Patent number: 7240240Abstract: A technique for managing process state information involves pushing process state information from the kernel space to the user space in the event of an application crash and generating a core file at the user level instead of at the kernel level. Handling the process state information at the user level instead of at the kernel level provides more flexibility in the generation and management of a core file as compared to systems that use kernel code to generate and manage the core file. A core dump application at the user level can be programmed to forward the core file to another system that has permanent storage capacity available. Additionally, the core dump application can be programmed to compress the process state information and/or to extract only certain information from the process state information while generating the core file.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 2005Date of Patent: July 3, 2007Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Thirumalpathy Balakrishnan, Artem Belevich

Patent number: 7236536Abstract: Techniques for transmitting and receiving signals using a linear propagation channel, and the detection and decoding of the signals, are described. The symbols are decoded by computing the likelihood of each bit in a block of data in light of all blocks of received complex data and the constraints imposed by the channel code. Extrinsic information and a priori information are exchanged in an iterative fashion until desired performance is achieved. Extrinsic probability values are computed by searching through hypotheses in the constellation of available symbols to maximize the extrinsic probability values, with decoding employing a stored list of candidate points for discovered within a search radius, the list comprising the solution points found within the smallest radii.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 2002Date of Patent: June 26, 2007Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Bertrand Martyn Hochwald, Stephan Ten Brink

Patent number: 7236791Abstract: The present invention relates to wireless telephone networks, and more particularly to the allocation of radio channels to calls in CDMA-based systems when their Radio Access Networks (RAN) are congested. A Base Station (BS) receives a call origination from a mobile device. The BS communicates information about the call and about its radio availability to a Mobile Switching Center (MSC). The MSC determines the priority of the call and how the call should be treated by the BS based on the supplied information. The MSC communicates the treatment information and the priority information back to the BS. When the RAN is congested, high-priority calls are queued. These high-priority calls are served based on allocation specification in which radio channels may be assigned to low-priority calls, which are not queued, while there are still calls in the queue.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2005Date of Patent: June 26, 2007Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Michael Dwayne Chambers, Renling Lawrence Huang, Ismael Lopez, Rafael Quintero, Douglas Harvey Riley

Patent number: 7236484Abstract: Methods and systems for providing wide-band voice service via a telecommunications switch are described herein. A call can be initiated from a wide-band telecommunications device (e.g., an IP telephone) to another telecommunications device through a gateway (e.g., an IP gateway) associated with one or more telecommunications networks, such as, for example, a WAN, LAN and/or PSTN. One or more digital signals (e.g., 4 or fewer DS0s) can then be reserved for the call, if a telecommunications switch (e.g., a class 5 circuit switch, 5ESS®, etc.) associated with one or more of the telecommunications networks determines that at least one timeslot is available to permit a transfer of the call to the other telecommunications device.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 2002Date of Patent: June 26, 2007Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Joseph John Kott, Carl Robert Posthuma

Publication number: 20070142059Abstract: A “user plane” location system for implementing a location based service (“LBS”) such as enterprise fleet tracking includes a number of GPS-enabled wireless mobile units in communication with a wireless network. Location data is periodically transmitted from various “client” mobile units to a “server” mobile unit. The location data relates to the respective physical locations of the client mobile units, and may be determined from GPS signals received by the client mobile units. Once the server mobile unit receives the location data, the location data is processed for use in one or more LBS applications. This may include displaying the location data on a screen or other display of the server mobile unit, including displaying the location data in conjunction with map data. The use of a server mobile unit facilitates portability of the server functionality to remote locations.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 15, 2005Publication date: June 21, 2007Applicant: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventor: Shengqiang Wang

Publication number: 20070140706Abstract: In an over-sampled maximum-likelihood sequence estimation (MLSE) receiver system, the optimal sample spacing is determined for a variety of conditions. In an illustrative implementation, the system includes an optical filter for tightly filtering an incoming optical data signal with an on-off-keying (OOK) non-return-to-zero (NRZ) format, followed by an optical-to-electrical converter, an electrical filter, a sampler, and a MLSE receiver. The sampler samples the filtered electrical data signal twice each bit period with unequal sample spacings. For wide optical filtering bandwidths, the optimal sample spacing occurs at less than 50% of a bit period. For narrow bandwidths, the optimal sample instances occur closer to the maximum eye opening.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 19, 2005Publication date: June 21, 2007Applicant: LUCENT TECHNOLOGIES INC.Inventors: Rene Essiambre, Michael Rubsamen, Peter Winzer

Publication number: 20070143236Abstract: Systems and techniques for classification of incoming text messages into categories. An initial set of categories is created and populated with a set of initial messages in each category. Incoming messages are assigned to a category based on text analysis of the incoming message and analysis of dissimilarities and differences between the message and messages already in the category. A set of unclassified messages is also maintained for incoming messages that do not fit an established category. Periodically, unclassified messages are reassigned to one of the established categories or to new categories created based on analysis of the unclassified messages.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 16, 2005Publication date: June 21, 2007Applicant: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Lorenz Huelsbergen, S. Patent number: 7230910Abstract: A channel sounding system employs orthogonal sequences to meet the Cramer-Rao bound in estimating the channel and achieves considerable simplification of the structure necessary to perform the channel sounding. These advantages are achieved by developing orthogonal sequences of substantially arbitrary length as a function of first and second existing orthogonal sequences and using such orthogonal sequences for channel sounding in lieu of M-sequences. The techniques of the invention are especially suited to systems that use multiple antennas at the transmitter and multiple antennas at the receiver, so called multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 2001Date of Patent: June 12, 2007Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Eric C.
