Abstract: This invention relates to a gauge device which may be used by a toolmaker or machinist to determine the squareness of surfaces on a workpiece. The device has a handle having a gauge mounted adjacent an end of the arm opposite the handle and an intermediate contact point such that the inner surface of the handle and the intermediate contact point define the planes of the surfaces of the workpiece to be measured. The device is easily used, easily transported, and capable of use with work-pieces having chamfered or otherwise altered corners, holes, slots or other imperfections that make determination of squareness difficult.
Abstract: An endless flexible press jacket for a press roll, a process for its fabrication and an apparatus upon which it is fabricated. The press jacket comprises a radially inner layer of elastomeric material which is provided with embedded layers of reinforcing yarns, an inner longitudinal layer of yarns extending under tension between the lateral ends of the endless tubular press jacket and a helical winding of peripheral yarns pretensioned and wrapped around the longitudinal yarns. The longitudinal yarns are held pretensioned radially above a casting mandrel and the casting nozzle moves along the axis of the casting mandrel delivering a helix of castable jacket material around the casting mandrel. At the same time, the later peripheral yarns are applied into the longitudinal yarns in the applied jacket material.
Abstract: This invention relates to an improved aqueous based drilling fluid and specifically to a water soluble polymer that imparts desirable performance characteristics to the final drilling fluid. The invention also relates to the method for preparation of the polymer and drilling fluid. The water soluble polymer is especially useful in that it exhibits superior tolerance to divalent cations, salts, solids and elevated temperatures when added to aqueous drilling fluids. The polymer additive is characterized by increased viscosity at low shear rates and improved fluid loss control thereby exhibiting superior rheological and thixotropic properties. The polymer consists of reaction products of sulfonated monomers and monomers added to enhance the functional characteristics of the polymer.
Abstract: In a continuous cycle the apparatus denests stacked plant pots and plant flats and fills the flats with the pots. Two piston mounted vacuum grippers employing arrays of suction cups are mounted to a frame. The flat gripper moves vertically to destack an array of plant flats or trays, and the pot gripper moves vertically to destack an array of plant pots. Both grippers are moveable between a retracted position, an unloading position, and a multiplicity of loading positions. A carriage is reciprocated on wheels between a first position beneath the flat gripper in its unloading position and a second position beneath the pot gripper in its unloading position.Stacks of nested plant flats and arrays of stacks of nested pot--both of which may be contained in their original shipping containers--are positioned beneath their respective grippers and aligned with the flat and pot grippers by means of adjustable alignment flanges.

Abstract: A device for separating particles in a liquid in which a paper suspension to be cleaned and supplied to a chamber of revolution (1) rotating about an axis (2). Movable deviators (7, 8) precede the fixed outlets (9, 10) to intercept most of the through-put of the suspension in the region of the periphery of the chamber (1), then deviate it towards the longitudinal axis of rotation (2) so as to recover most of the kinetic energy of rotation. The outlets (7, 8, 9, 10) are situated at the opposite end to that of chamber (1) from the supply (5, 6) and are arranged at the periphery of this chamber (1). A diabolo-shaped central body of revolution (11) is arranged inside the chamber, along the longitudinal axis of rotation (2) for rotation about its axis and with a radial run-off (12) in the vicinity of its smallest cross-section connected to an axial outlet duct (13).

Abstract: A reduced calorie, low acid (pH greater than 4.6) dessert topping having a water activity of less than 0.84 and comprising a blend of carrageenan gum, (with gelling and viscosity control) powdered cellulose bulking agent, a non-heat thinning gum cellulose bulking agent, high fructose corn syrup, a humectant and certain trace food additive amounts less than about 0.5%.
Abstract: The present invention provides in a Free electron laser a means to increase the temporal resolution of the optical pulses while simultaneously increasing the spectral resolution of the pulse train. The increase in temporal resolution is achieved by introducing a quadratic temporal phase variation (i.e. linear frequency chirping) across the pulses, and then propagating the outcoupled pulses through a dispersive relay line to compress them to the transform limit of the broadened spectrum.
Abstract: The invention is an improvement to machining vises that allows the effective width between the opposing jaw faces to be variably increased beyond that of the standard opposing faces of the stationary and movable jaws. To provide the increased jaw width, jaw segments having a notched reception area are received in key-ways extending laterally across extended upper surfaces of the stationary and movable jaws. At least one key-way is formed on the upper surface of the stationary jaw and at least two key-ways are formed in the upper surface of the movable jaw. The number and placement of the jaw segments are determined by the configuration of the workpiece to be machined so as to properly hold the workpiece in such a manner the machining operation is not obstructed.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for refrigerant recovery which removes refrigerant in liquid form from an air conditioning unit by cooling the refrigerant, thereby creating a temperature gradient between the air conditioning unit and the recovery apparatus which urges the refrigerant from the air conditioning unit into the apparatus, and then storing the refrigerant in a tank. Refrigerant vapor is pumped from the tank back into the air conditioning unit, thereby avoiding pressure buildup in the tank and also preventing the liquid refrigerant from being retained in the air conditioning unit due to vacuum created therein by the refrigerant removal. Cooling apparatus within the recovery apparatus uses a separate supply of refrigerant to cool the refrigerant, and neither the air conditioning unit itself nor the removed refrigerant is used for this purpose, allowing refrigerant removal from an inoperative air conditioning unit.
