In some variations the average visible light transmittance in a first quadrant of the lenses is less than 30 percent and is greater than 70 percent in a second quadrant. In some variations the lenses comprise a selectively disposed blue-light reflective coating. In some variations the spectacle eyewear device is configured for use on urban city streets and freeways. In some variations the spectacle eyewear device is configured for use on country roads and two-lane highways.
