  • Patent number: 5157338
Abstract: The invention described a pocket size antenna VSWR indicator having a self-contained low level wideband RF signal source which is applied to an antenna under test through a four arm RF resistive bridge circuit. The bridge circuit has been designed to be very accurate and reliable and provides a novelly positioned reference against which the reflection co-efficient of the transmission system is compared to reliably indicate the VSWR of the system. The bridge circuit provides a flat response over the desired wideband frequency range and over the range of antenna impedances which may be encountered. The RF null or bridge balance is detected in a radio receiver or transceiver tuned to the desired operating frequency, from which an indication of antenna VSWR may be provided. The antenna VSWR may be indicated in a variety of way, such as by means of a numbered or colored dial, a plurality of LEDs or an audio tone shift against an internal reference.

  • Patent number: 5156480
Abstract: The invention relates to a frictional resistance coupling for transmitting torque between two coaxial components, for example a shaft with an articulated shaft, the coupling comprises an outer part and an inner part, which enclose an inner chamber with a conical wall. Inserted to move axially in the inner chamber is an annular piston of the same conicity, so that when the annular piston moves axially by means of a pressure medium, a radial clamping force and thus frictional resistance for transmitting torque is produced. The pressure chambers located on both sides of the annular piston in each case comprise a further connection to a low pressure source. The pressure chamber respectively not supplied with high pressure is supplied with pressure medium from a low pressure source during the displacement process and when the piston reaches the end position within the inner chamber, the opening of the low pressure passage is closed by the end face of the piston.

  • Patent number: 5157457
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a sensor which utilizes an optical fiber interferometer to detect the absorption of a modulated laser beam by a particular chemical species. In particular, one embodiment of the present invention comprises a fiber optic system in which light from a continuously operating laser is modulated prior to passing through a region containing a chemical species of interest. Absorption of the light from the laser causes heating of the chemical species which, in turn, emits thermal energy that is transferred to an optical fiber that is situated in close proximity to the region in which the light is absorbed. In turn, the increase of the temperature of the optical fiber results in a change in the fiber's refractive index, thereby resulting in a change in the transmittance of said interferometer. The change in transmittance of the fiber is converted into an electrical signal in a photodetector.

  • Patent number: 5155829
Abstract: A secure read only memory in which an external address of (n-m) bits is applied to an address controller which converts the external address into an n bit internal address which is applied to a read only memory to obtain data stored in the read only memory at the address locations. The address controller includes detector circuits for detecting improper accesses to the memory. In response to an improper access to the memory, the memory controller will produce an improper access signal which improper access signal is used to terminate operation of the system or to modify the address so that the data produced in response to the external address has essentially no direct reproducable relationship to the actual address of the memory location of the random access memory where the data is stored.

  • Patent number: 5153510
Abstract: A high voltage measuring system with very high input impedance. The system measures a high voltage source under test by developing a control signal which is proportional to the differential voltage between the high voltage source being tested and an adjustable high voltage reference. This control signal is fed back into a controller which adjusts the reference source so as to match the reference source with the source under test. When the controller detects that matching has occurred, it measures the reference source. By measuring the reference source, as opposed to measuring the source under test directly, the system avoids loading down the source under test.
