Abstract: A lock mechanism which can be placed on a shaft, such as a bar or pole, in either a first direction or second direction, is secured to the shaft using two sets of balls which project out of apertures in an inner cylinder to frictionally engage the shaft. The balls are selectively retractable from their projecting position to allow the inner cylinder to slide on and/or be removed from the shaft. Biasing members, such as wavy springs, bias the two sides of the lock mechanism towards one another. In the locked configuration, the balls are forced by inclined surfaces within the two sides to project outwardly from the inner hollow cylinder. The inclined surfaces are aligned with two rows of apertures in the inner hollow cylinder, and they are inclined in opposite directions. Thus, either way the lock mechanism is installed or placed on the shaft, the balls will project out of the apertures in the inner hollow cylinder and will securely engage the shaft.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a system receives a captured image perceiving an environment of an ADV from an image capturing device of the ADV, where the captured image identifies an obstacle in motion near the ADV. The system generates a feasible area surrounding the moving obstacle based on a projection of the moving obstacle. If the ADV is within the feasible area, the system determines an upper bound velocity limit for the ADV. The system generates a trajectory having a trajectory velocity less than the upper bound velocity limit to control the ADV autonomously according to the trajectory such that if the ADV is within the feasible area the ADV is to decelerate.

Abstract: A data storage system includes a logical space having logical block addresses (LBAs) divided into non-overlapping LBA ranges, and a physical space having pairs of physical bands. The system also includes a map in which first successive alternate LBAs of each different one of the non-overlapping LBA ranges are mapped to successive adjacent physical blocks of a first physical band of each different pair of the pairs of physical bands, and second successive alternate LBAs of each different one of the non-overlapping LBA ranges are mapped to successive adjacent physical blocks of a second physical band of each different pair of the pairs of physical bands. A controller employs the map to concurrently read data from a first physical block of the first physical band of one pair of physical bands and from a first physical block of the second physical band of the same pair of physical bands.
Abstract: Helper neural network can play a role in augmenting authentication services that are based on neural network architectures. For example, helper networks are configured to operate as a gateway on identification information used to identify users, enroll users, and/or construct authentication models (e.g., embedding and/or prediction networks). Assuming, that both good and bad identification information samples are taken as part of identification information capture, the helper networks operate to filter out bad identification information prior to training, which prevents, for example, identification information that is valid but poorly captured from impacting identification, training, and/or prediction using various neural networks. Additionally, helper networks can also identify and prevent presentation attacks or submission of spoofed identification information as part of processing and/or validation.
Abstract: A system detects multiple instances of an object in a digital image by receiving a two-dimensional (2D) image that includes a plurality of instances of an object in an environment. For example, the system may receive the 2D image from a camera or other sensing modality of an autonomous vehicle (AV). The system uses a first object detection network to generate a plurality of predicted object instances in the image. The system then receives a data set that comprises depth information corresponding to the plurality of instances of the object in the environment. The data set may be received, for example, from a stereo camera of an AV, and the depth information may be in the form of a disparity map. The system may use the depth information to identify an individual instance from the plurality of predicted object instances in the image.

Abstract: A cable provider could offer a promotional feature, such as live pause of video, above and beyond a tier of service to which the customer subscribes, limiting the feature to being activated only upon occurrence of one or more events. In a network video delivery context, a set-top box plays live video, including an ability to pause live video upon the occurrence of an event. The system can detect an event, including an event unrelated to video, and prompt a user to pause. The system can include configuration settings enabling, for example, detection of various events, prompting the user to pause live video, and/or automatically pausing the live video. The system enables the user to play a time-shifted video corresponding to resuming the paused video playback. The system can include a Digital Video Recorder (DVR) local to the user, to facilitate the time-shifted video.
Abstract: A power management system includes a generator, a meter mounted transfer switch, and a power management module. The generator includes a controller positioned in the housing of the generator. The generator connects to the power management module to provide power to one or more electrical loads. The controller is configured to selectively disconnect at least one of the electrical loads by communicating, via a wireless gateway, to a transfer switch of the power management module to move between first and second positions for connecting the generator to the one or more electrical loads.

Abstract: A login session server establishes a communications session between an application executing on a device and a service provided by a web services gateway. A temporary login session socket is established and a token is sent to the device. The temporary login session socket may be used to verify a service provided by the web services gateway.

Abstract: An imaging system comprises an adaptor plate configured to be removably coupled to a gantry structure of the imaging system, a plurality of detectors configured to be removably coupled to the adaptor plate, and one or more conduits for a fluid to flow through, wherein the fluid is used to cool the imaging system.
Abstract: We describe a new approach to fabricate polymeric materials with surface structures for applications as anti-reflective, anti-icing, superhydrophobic, superhydrophilic, de-wetting, and self-cleaning coatings. In some variations, a surface-textured layer comprises first microdomains and second microdomains each containing polymerized cross-linkable photomonomer, where the first microdomains have a higher average cross-link density than that of the second microdomains. The first microdomains and the second microdomains are in a peak-valley surface topology, providing surface texture with no filler particles.

Abstract: Methods and devices for lowering precision of computations used in shader programs may include receiving program code for a shader program to use with a graphics processing unit (GPU) that supports half precision storage and arithmetic in shader programs. The methods and devices may include performing at least one pass on the program code to select a set of operations within the program code to lower a precision of a plurality of computations used by the set of operations and evaluating a risk of precision loss for lowering the precision to a half precision for each computation of the plurality of computations. The methods and devices may include generating edited program code by rewriting the computation to the half precision in response to the risk of precision loss being a precision loss threshold.
Abstract: A metal film for use by an additive manufacturing apparatus is described herein. The metal film has a support structure and metal voxels removably attached to the support structure by respective junctions. When a metal voxel in the metal film is impacted by an energy pulse from an energy source of the additive manufacturing apparatus, one or more junctions that attach the metal voxel to the support structure are broken, resulting in the metal voxel detaching from the metal film (at a desired location in a two-dimensional plane).
