  • Patent number: 5404811
Abstract: Two press units have axes which lie in a pressing plane which is inclined to the vertical direction and they form a press nip with each other. The two press units are supported by bearing brackets which are coupled in pairs to each other by detachable tension bars which transmit the pressing force. The bearing brackets of the one press unit are supported rigidly (i.e. directly on a machine frame, foundation, or the like) and bear at least a part of the weight of the other press unit. A support device on the machine frame, foundation, or the like at least temporarily takes up a component of the weight of the other press unit which is directed transverse to the pressing plane.

  • Patent number: 5405517
Abstract: An apparatus is described for depositing a thin film (9) of compound materials on selected substrates (48) in an evacuable coating chamber. This apparatus includes a rotating primary surrogate magnetron cathode surface (19) which acts to receive, in-situ, material to be sputtered. Vapor crucibles (2) expose the rotating cathode surface (19) to material vapors (8) which condense on the thermally cooled cathode surface (19) to combine with other coatings on the cathode and are thence rotated through the associated plasma sputter zone (26P) to sputter deposit desired film (9). Auxiliary rotating magnetron cathodes (32) can deposit additional material onto rotating primary cathode (19). Molten material crucible assemblies (31) having coating rollers (34) can convey molten material onto rotating auxiliary thermally cooled cathode surfaces (32) which sputter coat primary cathode.

  • Patent number: 5404424
Abstract: A method for real time message transmission in a token ring network is provided. The method initializes each node in the network, including setting a maximum message transmission time H.sub.i such that ##EQU1## is the transmission time of a message in a message stream, P.sub.i is the period length of the message stream, TTRT is the target token rotation time, and .tau. is the portion of TTRT that is unavailable to transmit messages. The messages are then transmitted when a token arrives at a node for the duration of H.sub.i. Using this method with the timed token protocol, the synchronous messages are guaranteed to be transmitted before their deadlines if the utilization of synchronous messages is no more than 33% of available utilization.

  • Patent number: 5402620
Abstract: A device is described for closing and laterally sealing plastic film wrapped bundles containing sheets or the like, by wrapping them in a thermally shrinkable plastic film, which comprises two sealing plates (25,26) suitable to be moved against lateral opposite sides of a bundle (29) for sealing them. These plates (25,26) are preferably hinged on two slides (2,3 ) suitable to be contemporaneously either approached or moved apart from each other as a function of the width of the bundle (29) to be laterally sealed. Two nozzles (31,32) are moreover provided, which form air jets against laterally protruding portions (30) of the plastic film, so that said protruding portions are easily folded by said plates (25,26). A so closed and sealed bundle is then carried inside an oven for thermally shrinking the wrapped film.

  • Patent number: 5404226
Abstract: The description relates to a process for determining the position of a positioning body in relation to a reference body in which the positioning body has a scale with markings at constant distances and the reference body has a scanner with a projection surface on which the markings of the scale are projected by imaging optics. The coordinates of the projection center of the imaging optics are trigonometrically calculated from the projection angles between the projection center and three markings arranged on the scale and from the constant distance between the markings. In addition, the angle of inclination of the positioning body in relation to the reference body is trigonometrically calculated via the co-ordinates found for the projection center, the distance between the projection center from the projection surface of the scanner and the image co-ordinates of the base of the vertical position of the position center above the projection surface.

  • Patent number: 5402874
Abstract: A conveyor coupled to a skid motor vehicle operates to unload bulk granular material from a railroad hopper car. The conveyor has an obtuse configured frame supporting an endless belt extended about an idler roller and a driven roller. A hydraulic motor mounted on the frame supplied with hydraulic fluid under pressure from the hydraulic system of the motor vehicle rotates the drive roller thereby moving the belt relative to the frame and mount thereon. A pair of transverse tubular box members are secured to the bottom of the frame to accommodate forks attached to the skid motor vehicle whereby the skid motor vehicle can lift the conveyor and transport it to another location.

  • Patent number: 5404391
Abstract: Each of the cellular telephones is adapted to receive a paging signal and to transmit a voice channel signal on a voice channel frequency in response to the paging signal. The alert system includes a receiver tuned to receive the voice channel frequency. A trigger circuit is connected to the output of the receiver to be activated by the receiver when the receiver receives a voice channel signal on the voice channel frequency. An alert is produced by either an audio signal generator, a vibratory generator or a radio mute, and each of the latter is connected to the ouput of the trigger. Thus, an alert is provided on receipt of an incoming telephone call.
