Abstract: The present invention concerns measures for the space-optimized determination of printing-related measured values. With the aid of a tone value and/or color gradient in a control patch and a suitable measuring device, it is possible to obtain, in a smaller amount of space, adequate or even detailed information about the printing process. Correcting values necessary for the automatic control of the printing operation can be determined on the basis of the information thus obtained, which can be also be continuously acquired due to the space-optimized tone value and/or color gradients.

Abstract: An arrangement for synchronizing printing presses and additional components, in which arrangement a printing press and/or an additional component form/forms a unit and are/is connected to further units, and the drives of the connected units are synchronized, the units having either AC drives and/or DC drives and being synchronized internally via synchronism regulators in the case of an AC drive and via at least one drive shaft in the case of a DC drive. For the synchronization of the units which are to be connected, at least one additional synchronism regulator is attached to at least one unit, all synchronism regulators of all units being connected to one another and being adapted to a setpoint value of the connected units.
Abstract: A printing cylinder for a rotary web press to which at least one printing form is attached and a method for operating a rotary web press is disclosed. The printing cylinder is built up of at least one cylinder core and an adapter sleeve installed thereon, wherein the adapter sleeve is configured in such a way that either printing forms in the shape of sleeves or printing plates can be attached thereto before the printing process, depending on the size of the print run.
Abstract: A folding drum and method of operation is disclosed. The folding drum is used for folding material, in particular for a printing press. The folding drum is mounted rotatably on its longitudinal axle. The folding drum has a folding-blade spindle, the longitudinal axle of which is coupled to the longitudinal axle of the folding drum and is spaced apart from the longitudinal axle of the folding drum. Furthermore, the folding drum comprises a force generation means for generating a relief force which is opposed to a centrifugal force which is generated in the case of a rotating folding drum by the co-rotating folding-blade spindle. Thus, the disadvantageous influence of the centrifugal force can be reduced. As a result, in particular, a mounting of the folding-blade spindle can be relieved. The wear of the mounting can be reduced and its service life can be increased.
Abstract: A method of producing a printing plate on a cylindrical printing-plate carrier includes subdividing the printing-plate carrier by computation in terms of its width and axial length into at least two circumferential subareas. Then an actual transfer characteristic curve for each subarea is determined and compared by computation with a predetermined desired printing characteristic curve for each subarea to find a deviation. The method further includes calculating a correction to compensate for each deviation; receiving a digital image data in a first data format using a raster image processor; converting the digital image data into machine-specific image data including the position and the tonal value in the form of a bitmap; applying the correction for a predetermined desired printing characteristic curve for the edition print to the machine-specific image data using the raster image processor; and supplying the corrected machine-specific image data to an imagesetting unit.
Abstract: A printing press having an apparatus for determining the product thickness of a folded product which is fed to folding rolls for making a fold known as the third fold. The apparatus has measuring heads that are arranged on both sides of a folding roll bearing levers. For the purpose of presetting, the product to be folded is introduced slowly between folding rolls. The position of the folding rolls is determined, and a setting signal is generated therefrom and supplied to an actuating motor via a machine presetting means. The actuating motor sets the position of the folding roll levers, such that the folding rolls can be set relative to one another with regard to their mutual spacing, in accordance with the thickness of the folded product.
