  • Patent number: 7366178
Abstract: A method and apparatus for scheduling the transmission of data packets over a multihop wireless backhaul network in which delay guarantees through the network may be advantageously ensured. Illustratively, a novel packet scheduling scheme is provided which is advantageously based on an existing scheduling policy for wireline networks and for which a delay guarantee (based on the delay characteristics of the existing scheduling policy) can be advantageously ensured. In one embodiment, an even-odd link activation framework is defined for a given multihop wireless backhaul network, and an associated scheduling policy based on an arbitrary existing scheduling policy for wireline networks is derived and adopted. In such a case, the derived scheduling policy, when applied to the given multihop wireless backhaul network, advantageously ensures a worst-case delay guarantee of approximately twice that of the existing scheduling policy for wireline networks.

  • Patent number: 7366518
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for utilizing SCH resources more efficiently for supplemental channels (SCH) by minimizing gaps between data bursts due to overhead delays. Such gaps are minimized using a supplemental channel sharing algorithm to prospectively assign SCH resources supporting existing SCHs and to schedule future issuance of DNRs such that currently unavailable SCH resources may be prospectively assigned based on states of the SCH resources, wherein an existing SCH is a SCH over which a data burst is currently being transmitted.

  • Patent number: 7366526
Abstract: This technique is applied in the circumstances where an intersystem page message, e.g. an IS-41 ISPAGE2 message, is received in a first border switching module. The intersystem page message may originate from a second border switching module. In this case, the network determines whether the second border switching module is manufactured by a different network provider than the first border switching module. If so, a routine to address inconsistencies in the location area parameter is implemented so that an efficient paging strategy can be invoked.

  • Publication number: 20080094682
Abstract: An optical system having a spatial light modulator (SLM), in which each pixel has an optical cavity and is adapted to: (i) change the intensity of a reflected beam by changing the size of the cavity and (ii) change the phase of the reflected beam by changing the position of the cavity with respect to a reference plane. In one embodiment, the optical system has optics configured to image the apertures of an optical input mask onto the pixels of the SLM and to form an optical spot array by imaging the light reflected by the pixels onto a plane orthogonal to the plane of the mask. Each aperture can be configured to have a transmission pattern to spatially modulate the light imaged onto the corresponding pixel, thereby enabling control of the spatial mode at the corresponding spot in the optical spot array.

  • Patent number: 7362977
Abstract: A method for reducing intra-channel, non-linear distortions of an optical signal resulting from non-linear fiber propagation includes applying a polarization mode dispersion (PMD) pre-distortion to an optical signal such that the PMD pre-distortion produces two replica signals of the optical signal spaced by a differential group delay (DGD). The replica signals are adapted for transmission via an optical fiber. The DGD spacing is selected to reduce intra-channel, non-linear distortions imparted by the optical fiber.

  • Patent number: 7362969
Abstract: A paraboloidal catadioptric camera is calibrated by relaxing the assumption of an ideal system to account for perspective projection, radial distortion, and mirror misalignment occurring within the camera system. Calibration points, which are small and visually distinct objects, are distributed at fixed locations within an environment. Omnidirectional images are captured by the catadioptric camera at different locations of the environment. Data points are obtained by identifying the location of the calibration points in each captured image. An optimization algorithm best-fits the data points to a perspective camera model in order to derive parameters, which are used to calibrate the catadioptric camera.

  • Patent number: 7359466
Abstract: In a MIMO system the bit error rate floor caused by time dispersion is reduced by employing a joint minimum mean square error (MMSE) equalizer for all of the respective transmit antenna—receive antenna pairings that are possible in the MIMO system. The resulting joint equalization compensates not only for the impact of the channel on the transmit antenna—receive antenna pairings but also for the interference of the other transmit antennas on any given receive antenna. The joint equalization outperforms simply replicating the prior art minimum mean square error (MMSE) equalizer for each transmit antenna—receive antenna pairings.
