Patent number: 6191544Abstract: A device for compensation of voltage drop at light sources of a vehicle has light sources having a resistance R0 and connected to a vehicle battery. An auxiliary charging device with electric motor is provided. The electric motor has an on/off switch and is connected to the vehicle battery. The electric motor is connected parallel to the light sources. A resistor is serially connected upstream of the light sources and is selected, based on the resistance R0, such that a nominal current I flowing through the light sources causes a voltage drop &Dgr;E=I×R in the resistor that matches a voltage drop occurring when the electric motor is switched on. A first switch is connected parallel to the resistor for short-circuiting the resistor when the electric motor is switched on by the on/off switch.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 1999Date of Patent: February 20, 2001Assignee: MAN Nutzfahrzeuge AGInventor: Nu{overscore (n)}zio D'Alfonso

Patent number: 6119448Abstract: In a method for metering a reducing agent into a NO.sub.x containing exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine before the exhaust gas enters the catalytic convertor having at least NO.sub.x reducing activity, a minimal heat capacity, and a minimal storage capacity for a reducing agent, the engine-specific data for NO.sub.x concentration and exhaust gas volume are determined with a reference engine. The actual exhaust gas temperature of the internal combustion engine during operation is measured by a sensor. The reducing agent amount is calculated based on the engine-specific data and the actual exhaust gas temperature. Load-specific parameter changes of the internal combustion engine during operation are detected and a dynamic correction of the reducing agent amount based on the load-specific parameter changes is performed. The corrected reducing agent amount is then supplied into the exhaust gas stream. In a variation of the inventive method, the NO.sub.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1998Date of Patent: September 19, 2000Assignee: MAN Nutzfahrzeuge AGInventors: Gerhard Emmerling, Frank Zuther, Andreas Doring

Patent number: 5377643Abstract: A cylinder head sealing device for an internal combustion engine has a cylindrical gasket ring which has a relatively small wall thickness. This gasket ring engages on the one hand an annular groove within the cylinder head which is coaxially arranged relative to the cylinder axis. On the other hand, it engages a recess at the end of the cylinder liner. The annular groove is dimensioned such that during tightening of the cylinder head screws a radial as well as an axial play remains between annular groove and gasket ring. The sealing action is achieved such that the gasket ring which has relatively thin walls relative to its height is expanded by the gas pressure within the cylinder and pressed with its outer cylindrical wall against the recess of the cylinder liner thus leading to a sealing effect. The sealing effect is thus a function of the gas pressure. The sealing with respect to cooling water is achieved by an auxiliary areal seal which is prestressed by the cylinder head screws.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 1993Date of Patent: January 3, 1995Assignee: Man Nutzfahrzeuge AGInventor: Walter Schibalsky

Patent number: 5363820Abstract: A combustion chamber shape for air-compressing, self-igniting internal combustion engines is designed such that fuel injection jets ejected from a multiport injection valve positioned on the cylinder axis do not come into contact with the walls of the combustion chamber. For this purpose, the piston bottom is conically shaped whereby the slant of the conical surface is selected such that the piston bottom is adapted to the contour of the widening injected fuel jet. The cylinder head bottom is designed as a spherical segment, also with the goal that the fuel injection jet does not come into contact with the combustion chamber walls. The conically designed piston bottom may have radially extending depressions when the combustion chamber is very small in order to achieve high compression ratios.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 1993Date of Patent: November 15, 1994Assignee: Man Nutzfahrzeuge AGInventor: Alfred Neitz

Patent number: 5327996Abstract: A central swivel joint for optimizing ground adaptation of front machinery of farm tractors has a central beam and a support beam that are rigidly connected to one another to form a constructive unitary part. A support is provided which has a friction bearing in which the support beam is supported. The friction bearing includes a floating bearing and a stationary bearing and is connected to the lubrication system of the motor of the farm tractor for lubrication purposes. The central beam can be in the form of a conventional square beam. Furthermore, the stationary bearing for receiving the axial forces that are exerted onto the central beam is freely accessible as long as the support has not been connected to the oil pan.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 1993Date of Patent: July 12, 1994Assignee: MAN Nutzfahrzeuge AGInventor: Heribert Moller
