Abstract: A method of transmitting speech frames in a TDMA network in which at least one time-slot of the TDMA frame is allocated to at least two users. The method comprises encoding user data from the at least two users into a single RLC/MAC block, allocating at least one time slot to the RLC/MAC block, and transmitting at least a portion of the encoded RLC/MAC block in the time-slot.

Abstract: An alert-me management system for a telecommunications infrastructure and a method of providing an alert-me service. In one embodiment, the system includes: (1) distributed alert-me request servers configured to receive and aggregate alert-me requests pertaining to uniquely identified wireless terminals from calling parties and (2) an alert-me service manager configured to receive the alert-me requests from the distributed alert-me request servers, further aggregate the alert-me requests into a table based on the uniquely identified wireless terminals, generate status checks for the uniquely identified wireless terminals and respond to the distributed alert-me request servers with positive alert-me indications to prompt the distributed alert-me request servers to generate alerts to the calling parties.

Abstract: A method and system provides automatic/timed silencing of a mobile phone by a telecommunications network. The method has the steps of: forming a schedule of silence at a mobile phone; sending the schedule of silence to a mobile switching center; storing the schedule of silence in a subscriber database in the mobile switching center; blocking at least incoming calls at the mobile switching center according to the stored schedule of silence, and sending a first message to the mobile phone that instructs the mobile phone to enter a silence mode; transmitting, according to the stored schedule of silence, a second message from the mobile switching center to the mobile phone that instructs the mobile phone to exit the silence mode, and ceasing to block at least the incoming calls to the mobile phone. Abstract: In carrying out a method for auxiliary pilot cancellation in a wireless network reverse link, a base station receives signals from various wireless units over the reverse link. Some of the wireless units may transmit auxiliary pilot signals when transmitting high-speed packet data. For each active wireless unit, the base station monitors the received signals for the presence of auxiliary pilot signals. When present, the auxiliary pilot signals are regenerated, combined, and removed from the composite received signals, forming an interference-free output signal. The output signal is routed to an array of decoding units (one for each active user), for decoding data traffic. The auxiliary pilot signals may be routed to the decoding units for use in channel estimation calculations.
Abstract: A telephone subscriber is provided with call features associated with his home telephone line when the subscriber is at a remote (different) telephone line. Aspects include: registration of the subscriber at a remote telephone line with association of the subscriber's normal call feature set with the remote line; processing of incoming calls for the subscriber so that the calls reach the subscriber at the remote line with the subscriber's call feature set being available to handle processing of the incoming call; processing of outgoing calls from the subscriber at the remote line so that the calls are processed with the subscriber's call feature set.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing real time updates of a database describing the features of individual terminals of a shared plan telecommunications group for communication sessions from and to that individual terminal. The characteristics (numbering plan, incoming and outgoing screening, alternate routing, types of service provided) of each of the individual stations of the shared communication plan are stored in a database accessed through a server. The database can be updated in real time by a designated one of the stations in the shared group. Abstract: Allocation of a wireless communications system channel resource is managed by utilizing traffic segment allocation. This is realized by partitioning the channel resource into an assignment channel and a traffic channel in a fixed manner. The assignment channel includes assignment segments and the traffic channel includes traffic segments. The traffic segment is the basic traffic channel resource unit used to transport traffic data and has a prescribed finite time interval and bandwidth. Each traffic segment is associated with a so-called assignment segment in a prescribed manner. One or more traffic segments may be associated with a particular assignment segment. A base station broadcasts via an assignment segment which wireless terminal is to use a particular traffic segment. This is realized by transmitting a simply identifier for the particular wireless terminal assigned to the particular traffic segment in the assignment segment.
Abstract: A method is provided for operating a media gateway in a telecommunications system. The gateway provides bearer paths for communication traffic between network segments via contexts. Each context includes a collection of terminations that link the gateway to the network segments and a topology that defines the bearer paths between the terminations within the context.
Abstract: A method of processing, in parallel fashion, messages from a User Equipment (UE) in soft handoff with a plurality of base stations of a wireless communication system. Measurement Messages from the User Equipment are received and stored in a message buffer for a defined period of time. Later arriving messages replace previous messages during the defined period of time. When the defined period of time elapses, the latest stored message is processed in parallel fashion in a processing pipeline with other messages for the UE and other UEs. The latest message is processed by first converting it to soft handoff actions and inserting such actions into a processing pipeline. A conflict table is generated during the parallel processing of the soft handoff actions to avoid the processing of messages that conflict with each other. Conflicting messages are put into a pending state and remain in such state until they are canceled by subsequent messages or the conflict no longer exists.

