  • Patent number: 6170222
Abstract: An apparatus which is useful on pitched roofs includes structural features which help keep roofing materials from sliding off the roof. The apparatus also protects roofers from heat and abrasion from the roof surface on which they are working. A substantially solid foam rubber wedge forms one component of the apparatus, and a substantially planar pad forms the other component of the apparatus. These components are placed in proximity to each other so that the roofer, when situated on the pad, can readily reach roofing materials disposed against the wedge. The wedge resiliently compresses when roofing materials are placed on its upper surface. This resilient compression, the angle of orientation of the wedge's upper surface, and the frictional engagement of the wedge with the roof surface each contribute in varying degrees to holding roofing materials in position on the roof.

  • Patent number: 6125720
Abstract: A roofing material and roofing fastener removal tool. The tool comprises a handle attached to a blade. In the preferred embodiment, the handle is adjustable relative to the blade. In this embodiment, a portion of an adjustment assembly provides additional pivot points to extend the working range of the blade. The blade includes two rows of material engagement portions. The rows include large teeth and small teeth spaced evenly and regularly along the working edge of the blade. The larger teeth are thinned and rounded to facilitate insertion between roofing material and a structure, while the smaller teeth are thinned on one side only and rounded to facilitate insertion and engagement with roofing material and roofing fasteners. The teeth are separated from each other by tapered slots which are sized to engage shanks of roofing fasteners.

  • Patent number: 6113169
Abstract: A magnetic device for picking up ferrous metal debris, such as nails, screws, sheet metal fragments, staples, rivets, and other ferrous metal objects from an environmental surface such as the ground or a floor by rolling along the surface, consists of: a magnetic pickup member; a pair of wheels mounted to the magnetic pickup member and supporting the magnetic pickup member slightly above the environmental surface; a handle; a wiper for scraping ferrous metal debris from the magnetic pickup member and biased against the magnetic pickup member; and a release rope for rotating the magnetic pickup member against the wiper, thereby dislocating ferrous metal debris from the magnetic pickup member. Optionally, a hopper may be attached to the device for receiving the ferrous metal debris.

  • Patent number: 5226237
Abstract: A hand tool combination of a knife having a double edged blade for piercing and cutting duct insulation and a wire cutter swingably engaged with the knife for cutting wire embedded in the duct insulation. The hand tool includes two jaws. One jaw forms the double edged blade and includes an anvil. The other jaw includes a wire cutting edge. The jaws are drawn together to operate the wire cutter by squeezing handles engaged with the jaws. The handles are also manipulated to operate the blade.

  • Patent number: 5077899
Abstract: A blade for cutting a groove in ductboard and forming a corresponding scrap strip of ductboard. The blade includes two blade portions depending from a support member such as a hand tool with a sled for engaging the ductboard. Each of the blade portions includes an inner end which engages the other inner end to partially fix the blades relative to each other and partially restrict the blades from spreading which may be caused by the horizontal grain of ductboard.

  • Patent number: 5048575
Abstract: A tensioning and cut off tool for applying a strap to a bundle or to circular flexible air duct which is being joined to circular metal duct work. The tool includes a quick release operating mechanism to suddenly cut the strap when a predetermined force is applied to the handles of the tool, and further includes an adjustment means for adjusting the predetermined force for cutting the strap. An improved strap engaging mens is also disclosed that includes a discontinuous edge that engages the strap during the gripping and tensioning of the strap of minimizing the chances of a severing of the strap by the strap engaging means.

  • Patent number: 5040297
Abstract: The present fiberglass panel cutter includes a blade extractor tab for slightly displacing or deflecting scrap pieces of ductboard from their corresponding grooves, a blade height adjuster for controlling the depth of the groove, a blade with aligned apertures for ready removal from a blade mount, a canted handle, and a set of linear channels formed in a lower surface of the cutter for guiding the cutter in a straight line across the ductboard. The present invention further includes a knife with a blade set at a downward angle relative its handle to efficiently make cuts at an arm's length in ductboard which may measure four feet by eight feet. The present invention further includes a square that is infinitely adjustable and convertible between right and left handed orientations.

  • Patent number: 4947901
Abstract: The present invention is a tensioning and cut off tool for applying a strap having a locking collar and a free end to a bundle. It features a quick release operating mechanism that cuts the strap with a snap action in response to a certain level of tension that has been applied to the strap by the tool. It also features a resetting means for resetting the tool after the cutting action to a position where the tool can be used again. It further features a non-tension responsive cutting mechanism so that either the quick release tension related operating mechanism or the non-tension related mechanism may be selected to cut the strap.

  • Patent number: 4315361
Abstract: A duct reinforcement and a method for building the reinforcement including a special tool for use in a preferred method are disclosed. The duct reinforcement icludes a support washer on each of two opposing sides of the duct to be supported and a stiff wire extending through the sides of the ducts and both washers. The portion of the wire protruding beyond each support washer on the outside of the duct forms a hook with a tip of the wire substantially opposed to the outer face of the respective support washer. A preferred form of the support washer forms a volcano-shaped contour surrounding the washer hole on the outer face so that the tip of the wire makes contact with the washer inside the crest of the volcano-shaped contour. A preferred arrangement includes a rubbery seal between each support washer and the respective side of the duct to prevent leakage from the duct.
