Abstract: An apparatus for preventing backlash in a gear train in a printing machine includes a shaft arranged on the printing machine and gearwheels with at least one gearwheel being arranged on the shaft for driving the shaft, and a brake having adjustable braking power, the brake being arranged on the shaft in a direction of drive of the gear train.
Abstract: A printing unit for a rotary printing machine with reversible image setting and digital changeover by means of thermal transfer, having an image-setting unit, an erasing or cleaning component and at least one inking unit. In order to achieve further cost advantages and miniaturization for such a printing unit, in particular for use in small edition color printing (digital offset press), the form cylinder and blanket cylinder are combined into one cylinder. In order to produce the reversible setting of an image (form production), this cylinder is provided with a hydrophilic surface and interacts directly with an impression cylinder in order to print on a substrate. The image-setting unit and erasing or cleaning component and inking unit are set against this cylinder.
Abstract: Inking unit rolls include at least one ink applicator roll, which rotates in an ink fountain filled with printing ink and picks up printing ink from the latter, and a plate cylinder, which serves as a printing plate carrier and onto which ink can be transferred, directly or indirectly, by the ink applicator roll. The short inking unit is therefore equipped with a small number of inking unit rolls and, at the same time, nevertheless ensures a uniform, homogeneous application of ink to the plate cylinder, that is to say the ink splitting on ink-carrying rolls of a short inking unit for a rotary printing machine is improved. At least one of the inking unit rolls is provided, at least on its surface, with a coating having powerful microdipoles, in particular made of ferroelectric material.
Abstract: A cylinder of a rotary printing machine has cylinder parts that can be driven and rotated independently of one another. The cylinder parts each have a drive connection to an electric motor and can be driven independently of one another.

Abstract: A rubber cylinder sleeve for web-fed rotary offset printing machines has a covering layer which is a finite layer having a joint location, the joint location being filled with a compressible material.
Abstract: In a device for changing a sheet stack in a sheet feeder, remaining-stack bars (7A, 7B) of different thicknesses are used to improve operation. Upon combination of a remaining-stack (H) with a H. sheet-stack (S), they are placed in graduations on a pallet (P) and successively pulled from the stack area.
Abstract: A method of varying the ink density of the full tone in printing within a rotary printing machine with an ink application system which can provide a constant quantity of ink which, in spite of constant ink supply from the inking unit, permits control of the full-tone density or adaptation of the raster tonal values in the print. The method includes setting the binary image on a printing plate. A basic raster of raster points, which determines the area coverage of the binary image, is produced on the printing plate for the variable-area image information. The basic raster is then superimposed on a fine microraster in such way that the area coverage of the basic raster is reduced by a percentage which can be set between 0% and 100%.
Abstract: Apparatus includes a housing, a feed table outside the housing for receiving a plate-like blank, a round shaping device in the housing for shaping the blank into a sleeve-like printing forme, a welding system, and a transport device for fixing, transporting and depositing the blank aligned level on the shaping device. The transport device includes a plate suction frame penetrated by suction elements which make contact with the blank placed on the feed table. After contact has been made, the blank is fixed by activating the suction elements on the plate suction frame so as to be aligned level, and transported in a stable position to the round shaping device. The raw forme is deposited on the round shaping device so as to be aligned level and fixed in-register.

Abstract: A nine-cylinder satellite printing unit includes printing stations having a first, second, third and fourth transfer cylinder which a web passes through. The transfer cylinders are capable of being stopped when the printing assembly is switched off. A distance between each of the first and second transfer cylinders, the second and third transfer cylinders, and the third and fourth transfer cylinder is shorter than the distance between the first and fourth transfer cylinder. A guide roller keeps a supplied portion of the web away from the first transfer cylinder and another guide roller keeps a discharged portion web away from the fourth transfer cylinder when the first and fourth printing cylinders are respectively in print thrown-off positions.

Abstract: An apparatus for changing flexible printing plates on a plate cylinder of printing machines having a simple, compact and space-saving construction is provided. The apparatus includes two magazines arranged beside each other, to hold the printing plates to be inserted and removed. A transporting arrangement pivotably mounted on a shaft is beside the magazines. A holding arrangement which is on the transporting means is used both to grip and guide a printing plate to be inserted and to grip and guide a printing plate to be removed. The magazines and the transporting arrangement are mounted in a frame that can be pivoted towards and away from the plate cylinder. The invention further relates to a method of changing flexible printing plates on a plate cylinder of a printing machine.
Abstract: A device for fastening flexible printing plates to a plate cylinder of rotary printing machines is provided. The plate cylinder has a channel, a channel gap, and a bore. The channel accommodates bent ends of the printing plate. The bore in the channel is axially parallel to the plate cylinder. Two segmented shafts are arranged pivotally in the bore and have leaf springs which are fastened to the segmented shafts. The leaf springs can be brought into contact with the ends inserted into the channel. The channel has at least one lateral recess or cut out in an area which connects the bore radially to a channel gap on the periphery of the plate cylinder, and is at a distance form the channel gap. The end of the printing plate which is bent approximately at a right angle, is provided with a shaped element projecting in the direction of recesses in the channel. The shaped element of the end inserted into the channel can be moved into the recess by bringing the leaf springs into pressure contact with the bent end.
Abstract: In order to provide, for rotating printing forms consisting of a material into which it is possible to inject energy effectively, that is to say which has high ohmic resistance and is magnetic, a device for thermal energy injection, in which hot gas does not have to be used and by means of which energy injection capable of being controlled with high accuracy in terms of time is possible, there is provided for carrying out the fixing operation means for the inductive fixing of the image information on the rotating printing form.
Abstract: An apparatus is described for the densitometric measurement of printed products such as sheets printed by sheet-fed offset printing machines, having a densitometer measuring head. The head moves along a measurement strip comprising a number of measurement fields and generates signals that are converted into ink density values in a downstream evaluation unit, which is assigned to ink metering zones. The evaluation unit comprising a computer that contains stored information about the arrangement of the measurement fields of the printed colors in each metering zone. The ink density values from one measurement field are compared with the ink density values from neighboring measurement fields of the same color and type in accordance with the known structure of the measurement strip. The invention provides for the simple and fail-safe arrangement of the measurement-field colors in the individual ink metering zones.
Abstract: A feed assembly is provided which feeds a pressure medium to a cylinder and fixes the cylinder in position, independently of whether or not the pressure medium to be connected is supplied. A feed part can be placed on a feed opening of the cylinder by an actuating element which can be controlled independently of any control of the pressure medium. An outlet of the feed part and the feed opening engage one another and lock the cylinder against rotation.
Abstract: A paddle-wheel deliverer for a web-fed rotary printing machine is driven by its own, position-controlled motor so that the deliverer can be set up cost-effectively and the products are transferred reliably into the paddle wheel.