Abstract: This invention introduces an intelligent buffering sharing scheme that supports multiple service classes and multiple drop priorities per class. The available buffers are shared between different queues but at the same time every queue will be guaranteed a certain minimum buffer allocation. Other schemes presented in the literature to not address this minimum buffer guarantee in the presence of multiple service classes and drop priorities. In addition, the scheme presented in this innovation is based on a static threshold approach that has certain implementation cost tradeoff with another dynamic threshold approach presented in the literature that deals with buffer management in the presence of multiple service classes and drop priorities per class.
Abstract: A process transmits digital data to an A/D converter via an analog channel. The process includes generating a sequence of output signals by preceding a sequence of input signal points to precompensate for ISI in the analog channel. In the preceding is matched to the ISI, at least one of the output signals would be distorted by the ISI to a signal representative of a signal point lying between quantization levels of the A/D converter. If the precoding is matched to the ISI, others of the output signals would be distorted by the ISI to signals representative of signal points that are quantization levels of the A/D converter. A majority of the input signal points are quantization levels of the A/D converter.
Abstract: A composition, comprising organic polymer molecules, and organic nonpolymeric molecules, wherein the composition is a semiconducting solid. The composition includes a distribution of crystal domains of the polymer molecules and inter-domain regions between the crystal domains, a concentration of polymer molecules being higher in the crystal domains than in the inter-domain regions, and a concentration of nonpolymeric molecules being higher in the inter-domain regions than in the crystal domains.
Abstract: A system for housing electronic components includes an enclosure with an interior, a door for accessing the interior, and a chassis. The components are attached to the chassis, which is pivotally connected to the enclosure for movement between retracted and deployed positions. In the former, the chassis lies within the interior. In the latter, it lies rotated or swung out the front of the enclosure, allowing for the components to be accessed while minimizing the depth/size of the enclosure. The enclosure includes an air intake in the base of the enclosure, and air exhaust ports in the rear of the enclosure, both protected by baffles/louvers. Air is drawn through the intake (using a fan), up through the interior for cooling purposes, and out the rear of the enclosure through the exhaust ports. This pathway has been found to minimize the ingress of sprayed liquid, for compliance with IEC IP44.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for directing energy in a plurality of azimuth directions. The amount of energy directed in the azimuth direction of a mobile terminal is a function of the location and acceptable receive strength of at least two mobile terminals. The function is such that the strength of an EM field at the location of any of these two mobile terminals is at least as large as, but not significantly larger than, needed for that mobile terminal to acceptably receive the signal carried by the EM field. The amount of energy to be directed in the azimuth direction of a mobile terminal is arrived at by first determining for each one of the mobile terminals an EM field that would have to be generated for the mobile terminal in order to provide an acceptable receive strength thereat, the determining taking into account the strength, at the location of the mobile terminal, of EM fields previously determined for others of the mobile terminals.
Abstract: A field-effect transistor includes source, drain, and gate electrodes; a crystalline or polycrystalline layer of inorganic semiconductor; and a dielectric layer. The layer of inorganic semiconductor has an active channel portion physically extending from the source electrode to the drain electrode. The inorganic semiconductor has a stack of 2-dimensional layers in which intra-layer bonding forces are covalent and/or ionic. Adjacent ones of the layers are bonded together by forces substantially weaker than covalent and ionic bonding forces. The dielectric layer is interposed between the gate electrode and the layer of inorganic semiconductor material. The gate electrode is configured to control a conductivity of an active channel part of the layer of inorganic semiconductor.

Abstract: A method of fulfilling a request for information content with a user-selectable version of a file containing that information content. Abstract: A system for efficiently sending cells in-order to independent switching fabrics according to a serial high speed interface (HSI) protocol. The system includes redundancy in that fabrics may be removed by deleting the fabrics from striping and reassembly sequences. When fabrics are added, the fabrics are added to the striping and reassembly sequences. The system is efficient due in part to in-order transmission of cells serially across multiple fabrics. Full fabric bandwidth is thereby utilized without reordering overhead. Since packets are striped across all available fabrics, load is balanced across the fabrics.

Abstract: A method is provided of transmitting a control message on a Forward Access Channel (FACH) from a base station in a network for mobile telecommunications in response to a Random Access Channel (RACH) message received from a mobile user terminal.
