  • Publication number: 20030075062
Abstract: A support sleeve made of a metallic material, preferably of nickel, is provided at at least one longitudinal end with a chamfer running all around in the inner circumference. This prevents damage to a film-like coating or thin intermediate sleeve, which surrounds the cylinder core to which the sleeve is fitted. A device for chamfering and deburring the longitudinal ends of the sleeve include a supporting body having a cylindrical journal with a diameter only slightly smaller than the internal diameter of the sleeve to be machined, in order to accommodate a longitudinal end of the sleeve and to guide the cut. A cutting holder is machined on the supporting body by means of which holder a cutter can be brought up to the inner circumference of the longitudinal end of the sleeve to be machined, and the supporting body can be rotated relative to the sleeve to be machined and pushed onto the journal.

  • Patent number: 6543352
Abstract: A printing unit for a web fed rotary printing machine is provided including a machine frame support, two sets of printing unit cylinders, carriages, drive motors and guide elements. The two sets of printing unit cylinders, include a plurality of outer printing unit cylinders and a plurality of inner printing unit cylinders. Each carriage corresponds to one printing unit cylinder for rotatably mounting its corresponding printing unit cylinder on the machine frame support. There is a drive motor for each carriage. Two sets of guide elements are arranged on the machine frame for determining a travel setting of the plurality of carriages along the machine frame support. The guide elements for the outer cylinders are arranged on the frame support in an orientation different than the guide elements for the inner cylinders so that movement of the outer printing unit cylinders is in a different direction than movement of the inner printing unit cylinders.

  • Patent number: 6535279
Abstract: A measurement device is described for the quality control of printed products, having a pair of optical channels that differ in their properties and operate simultaneously. Each optical channel comprises an illumination channel for illuminating a measurement location and a reflection channel that picks up the light reflected from the measurement location. The reflected light is directed to an evaluation unit, which is connected to the reflection channel, that analyzes the reflected radiation spectrally. Polarization filters arranged in one of the pairs of channels provides the difference in the optical properties between the two pairs of channels. The measuring device provides an increased number of obtainable measured values for further processing in a way that requires only a modest increase in the metrological outlay compared to other measuring devices of this type.

  • Publication number: 20030041764
Abstract: The image subject to be transferred is applied in preformatted form to at least two printing formes in the form of segment-like image data in a row and column arrangement, in such a way that a first portion of information from each segment of the image subject (information (a) with appropriate index features) is provided on a first printing forme, and a second portion of information from the corresponding segment of the image subject (information (b) with appropriate index features) is provided on a second printing forme. As a result of synchronous rolling of the printing-forme cylinders, the portions of information are assembled to form complete information (<a,b> with the respectively combined index features) for each segment of the image subject on the printed page.

  • Patent number: 6523469
Abstract: A device for metering and equalizing an ink layer on the surface of a printing machine roller, in particular on the surface of an ink applicator roller in the inking unit of a printing machine, the surface being additionally wetted with dampening medium. The device contains at least two doctor blades which are arranged preferably at a short distance one behind the other in the direction of rotation of the roller and rest under pressure against the surface of the roller and of which a front doctor blade, with respect to the direction of rotation of the roller, has a doctor blade edge radius such that essentially only the dampening medium, but not the ink layer, can be wiped off from the surface of the roller by said front doctor blade, while a rear doctor blade, with respect to the direction of rotation of the roller, has, by comparison, a smaller doctor blade edge radius such that at least part of the ink layer which has remained on the surface of the roller can be wiped off.

  • Patent number: 6520083
Abstract: An apparatus for producing printing plates on a supporting cylinder is provided. Mountings arranged on a frame accommodate a blank printing plate arranged on a supporting cylinder. The supporting cylinder is driven by a motor. The apparatus allows the supporting cylinder to be exposed at an end opposite the motor by its journal together with the mounting accommodating the journal. Thus, the supporting cylinder is capable of being moved away from the frame at one end, which makes it possible to draw the printing plate axially off the supporting cylinder. The apparatus can be used to produce a variety of printing plates, including: a relief printing plate, an offset printing plate, a sleeve-like printing plate, and a gravure printing plate.

  • Patent number: 6522422
Abstract: A computer controlled sheet-fed offset printing machine is described which includes an Interpreter-program for obtaining an image of the signal-state of specified interfaces of the many interfaces that are needed for the operation of the computerized printing press. The Interpreter-program has access to a reserved region of memory for storing and manipulating, if desired, the image of the signal-state. Furthermore, the Interpreter-program has very limited and defined access to the inputs and resources used by the control programs used to operate the computerized printing press. This ensures that the control programs can execute in real-time unaffected by the execution of the Interpreter-program while data is acquired by the Interpreter-program while the computerized printing press is in operation. The Interpreter-program can execute diagnostic routines and provide data for detecting and correcting errors that are otherwise hard to localize in a complex system with complex software.

  • Patent number: 6514623
Abstract: A wear-resistant, ink-repellent coating, for printing-press components, and in particular, web-fed printing presses. In order to provide a seal for this low-wear coating which results in a permanent ink-repellent surface quality and which additionally has a high resistance to standard cleaning agents used in printing technology, the printing-press component which is to be protected is first provided with oxide ceramic or hard metal layer. This layer may be applied by thermal spraying. In addition, the component is treated with a polyorganosiloxane sealant, particularly polyhydridomethylsiloxane, including the necessary heat-curing at moderate temperatures of from 100° C. to 170° C. so as to prevent ink deposition. The sealing may also take place after the wear-resistant layer has undergone a grinding and polishing treatment.

  • Publication number: 20030005836
Abstract: The printing-material web is guided in the same position and plane when the transfer cylinders are moved apart for the flying printing-plate change, so that contact between the web and the transfer cylinders and smearing are avoided, that is to say undesired contact with ink-carrying parts. When the transfer cylinders are moved apart, web-guiding elements at the web inlet and/or web outlet support the printing-material web on both sides during the plate or sleeve change by supporting elements which are narrow or act at points and can be displaced transversely with respect to the printing-material web. The printing-material web continues to be guided in the same position and plane, and smearing is avoided.
