoding are performed.
Abstract: A content creation application with an ink augmenting feature can communicate at least one recognized term from ink strokes input to a canvas interface of the content creation application to an ink augmenting service. The content creation application can receive at least one keyword from the ink augmenting service, where each keyword indicates a corresponding recognized term having available content identified by the ink augmenting service. The content creation application then transforms a grouping of the ink strokes corresponding to the recognized term indicated by each keyword to an actionable item in the canvas interface. Selection of the actionable item invokes the command to provide the available content.

Abstract: A node of a network receives account access information (AAI) for an account that a user has with a system. The node causes a first record to be added to a distributed ledger that is used for managing access to the account, wherein the first record includes the AAI or an encrypted storage identifier that identifies a storage location for the AAI. The node determines a likelihood that the account is being accessed by the user based on the AAI and/or historical AAI for one or more accounts, that include the account, that are used to access the system. The node causes a second record that includes a value representing the likelihood to be added to the distributed ledger. The node causes one or more other nodes of the network to be alerted that the first record and the second record have been added to the distributed ledger.
Abstract: The present technology is generally directed to horizontal heat recovery and non-heat recovery coke ovens having monolith components. In some embodiments, an HHR coke oven includes a monolith component that spans the width of the oven between opposing oven sidewalls. The monolith expands upon heating and contracts upon cooling as a single structure. In further embodiments, the monolith component comprises a thermally-volume-stable material. The monolith component may be a crown, a wall, a floor, a sole flue or combination of some or all of the oven components to create a monolith structure. In further embodiments, the component is formed as several monolith segments spanning between supports such as oven sidewalls. The monolith component and thermally-volume-stable features can be used in combination or alone. These designs can allow the oven to be turned down below traditionally feasible temperatures while maintaining the structural integrity of the oven.
Abstract: A multi-layered composite material suitable for use in orthopedics includes a foam core layer bonded between two layers of thermoformable polymer material. The thermoformable material is heat formable within a target temperature range allowing for rapid heating and application to a patient such as in the form of a splint. While within the target temperature range, the composite material includes a dwell time sufficiently long to enable proper fitment and adjustment, yet not overly long requiring extended periods of holding the composite material in place. The composite material is very light yet extremely rigid and easily conformable to patients.
Abstract: A water heating apparatus includes: a water container configured to heat water via a convection process by receiving the water through an inlet and passing water through an outlet; and one positive temperature coefficient (PTC) heating element or a plurality of PTC heating elements arranged within the water container and configured to be immersed during the convection process. The plurality of PTC heating elements have a gap between each PTC heating element. Further, the water heating apparatus includes at least one ultrasonic transducer attached to the water container and configured to project ultrasound onto and around the PTC heating element or the plurality PTC heating elements within the water container and to descale the PTC heating element or the plurality of PTC heating elements.

Abstract: Example methods and systems for determining 3D scene geometry by projecting patterns of light onto a scene are provided. In an example method, a first projector may project a first random texture pattern having a first wavelength and a second projector may project a second random texture pattern having a second wavelength. A computing device may receive sensor data that is indicative of an environment as perceived from a first viewpoint of a first optical sensor and a second viewpoint of a second optical sensor. Based on the received sensor data, the computing device may determine corresponding features between sensor data associated with the first viewpoint and sensor data associated with the second viewpoint. And based on the determined corresponding features, the computing device may determine an output including a virtual representation of the environment that includes depth measurements indicative of distances to at least one object.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for operating a driveline of a hybrid vehicle powertrain, where the driveline includes an electric machine downstream of a dual clutch transmission, which is downstream of an engine. In one example, a method comprises communicating from a transmission, a torque to accelerate transmission components from a first speed to a second speed with first and second clutches of a dual transmission open, the communicating performed while an electric machine coupled to the dual clutch transmission at a location downstream of the dual clutch transmission is providing torque to propel a vehicle. In this way, wheel speed may remain substantially constant while the transmission is shifted and the engine is stopped.
Abstract: A system and method for determining transmission delay in a communications system. In some embodiments, satellite positioning information having System Frame Number (SFN) information may be received for a mobile device and observed time difference of arrival (OTDOA) measurements may be received for a mobile device. A location of the mobile device may be determined as a function of the received satellite positioning information. A Global Positioning System (GPS) time estimate may be determined as a function of the determined location of the mobile device. Transmission delay between a node serving the mobile device and an antenna serving the mobile device may be determined as a function of the received OTDOA measurements and determined GPS time estimate.
