Abstract: An aspect of performing flow control of IO in a synchronous replication session between a local storage and a remote storage of a storage system includes tracking an amount of time an input/output (IO) request is processed at the remote storage including an amount of time the IO request is in transmit to and from the remote storage system. The amount of time indicates a remote latency value. An aspect also includes tracking an amount of time the IO request is processed at the local storage and calculating a difference between the remote latency value and the amount of time the IO request is processed at the local storage. The difference indicates a local latency value. An aspect further includes modifying an amount of IO requests admitted at the storage system as a function of the local latency value.

Abstract: Described examples include light fixtures and/or radio frequency (RF) nodes located in a service volume provided with a mobile asset detection system. The RF nodes receive beacon signals transmitted by mobile assets within the service volume. The mobile asset detection system includes a processor, a transceiver and multi-element antenna array. The multi-element antenna array includes multiple discrete antenna elements that, in some examples, are arranged so that at least one of the discrete antenna elements is non-coplanar with the other discrete antenna elements of the antenna array. Using signal attribute values determined from a signal received via each of the respective discrete antenna elements, a three dimensional estimate of the location of the mobile assets in a service volume may be determined.

Abstract: A social overlay is provided that allows an application to seek human input when performing high-risk decisions. The overlay allows an application to obtain data confidence scores when performing operations and to obtain human confidence scores that can be used to seek input from users with high confidence scores. This allows applications to improve performance and avoid situations where an automated application may make a wrong decision that does not account for the associated risk.

Abstract: Methods are disclosed for creating a virtual encryption session prior to video streaming content being requested to reduce or eliminate delay in initialization of the encryption session and content delivery to the customer. A virtual session has control word(s) (CW) and virtual entitlement control message(s) (ECM) that are devoid of content specific information. One or more virtual sessions may be stored at an edge device and may be used to encrypt the first portion of a content stream while a content-specific encryption session is being initiated.

Abstract: The “factory installed” hydraulic circuitry of an automotive transmission is modified to increase line pressure to permit heavy duty and high performance applications of the transmission, and to prevent the onboard computer from sensing and counteracting the increased line pressure. The “factory installed” Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) regulator valve is modified to prevent over pressuring of this valve which would otherwise result from the increased line pressure. The “factory installed” Torque Converter Clutch control valve is modified to compensate for the increase in line pressure to adjust the application of the valve to prevent rough or abrupt gear shifts and provide smooth application of the torque converter clutch.

Abstract: A method is implemented at an electronic device for displaying output from an application. The electronic device includes a display module and an application. The application sends to the display module a request to display output on the fixed orientation display. The display module determines whether the application is able to scale the output from the application to fit the fixed orientation display. In accordance with a determination that the application is able to scale the output, the electronic device causes the application to receive information concerning the fixed orientation display from the display module and scale the output for display on the fixed orientation display according to the information. In accordance with a determination that the application is not able to scale the output, the display module scales the output received from the application, thereby enabling the output of the application to be displayed on the fixed orientation display.

Abstract: The invention relates to systems for transferring molten metal from one structure to another. Aspects of the invention include a transfer chamber constructed inside of or next to a vessel used to retain molten metal. The transfer chamber is in fluid communication with the vessel so molten metal from the vessel can enter the transfer chamber. A powered device, which may be inside of the transfer chamber, moves molten metal upward and out of the transfer chamber and preferably into a structure outside of the vessel, such as another vessel or a launder.

Abstract: An alignment system for a HUD is provided and includes a mirror, a mirror actuator, first and second light sources, an optic assembly, and a control module. The mirror actuator adjusts mirror orientation. The first light source generates a first light beam. The mirror directs the first light beam from the HUD to a combiner to generate a virtual image. The second light source generates a second light beam. The optic assembly directs the second light beam to the combiner to generate a fiducial. The control module: performs an alignment process including, based on received inputs, controlling the mirror actuator to adjust mirror orientation to adjust a position of the virtual image and align a portion of the virtual image, the fiducial and an eye of a viewer; determines a height of the eye based on a mirror angle; and displays another virtual image based on the height.

Abstract: This disclosure describes various structures, devices, and arrangements that replace a PSA used to hold shingled cells together with an adhesive film. For example, in an aspect, the present disclosure is directed to a shingled arrangement of photovoltaic (PV) cells. In some aspects, the shingled arrangement of PV cells may include a first PV cell, a second PV cell, and an adhesive film placed between a backside the first PV cell and a front side of the second PV cell. The adhesive film may be thermally bonded to the first PV cell and to the second PV cell after the application of localized heat and pressure and holds the first PV cell and the second PV cell together. Additionally, a bus bar of the second PV cell may be electrically connected to the first PV cell by a conductive via formed through the adhesive film.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for controlling dissemination of genomic data. One embodiment is a system that stores genomic data. The genomic data for each individual lists genetic variants determined to exist within that individual. The system receives an access request for a segment of genomic data for an individual, analyzes an authentication token within the request, authenticates the request as belonging to an account for a user based on the authentication token, and reviews authorization directives for the individual that indicate how predefined portions of genomic data are shared. The system also transmits the segment of genomic data in response to determining that the authorization directives permit the account to access the segment of genomic data, and prevents transmission of the segment of genomic data in response to determining that the authorization directives do not permit the account to access the segment of genomic data.

Abstract: An optical element includes a nanovoided polymer layer having a first refractive index in an unactuated state and a second refractive index different than the first refractive index in an actuated state. Compression or expansion of the nanovoided polymer layer, for instance, can be used to reversibly control the size and shape of the nanovoids within the polymer layer and hence tune its refractive index over a range of values, e.g., during operation of the optical element.
