  • Patent number: 6633994
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for optimizing communication between buses operating at different frequencies. A high speed bus provides communication between high speed devices as well as provides communication to a lower speed bus which provides communications between low speed devices and between low speed devices and high speed devices. During transaction reset a bridge device that controls communication between the high and low speed buses determines the ratio of the respective bus clocks. The bridge device sets a logic state machine based on this data and selects from the higher frequency clock selected cycles on which transfers to the lower speed bus take place. The unused cycles of the high speed clock may then be used on the high speed bus for additional transfers. The clock ratios may be determined on each transaction reset and new data on clock ratios stored in the bridge device for subsequent operation.

  • Patent number: 6633874
Abstract: A method to serve web pages from a server linked to a network of a plurality of clients, the server coupled to a plurality of data pages and to an access log. The method begins with reading an access log to collect data identifying pages that are most frequently accessed by a plurality of clients. The pages are retrieved, at least in part, from a database server coupled to a database storage. The one or more pages are stored in a cache as identified by the access log, where each of the pages are identified in the access log with at least one category of a search criteria received from the clients. An access request is received from one or more clients for a page based upon the search criteria received from the clients. The page from cache is retrieved if the page which has been requested was previously stored in cache. On the other hand, if the page, which has been requested, was not previously stored in cache then the page is retrieved from database storage.

  • Patent number: 6633453
Abstract: In a T-head design, it is desirable to reduce the side-writing that occurs during the write operation. The side-writing causes the track width to increase and therefore reduces the track density that can be achieved. The side-writing is caused by certain corners of the T-head producing extraneous fluxes over the magnetic disk. The extraneous fluxes write to the magnetic disk, causing the track width to be increased. The present invention recesses part of the T-head from the air bearing surface by a focused ion beam milling, an ion milling, or an etching process. The extraneous fluxes are therefore recessed from the magnetic disk by a shallow distance sufficient to prevent writing to the magnetic disk, but not so great a distance to inhibit the flux carrying capacity of the structure to the actively writing pole tip.

  • Patent number: 6632536
Abstract: New etch barriers of indium-tin-oxide in the manufacturing process of thin film transistor-liquid crystal display are self-assembled monolayers, such as n-alkylsilanes. A typical process of applying a self-assembled monolayer is to ink a hydrolyzed n-octadecyltrimethoxysilane solution on to a stamp and then to transfer the solution onto ITO. The surface of the stamp may be polar enough to be wet with polar self-assembled monolayer solutions of an akylsilane. A non-polar stamp surface may be treated with oxygen plasma to obtain a wettable polar surface.

  • Patent number: 6633867
Abstract: A computer program product is provided as a session search system and associated method that provide a novel type of query referred to as “session query”. In the context of a session query, a user issues a search query using, for example, a web-based form. This query is processed immediately by the search engine, yielding search result elements that are returned within the new context of a “dynamic search result set”. As long as the user is reviewing the “dynamic search result set” of the session query, the search result is updated automatically in almost real-time, when new information arrives. When the user is no longer interested in continuing the search, the session query is terminated. The session search system generally includes two modules: A client module that presents the “dynamic search result set” to the user, and a server module that manages the current set of active session queries.

  • Patent number: 6632115
Abstract: A method for patterning an indium-tin-oxide (ITO) film by using a chemically amplified resist, causing no resist separation nor adhesion degradation even if the ITO film is exposed to white light after the resist development. An amorphous ITO film is formed on a wafer. A negative chemically amplified resist is applied directly to the ITO film, and the resist film is exposed and developed. The structure having a resist pattern on the amorphous ITO film is free from resist separation and adhesion degradation even if the resist pattern is exposed to white light, and therefore the later manufacturing steps are not adversely affected, enabling proper visual inspection. After the structure is judged to be acceptable at the visual inspection, the amorphous ITO film is etched using the resist pattern as a mask, and then the resist pattern is removed.

  • Patent number: 6631546
Abstract: A method of manufacturing includes 2 mushroom plating process starts with an overplated component which includes an enlarged mushroom head having outer portions which overhang a resist layer. The next step in the first process embodiment is a heating step in which the resist layer is hard baked. Thereafter, using a dry etch process, such as a reactive ion etch (RIE) process, the hard baked resist layer is removed in all areas except beneath the overhang of the mushroom head. The area beneath the overhang thereby remains filled with hard baked resist. Thereafter, the device is ultimately encapsulated such that no voids and/or redeposition problems exist under the overhang due to the presence of the hard baked resist. In an alternative process embodiment of the present invention the dry etch process is conducted first upon the resist layer, such that the resist layer is removed in all areas except under the overhang. Thereafter, the device is baked, such that hard baked resist remains beneath the overhang.

  • Patent number: 6633959
Abstract: A non-uniform memory access (NUMA) computer system includes a node interconnect to which a remote node and a home node are coupled. The home node contains a home system memory, and the remote node includes at least one processing unit and a cache. In response to the cache deallocating an unmodified cache line that corresponds to data resident in the home system memory, a cache controller of the cache issues a deallocate operation on a local interconnect of the remote node. In one embodiment, the deallocate operation is further transmitted to the home node via the node interconnect only in response to an indication, such as a combined response, that no other cache in the remote node caches the cache line. In response to receipt of the deallocate operation, a memory controller in the home node updates a local memory directory associated with the home system memory to indicate that the remote node does not hold a copy of the cache line.
