Abstract: A hollow cylindrical filter element for a liquid filter is flowed through in radial direction from an exterior of the filter element to an interior of the filter element by a fluid to be filtered. The fluid after filtration is drained from the interior of the filter element in an axial direction of the filter element. The filter element has a closure tube arranged in the interior of the filter element. The closure tube has a diameter that is smaller than a diameter of the interior of the filter element. The closure tube has a fluid-tight wall and the fluid after filtration is drained in the axial direction through the closure tube.
