    Abstract: A method is provided of transmitting signals from two or more antennas in a wireless telecommunications network, in which at least one data sequence is space-time block encoded. Before transmitting the data sequence, a linear transformation is applied to the data sequence, the linear transformation being adapted to use knowledge of correlation among the antennas to at least partially compensate the transmitted signals for said correlation. The linear transformation depends on the eigenvalues of an antenna correlation matrix. The linear transformation further depends on a ratio of symbol energy (ES) to noise variance (?2). The method includes transmitting the encoded and transformed data sequence.

    Abstract: The problems of large tables in Ethernet switches used on a metropolitan area scale, and the exposure of the enterprise network topologies, can be avoided by encapsulating each original Ethernet packet, which originates in a first network of an entity, e.g., an enterprise, a customer, or a network service provider, within another Ethernet packet which is given a source address that identifies the new encapsulating packet as originating at a port of a switch that is located at the interface between the first network in which the original packet originated and a second Ethernet network, e.g., the metropolitan area Ethernet network, which is to transport the encapsulating packet. When the encapsulating packet would exceed the allowable Ethernet packet length, the original packet may be split up at the interface between the first and second network and the resulting parts encapsulated into two encapsulating packets.

The SMSC allocates (420) processing resources for the incoming call using a voice coder/frame selector (218) and designates a data link connection identifier (DLCI) identifying the voice coder resources to be used for the call. The SMSC sends (422) the DLCI to the BMSC and the BMSC assigns traffic channel resources for the call via an attached base station (208). The BMSC provides (424) the DLCI to the base station, causing the base station to establish a packet link between the voice coder and the traffic channel resources. Thereafter, the BMSC rings (426) the mobile unit.

If the user wants to send a multimedia mail message, the bandwidth requirements for the call are renegotiated to reduce bandwidth for sending the multimedia mail message (306). The multimedia mail message is then transmitted over-the-air to a multimedia mail system (208), where the multimedia mail message is buffered, transcoded (if necessary) and stored until the called party retrieves it (308, 310).

In one embodiment, the method includes: a) receiving an incoming call, b) ringing the mobile station, c) receiving a mid-call call forwarding activation from the mobile station, d) retrieving a telephone number associated with the mid-call call forwarding activation from a service plan associated with the subscriber, and e) forwarding the incoming call to a telephone device associated with the retrieved telephone number. In another embodiment, the mid-call call forwarding activation is a control signal resulting from a user pressing at least one key on the mobile station. In other aspects, a method of adding and/or modifying a selective mid-call call forwarding feature to a service plan associated with the subscriber is provided.

    Abstract: The present invention discloses a single unified decoder for performing both convolutional decoding and turbo decoding in the one architecture. The unified decoder can be partitioned dynamically to perform required decoding operations on varying numbers of data streams at different throughput rates. It also supports simultaneous decoding of voice (convolutional decoding) and data (turbo decoding) streams. This invention forms the basis of a decoder that can decode all of the standards for TDMA, IS-95, GSM, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, and CDMA2000. Processors are stacked together and interconnected so that they can perform separately as separate decoders or in harmony as a single high speed decoder. The unified decoder architecture can support multiple data streams and multiple voice streams simultaneously. Furthermore, the decoder can be dynamically partitioned as required to decode voice streams for different standards.

In one aspect of the invention, a technique for generating a visualization representative of an environment comprises the following steps. A dense set of image data is captured from the environment. The captured image data is compressed for storage. A portion of the compressed image data may then be decompressed so as to render a visualization representative of the environment from a selected novel viewpoint. Another portion of the image data may be prefetched and decompressed such that captured image data surrounding the selected novel viewpoint is available to be rendered.

    Abstract: In a virtual network computing (VNC) system wherein multiple users, or viewers, at different locations share a common desktop computer for the purpose of sharing control of software applications, the VNCSESSION owner exercises dynamic Internet protocol (IP)-based control over access of the viewers to the server associated with the shared desktop. The VNCSESSION owner is defined as the user who initiates the server and the first viewer to connect to the desktop. The session owner is given full access to the desktop, i.e., active access permitting the viewer to exercise control over the application. For the remaining connected viewers, only VNCVIEWERS having their IP address present in a VNC security file containing authorized IP addresses can initiate activity on the desktop, or exercise control over the application. All other connected viewers may only review desktop activity initiated by other viewers, but cannot initiate such activity themselves, i.e., cannot exercise control over the application.

The action objects all model different actions that need to be performed in a configuration application architecture and insulates the network objects from having any knowledge of session and event information. Leaf objects and actions are specialized to perform any configuration related actions. In the Core Network Management Object Model an Object Factory creates the unique object and an Action Factory creates the unique action. The action shall then be performed on the unique object to get, set and modify device information through SNMP and also to store the information in the database.

Advantageously, such reconciliation may include a rules based reconciliation wherein the geo-coordinates from the commercial vendors are used and applied to the local data. A new base line map is then generated and distributed back to the local user. In this manner, the local user has an accurate yet economical map.

The NOF algorithm calculates an optimal back-off or contention window which is broadcast to users competing for system bandwidth. The NOF algorithm handles data contention in cycles and guarantees that each user competing for system bandwidth within a cycle will make a successful reservation before the cycle ends and a new cycle begins. The size of the back-off window is preferably equal to the number of successful reservations in the previous cycle, and functions as an estimate of the number of competing users in the current cycle.

    Abstract: In one embodiment, a rotatable element includes a plate, a plate support, a cradle, and a cradle support. The plate is coupled to the cradle via the plate support. The cradle is coupled to a surrounding frame by the cradle support. The plate and cradle are suspended over a cavity so that, in conjunction with the plate support and the cradle support, both the plate and cradle are capable of freely rotating about different axes of rotation when suitably actuated. Since the plate is capable of rotating independently of the cradle, yet also rotates when the cradle is rotated, the plate is rotatable about two axes of rotation. In some cases, the axis of rotation of the plate is perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the cradle. Since the cradle does not surround the plate, the plates of adjacent rotatable elements can be placed very close to one another (i.e., as close as about 1 micron) to provide, for example, an array of very-closely-spaced mirrors.

A processor notification list (304) keeps track of the independent processing systems that cooperatively provide an application.
