  • Publication number: 20130102737
Abstract: A method of producing liquid polymeric polyols from epoxidized plant oils by ring-opening polymerization without a ring opening agent in an organic solvent in the presence of a catalyst to yield the desired polyols at room temperature. The properties of the polymeric polyols depend on the type of plant oil used as starting material. Typically, polymeric content of the purified plant oil based polyols ranges from 65% to 90%. The hydroxyl value and the acid value ranges from 30 to 90 mg KOH/g sample and 1 to 14 mg KOH/g sample respectively. The average molecular weight Mn ranges from 800 Da to 16000 Da. The liquid plant oil based polymeric polyols are reacted with excess diisocyanate to produce isocyanate terminated prepolymer. Subsequently, the prepared prepolymer is reacted with diol or diamine to polyurethane and polyurea respectively.

  • Patent number: 8309145
Abstract: The present invention relates to processes for the treatment of liquors derived from oil-bearing fruit, for example from oil palm fruit, and to products therefrom. Typically a process involves removal of undissolved solids, oleaginous parts, colloids and higher weight molecules from the vegetation liquor to give an aqueous fraction containing phytochemicals, for example, flavonoids, phenolic acids and hydroxy acids. Subsequently, pH adjustment and solvent extraction upon said aqueous fraction realise an extract rich in hydroxy acids or phenolic acids or flavonoids or any combination thereof. Applications of the substances subject of this invention are to be found in drinks, edible products, tonics, health supplements, antioxidant additives, cosmetics, soaps, shampoos, detergents, drugs or medicinal products.

  • Patent number: 8263758
Abstract: The present invention discloses a promoter sequence of light-harvesting chlorophyll a/b binding protein pGWLS01 isolated from the oil palm leaf. This promoter enables the manipulation of oil palm leaves for the production of high value-added products via genetic engineering tools. The novel features of the promoter itself which regulate high and specific expression of foreign genes in the leaves will avoid the interference of novel products in the commodity oil extracted from mesocarp and kernel tissues. Furthermore, the promoter is also potentially useful in the production of insect-resistant palm.
