Patent number: 12246599Abstract: A hydraulic regenerative braking system is provided for using hydraulic fluid to capture energy from a vehicle during a braking event. The system captures kinetic energy from a shaft of the vehicle and stores the kinetic energy as hydraulic potential energy. That is, the system captures rotational energy as hydraulic potential energy in an accumulator. The hydraulic regenerative braking system also discharges the hydraulic potential energy as kinetic energy. During braking, kinetic energy is transferred from the vehicle shaft to a gearbox, and from the gearbox to a hydraulic pump. The hydraulic pump uses the kinetic energy to pump hydraulic fluid to an accumulator, increasing the hydraulic potential energy stored in the accumulator. During driving, the hydraulic fluid is released from the accumulator to the hydraulic pump, generating kinetic energy that is transferred to the vehicle shaft via the gearbox.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 2022Date of Patent: March 11, 2025Assignee: HIT THE BRAKES, LLCInventor: Robert James Sikorski

Patent number: 12247829Abstract: A method is disclosed for selecting an optimal value for an adjustable parameter of a structured light metrology (SLM) system, for scanning an object. The SLM system performs test scans of the object to acquire a plurality of sets of measurements of the object, wherein a different value is used for the parameter for each test scan. For each test scan, a value of a quality metric is calculated, based on the set of measurements of the object associated with the test scan and simulation data representing a simulated scan of the object by the SLM system. A test scan is then identified that has a quality metric value that satisfies a specified optimization criterion; and a value of the adjustable parameter that was used for the identified test scan is selected as the optimal value of the adjustable parameter, for scanning the object.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 2023Date of Patent: March 11, 2025Assignee: LAWRENCE LIVERMORE NATIONAL SECURITY, LLCInventors: Brian Giera, Adam Jaycox, Brian Au, Alex Caviness, Alexander Blum, Nishant Ojal

Patent number: 12246483Abstract: Expandable substrates, which are referred to as blanks, are created by compressing thermobonded nonwovens after heating the binder material above its melting temperature, and then cooling the compressed nonwovens so that the binder material hardens and holds the fibers of the nonwoven together in a compressed configuration with stored kinetic energy. A mold for the component to be manufactured can be partially filled with a number of boards (or blanks) in a stacked, vertically, adjacent or even random orientation. Upon application of heat to the boards or blanks or parts in the mold, the binder material is melted so as to allow the nonwoven material to expand in one or more directions, and thereby fill all or part of the mold. Upon cooling, the binder material again hardens, and the molded component is retrieved from the mold.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 2024Date of Patent: March 11, 2025Assignee: Piana Nonwovens LLCInventors: Andrea Piana, Andy Hollis, Mehran Jafari, Helias Andriessen, Sang-hoon Lim, Eric McCann
