Abstract: A method for facilitating focused use of an email client includes entering an inbox pause mode and pausing display of at least some new email messages and email notifications while in the inbox pause mode. The method also includes detecting, while in the inbox pause mode, a selection by a user of a previously received email message that was received prior to entering the inbox pause mode. The method also includes displaying, while in the inbox pause mode, information about a subsequently received email message that is received subsequent to entering the inbox pause mode and that belongs to a conversation comprising the previously received email message.

Abstract: A system and method for the estimation of the cardinality of large sets of transaction trace data is disclosed. The estimation is based on HyperLogLog data sketches that are capable to store cardinality relevant data of large sets with low and fixed memory requirements. The disclosure contains improvements to the known analysis methods for HyperLogLog data sketches that provide improved relative error behavior by eliminating a cardinality range dependent bias of the relative error. A new analysis method for HyperLogLog data structures is shown that uses maximum likelihood analysis methods on a Poisson based approximated probability model. In addition, a variant of the new analysis model is disclosed that uses multiple HyperLogLog data structured to directly provide estimation results for set operations like intersections or relative complement directly from the HyperLogLog input data.
Abstract: Multi-color flash with image post-processing that uses a camera device with a multi-color flash and implements post-processing to generate images is described. In one aspect, the multi-color flash with image post-processing may be implemented by a controller configured to control a camera and flashes of at least two different colors. The controller may be configured to cause the camera to acquire a first image of a scene while the scene is being illuminated with the first flash but not the second flash, then cause the camera to acquire a second image of the scene while the scene is being illuminated with the second flash but not the first flash, and generate a final image of the scene in post-processing based on a combination of the first image and the second image.

Abstract: A coherent lidar system, a method of operating the coherent lidar system and a vehicle including the coherent lidar system involve a beam steering device to direct output light from the system within a field of view. A first series of positions of the beam steering device defines a first scan pattern within the field of view and a second series of positions of the beam steering device defines a second scan pattern within the field of view. The coherent lidar system includes a controller to provide transition positions to the beam steering device to transition the beam steering device from the first scan pattern to the second scan pattern. The transition positions follow a basis spline (B-spline) function.
Abstract: A method and digital signage server for managing display of a distributed digital signage content. The digital signage server stores a first placement target for the distributed digital signage content, and a second placement target for the distributed digital signage content. The distributed digital signage content is displayed on a first digital signage player according to the first placement target and displayed on a second digital signage player according to the second placement target. The digital signage server exchanges messages with the first and second digital signage players for negotiating a modification of the first and second placement targets. The digital signage server ultimately modifies the first and second placement targets based on the messages exchanged with the first and second digital signage players.
Abstract: A system is configured to determine whether a member of a social networking service is online or offline with the social networking service. The system updates the online or offline status of the member in accordance with whether the member is connected to the social networking service. The system further implements an anti-jitter mechanism that prevents a waste of computing resources where the member is connected to the social networking service using an intermittent connection. The anti-jitter mechanism leverages heartbeat messages and timestamps to determine whether the member is online or offline with the social networking service. The anti-jitter mechanism further includes the use of one or more delay triggers, where each delay trigger may be generated based on a received heartbeat message. As the status of the member changes, the social networking service disseminates the status change to other members communicatively coupled to the social networking service.
Abstract: A multi-section laser device is configured with a gain section and an integrated photodetector section. The photodetector section, rather than being a separate component, is integrated directly into the body of the laser. The integrated photodetector section absorbs photons generated by the gain section and creates a photocurrent that is proportional to the output of the multi-section laser device. The measured photocurrent is usable to calculate power output of the multi-section laser device and to identify any adjustments that may be needed to be made to the laser in order to achieve desired laser light output.

Abstract: Disclosed is a system for managing reads and writes to a sorted list of parameter values held in a write subsystem. Each parameter value is changeable and associated with a user. A read subsystem holds a persistent copy of the parameter values, which may be inconsistent with the write system values due to pending updates of one or more of the parameter values in the write subsystem. The system batch updates parameter values to the persistent copy from the write subsystem, but in the event of a read request, (1) the system determines whether the requested parameter value is inconsistent with the persistent copy; and (2) if so, produces a real-time update of the requested parameter value in the persistent copy without waiting for a batched update for the requested parameter value.
Abstract: Systems and techniques for permitting, establishing, monitoring and controlling calls based on messages from outside parties, outside party availability information, institution's call restriction information, and/or account holder preferences. In one example, a message from an outside party app on an outside party computing device is receive by an inmate app on an inmate device. The inmate device displays the message at the inmate calling app including a request for the inmate to call the outside party device during a time period. When the inmate initiates a call to the outside party the call is permitted or not permitted based on determining whether the call is within the specified time period.

Abstract: An interchangeable jewelry system or kit can include a jewelry base, one or more charms, and one or more keys. A manufacturer can configure the jewelry base so that a user can wear the jewelry system as a ring, necklace, bracelet, or any other type of jewelry. The jewelry base can include a recessed surround and a post recess. A manufacturer can size the charm to fit within the recessed surround and be configured in a variety of ways to lock into the recessed surround. A manufacturer can configure a key in a variety of ways so that a user can unlock the dot fitting from the recessed surround with the key. Once unlocked, the owner can remove the charm from the recessed surround of the jewelry base and can select an alternative dot fitting with a different design to lock into the recessed surround.
Abstract: The present invention discloses a novel apparatus and methods for providing a flow of cooling air to one or more turbine nozzles or turbine blade outer air seals. The flow of cooling air is provided by an external source and regulated in order to improve turbine nozzle and air seal cooling efficiency and component life.
Abstract: Provided is a method for communication with an intelligent industrial assistant and industrial machine. The method may include receiving a first natural language input from a user. The first natural language input may be associated with a first command for an industrial machine to perform a first process. The industrial machine may be instructed to perform the first process based on the first natural language input. A second natural language input may be received from the user while the industrial machine is performing the first process. A first response may be determined based on the second natural language input. Communication of the first response to the user may be initiated while the industrial machine is performing the first process. A system and computer program product are also disclosed.
Abstract: A system is disclosed for facilitating rotation of a mattress in a horizontal plane carried by a box spring or a platform. Surfaces between the mattress and the box spring or platform are selectively placed in engagement with each other. The surfaces may be provided by two separate covers; a single cover and the inherent surface roughness of the box spring or fixed or adjustable platform; a single cover with an embedded surface or no covers with embedded surfaces in both the mattress and the box spring or platform. In the latter embodiment, the mattress and the box spring or platform are secured together in a normal mode of operation to prevent unintended movement of the mattress.
