  • Patent number: 5831978
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for transmitting a plurality of information streams having variable data rates. A plurality of information streams are multiplexed together into a common information frame. The information is channel encoded and multiplexed with a number of overhead bits including encoding information on the multiplexed frame. The multiplexed frame is then demultiplexed into at least one channel frames that are each transmitted over a separate code channel such that the first code channel always includes the overhead bit data.

  • Patent number: 5828737
Abstract: In a bandwidth-on-demand type communications system, like that provided with a code division multiple access (CDMA) cellular communications system, charging subscribers for calls based on communications length provides an inaccurate measure of communication cost, and further serves to discourage use of the system for data transmission applications. To provide a more accurate cost determination, the amount of bandwidth used by each communication is metered and multiplied by a charging rate. In particular, measurements of the maximum amount of bandwidth used during predetermined time intervals are made during the course of each communication, with the maximum bandwidth measurements being summed to determine an estimate of the total amount of bandwidth used during the communication. The charge for the communication is then determined by multiplying the estimated total bandwidth measurement by a charging rate multiplier.

  • Patent number: 5826891
Abstract: A snowboard binding with step-in function holds a boot by means of front and heel brackets. The heel bracket is preferably coupled to a driving element that moves the heel bracket in the direction toward the other bracket and simultaneously downward, namely in the direction toward the snowboard surface, during the movement from the open position to the closed position. A spring piston locks the driving element directly or indirectly in the closed position. This locking effect is realized in such a way that the closing force of the binding does not depend on the force of the spring of the spring piston.

  • Patent number: 5825019
Abstract: A timing device which is associated with a light level sensor and which is arranged to provide a time-out signal to a relay after a predetermined time has elapsed following detection of a low light condition and initial energization of the relay. The device provides for synchronization of an initiation time T.sub.1 and, hence, a time-out signal generating time T.sub.2 with respect to a periodically occurring event time T.sub.3 (for example, sunset time) in order that the desired time of generating the time-out signal might be re-established following interruption of power to the device. Should loss of power occur, the last entered event time T.sub.3 is employed to synchronize the initiation time T.sub.1 and, hence, the signal generating time T.sub.2, when detection of a predetermined light level next occurs following re-establishment of power to the device.
