Abstract: The present invention is directed to a dye composition for use in CD-R recording media and having reduced wavelength dependence of the dye layer absorption, comprising:(1) a first cyanine dye having a peak absorption wavelength in the solid film form in the range of about 690 nm to about 730 nm, the amount of said first cyanine dye is about 90% to about 30% by weight, based on the total weight of the solid components in said dye composition; and(2) at least one noncyanine dye having a peak absorption wavelength in the range of about 900 nm to about 1200 nm, each noncyanine dye having an absorption coefficient greater than 30,000 cm.sup.-1 and said amount of noncyanine dye is about 10% to about 40% by weight, based on the total weight of the solid components in said dye composition. The invention is also directed to a recordable medium coated with the above dye composition, and a recording mechanism implementing the above dye composition.
Abstract: An electronic, computer based telecommunication system has an object oriented processor system with the aid of which data are exchanged between data bases and customers connected thereto. A data record is created from a selected memory in which all the information from for example a telephone call is stored, this record being common to all customers. The record comprises only that information which is required by the customers. From this data record then the specific data which are desired by an individual customer are extracted. Three kinds of objects are defined and stored in corresponding memories, service templates, customer templates and an output type. The first objects define the types of service which is used. In a second object the information is defined which a customer wants to extract from the common data record. Thus each customer has its own customer template.

Abstract: Reinforced concrete slab and girder building structures incorporate shearing connectors with lengthwise support parts to which lengthwisely spaced, transversely extending, rigid load transfer plates affix. A girder structure having one or more lengthwisely extending girders is provided and the shear connectors are fixed to the girders near their support walls below a deck for supporting the slab, the shearing connectors being positioned so that portions of the load transfer plates and support parts project above the girder structure and deck to receive compression forces in the slab which are transferred by the connectors to the girders. The lengthwisely extending connector support parts have connections for carrying a series of lengthwisely spaced rebar rods which embed in the slab when it is poured and transfer compressive load forces to the transfer plates.
Abstract: A hybrid internal/external manifolded fuel cell stack comprising a plurality of fuel cell units, each of which comprises an anode and a cathode and an electrolyte in contact on one side with an electrolyte facing face of the anode and in contact on the opposite side with an electrolyte facing face of the cathode. A separator plate separates each of the fuel cell units between an anode and cathode forming an anode chamber between the anode facing face of the separator plate and the anode and forming a cathode chamber between the opposite cathode facing face of the separator plate and the cathode of an adjacent fuel cell unit. The anode chamber is in gas communication with a fuel gas supply and outlet provided through internal manifolds whereas the cathode chamber is in gas communication with an oxidant gas supply and outlet provided through external manifolds.
Abstract: A method for measuring moisture content along a drying line is described by the following stages: A first stage in which a predetermined (weight) quantity of product is withdrawn. A second stage in which, using a piece-counting system, the number of pieces forming the quantity of product withdrawn during the first stage is counted. A third stage in which the number of pieces of product is compared with predetermined values. The main advantage of this method its immediate response.

Abstract: A process for monitoring the flow of flowing media, especially for acquiring the heat transport capacity of the flowing medium, in which a measurement signal of a temperature measurement element influenced by at least one heating element and the medium flowing past it is monitored and in which an output signal is generated when the measurement signal of the temperature measurement element exceeds or falls below a switching point. A reduction of the reaction time of the process for monitoring the flow of flowing media is guaranteed by the heat output of the heating element and/or the location of the switching point changing as a function of the output signal.
Abstract: A system and method for the efficient execution of interleaved lookup and edit requests received by a connection database in an ATM exchange is described. The global address of an ATM cell is mapped to a smaller, equipment-specific local address using a connection database stored in each local exchange. When an ATM cell arrives at an ATM exchange, lookup request is sent to the connection database along with the global address values. Since the database operating system accords high priority to these lookup requests, the connection database temporarily suspends execution of all other tasks and return the local address of the ATM cell. A modified binary search algorithm is used for executing the interrupt-driven local address lookup requests. Entries in the connection database continually need to be added, deleted, replaced or verified. Efficient execution of these management tasks can be facilitated by maintaining the database in a sorted order using a modified bubblesort algorithm.
Abstract: An improved beacon light utilizing a plurality of LEDs. The light has a beacon portion wherein a plurality of individual LEDs are mounted on circuit boards attached together to form a substantially omnidirectional array of LEDs. The beacon portion may be constructed of upper and lower flat circular circuit boards, and a middle tubular circuit board to define a hollow cylinder. The middle circuit board is made of originally flat thin rigid circuit board material bent into a tube and attached at each free end. The middle circuit board is attached to the upper and lower rigid circuit boards using tangs extending from the middle circuit board. LEDs extend upward from the top circuit board, radially outward from the middle circuit board, and at a downward outwardly directed angle from the bottom circuit board. A base portion attached to the lower circuit board may be provided with a conventional male electrical socket member. In alternative forms, the beacon light may be spherically or conically shaped.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for attaching wrap-around labels to cylindrical or prismatic containers starting with cutting of a section of a label from a suitable foil material. Then, the label section is shaped or deformed, maximally to the limit of what is reversible for the material being used, at a time immediately prior to the application of the label section onto the exterior of the container. The undulated label section is placed around the exterior of the container so that the edges of the label are overlapping and an adhesion or gluing process is initiated, for example, by reaction and/or heating. Reforming of the shaped or deformed label section is retarded until the label section rests against the exterior of the container along with the permitting the simultaneous progress of the adhesive process to be completed.

Abstract: A method of providing a toy balloon with a ribbon comprising the steps of providing a toy balloon, a roll of ribbon having a free end, and a conveyor having a table portion for supporting at least a portion of the toy balloon and an adjacent recess for receiving the ribbon roll and for orienting the ribbon free end to overlie the table portion. The toy balloon is placed on the table portion and the ribbon roll is placed in the recess so as to overlie the toy balloon with the ribbon free end and securing the ribbon free end to the toy balloon.
Abstract: Methods are provided for the treatment of symptoms of sepsis and other conditions that are mediated by the action of CD14 myelomonocytic antigen ("CD14"). The embodiments herein include treatments for symptoms of sepsis that are triggered by lipopolysaccharide ("LPS"). A genetically engineered recombinant soluble CD14 ("rsCD14") and fragments thereof are also provided. Both rsCD14 and a fragment thereof have been isolated and purified. The rsCD14 or fragments thereof can be administered to mammals to prevent or treat symptoms that are associated with sepsis.
Abstract: A device is utilized in casino gaming environment that will count the number of hands of a given card game played per given period of time. The information is used by a database system within the casino to determine theoretical win/loss based upon historical and theoretical outcome data related to probability of winning/losing any given hand and then factoring in the number of hands played. Preferably this device is polled by a database system to collect this information. In a preferred embodiment, the device could be utilized with an automatic tracking and information management system.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for frequency planning in a multi-system cellular communications network is disclosed in which a plurality of systems operate over a frequency range comprising a plurality of frequency bands. The systems each provide communications services to a plurality of subscribers located within substantially the same geographic region. Each of the systems is assigned one or more of the network frequency bands for use as control channels. The systems then share the unassigned frequency bands to provide communications service. The systems may share the frequency bands without coordination or synchronization or, as an alternative, the sharing may be controlled by a processor.
