  • Patent number: 6067501
Abstract: A process for selecting traffic information received by or to be sent from a vehicle, whereby the selection is carried out in the vehicle in dependence on a type of road on which the vehicle is travelling at a given moment. The process including carrying out at the vehicle a segment-by-segment determination of a geometric route of the vehicle, whereby information on a particular segment of the geometric route includes at least relative positions of a starting and ending points of the segment, comparing the segment of the route to characteristic geometric parameters of road types, and, from this comparison, determining the road type currently being travelled and using the road type as a selection criterion.

  • Patent number: 6062295
Abstract: A device for withdrawing a strand, especially a metal strand, from a continuous casting mold, includes drivable rollers that are located on opposite sides of the strand and are rotatably mounted on both sides in chocks. For adjustment to the strand cross-section, the rollers, with their chocks, can be moved toward and away from each other in a housing frame, and can be pressed against the strand surface in a force-operated or pressure-medium-operated fashion. Each chock of the first roller is connected via a tension member to a positioning device run in the guide of a clamping unit. Drives of the positioning unit are connected to chocks of the second roller to move the second roller toward or away from the first roller, the second roller being arranged between the positioning device and the first roller.

  • Patent number: 6058849
Abstract: A traveling mechanism for a lifting device, especially for a lifting device having a laterally cantilevering boom, is movable on rails with at least two running wheels. A connection element for attaching a load to said traveling mechanism is supported in the rail by the running wheels which are arranged on both sides of the connection element. The connection element has, at the region projecting down out of the rail, at least one running roller which is freely rotatable about a horizontal axis and rolls on a horizontal outer running surface of the rail. To effectively divert horizontal forces and uniformly distribute the vertical forces to the running wheels, running wheel axles are rigidly connected with a running wheel carrier, and the running wheel carrier and connection element are swivelably connected by a universal type joint. In addition, at least one support roller is rotatably mounted at the connection element in the interior of the rail.

  • Patent number: 6050198
Abstract: A travelling mechanism for a rail-movable lifting device includes a carrier with running wheels which roll on a longitudinally extending running surface of a rail. A double lever is pivotally mounted on the carrier. A drivable friction wheel that is positionable on a longitudinally extending friction surface of the rail is rotatably mounted on the double lever. An opposing side of the double lever supports the lifting device, whereby the double lever presses the friction wheel against the friction surface of the rail by a force under the weight of the lifting device.

  • Patent number: 6042425
Abstract: A relatively simple assembly and an economical manufacture for the electrical connection of electrical elements arranged in a group, especially electromagnets of valve units, using a multiple-pin electrical bridge connection in which the electrical connection proceeds from contacts of a plug on the input side to contacts of a socket on the output side. The socket is constructed so as to complement the plug. A two-pin or two-pole connection is preferably disposed on the external surface of the electrical bridge connection for connecting electrical elements. All of the electrical connections in the connection element extend three-dimensionally in the form of conductor paths. The connection element (1) is constructed in one piece comprising a plug (2) that forms a first portion, a socket (3) that forms a second portion and a base (4) disposed between the first and second portions and through which the conductor paths are guided.

  • Patent number: 6042193
Abstract: A welded vehicle wheel includes a center or wheel disc and a rim. The center has a side wall area at an outermost circumference of the wheel disc having an increasing diameter toward an inner side of the welded vehicle wheel. A substantially axially disposed circumferential portion is connected to the inner end of the side wall area. The rim includes a bed region with a decreasing diameter toward the outer side of the welded vehicle wheel. In the assembled state, the rim is connected to the center by a press fit between the outer side of the circumferential portion and the bed region and by a welded seam between the free-end of the circumferential portion and the bed region. The press fit and welded seam form a space therebetween that is circumferentially continuous and expands in cross-section toward the inner side of the welded vehicle wheel.

  • Patent number: 6023831
Abstract: Disclosed is a process and apparatus for producing metal-sheathed strands, especially glass fiber cables, from a metal strip that is first formed into a U-shaped profile and then, after the placement therein of a non-ductile or slightly ductile core material, is closed to form a split tube carrying and/or protecting the core material, which split tube, after the welding of its longitudinal seam, is reduced in a subsequent deformation step. In the process of the invention, the metal-sheathed strand with the welded longitudinal seam is cold-formed in a stretch-reducing fashion in multiple continuous sequential steps. In the apparatus for implementing the process, multiple speed-controlled roll stands of a stretch-reducing cold rolling mill with declining caliber cross-sections are arranged one behind the other directly after the longitudinal seam welding machine for the split tube for the reductive deformation of the metal sheath.

  • Patent number: 6021718
Abstract: A two-axle undercarriage for track-bound transport systems carrying freight and passenger traffic, especially for inseparable train units, is divided into two parts, each part housing a wheel set. The two undercarriage frame halves are connected to each other in an adjustably articulated fashion on the plane of travel and are axially movable relative to each other to a limited extent in the direction of travel. To provide a tensilely-strong connection of two adjacent car bodies of the track-bound transport system, a connecting rod is used that permits adjustment of the undercarriage frame halves. The connecting rod is arranged between the adjacent car bodies so that cardanic movement is permitted between each of the two adjacent car bodies so that cardanic movement is permitted between each of the two adjacent car bodies and the connecting rod.

  • Patent number: 5992913
Abstract: The invention is directed to a running wheel for traveling units which are movable on rails, especially for traveling cranes. The running wheel includes an outer running ring, a resilient damping hub inserted in central opening of the running ring. The hub transmits torque received from a drive shaft to the running ring. The resilient damping hub effectively intercepts occurring torque peaks forward of the gear unit and drive shaft, by elastically deforming while maintaining a connection at the central opening of the running ring without play.

  • Patent number: 5992501
Abstract: An inversion casting vessel includes a melt-filled container with a hole in the floor through which a metal strip is drawn. As the strip is drawn through the container, crystallization of the melt on the metal strip occurs, thereby forming a metal strand. The hole in the floor is a slit shaped channel through which the strip is run in a low-contact manner. The container also includes a cooling device for cooling the melt in the area of the slit shaped channel. The cooling device maintains the temperature of the melt around the channel to create a two-phase field of the melt, one of the phases being crystal, making up 50%-90% of the two phase field. The metal strip first contacts the melt at the two-phase field of the melt as the strip is run through the melt container.
