Abstract: Embodiments disclosed herein include devices, methods, and systems for direct, selective, and sensitive detection of single-stranded and double-stranded target DNA sequences from various sources using a Cas12a protein. When activated by binding a target DNA sequence, the Cas12a cleaves a tether releasing a reporter molecule that may then be detected. In some embodiments, the systems, methods, and devices may include a filter or membrane that may help to separate the tethered and untethered reporter molecules. These devices, systems, and techniques allow a user to rapidly process samples that may contain the target DNA, without needing to amplify the target sequences. These devices and methods may be used to assay a wide variety of samples and target DNA sources, for the presence or absence of target DNA sequences. Compositions and kits, useful in practicing these methods, for example detecting a target DNA in a biological sample, are also described.

Abstract: Systems, methods and computer-readable media are provided for fluid flow measurement in a controlled agricultural environment. A digital flow sensor comprises a flow sensor element including a first digital thermometer for providing a first output and a heating element thermally coupled to the first digital thermometer. The flow sensor may also include a second digital thermometer for providing a second output, and logic for providing a flow measurement based at least in part upon the first and second outputs. A flow sensor network may include multiple digital flow sensors, where data lines of the flow sensors are all coupled to the same network bus for communicating data.
Abstract: Systems and methods for streaming and playing back video having a variety of resolutions, frame rates, and/or sample aspect ratios, where the video streams are encoded at one of a number of maximum bit rate levels, in accordance with embodiments of the invention are disclosed. One embodiment includes a processor, and storage containing data relating combinations of resolution and frame rates to maximum bitrates, where a plurality of resolution and frame rates that are related to the same maximum bitrate form a maximum bitrate level. In addition, an encoding application configures the processor to encode a video stream as a plurality of video streams having different resolutions and frame rates, where the target maximum bitrate used during the encoding is selected based upon the maximum bitrate levels of the resolution and frame rate combinations indicated within the data relating combinations of resolution and frame rates to maximum bitrates.
Abstract: A topical mixture that produces nitric oxide and a method for using the topical mixture to increase the vasodilation of a bloodstream via transdermal absorption of the nitric oxide. The nitric oxide can then affect subcutaneous tissues. The systemic vasodilation of a mammal may be increased via a topical application of an appropriate nitric oxide producing substance.

Abstract: An example tail assembly includes a bodily insertion device that extends along a longitudinal axis from a base to a tip. A shackle is secured to the base and includes a pair of spaced apart arms. The example tail assembly also includes a tail having an eyelet, and a rod inserted into respective openings in the spaced apart arms. The rod is inserted through the eyelet between the respective openings, thereby securing the tail to the bodily insertion device. A method of securing a tail to a bodily insertion device is also disclosed.
