Abstract: An arrangement, for the drive of a sheet conveyor connected to a sheet processing machine, facilitates the uniform movement of sheets to a pick-up station and the non-uniform movement of the sheets accumulated thereat to a discharge station. The arrangement includes a planetary gear train having first and second planetary gear drives which are interconnected and are counter-rotated, and a flywheel mass modulates the accelerated and decelerated drive which is provided for conveying the sheets from the pick-up to the discharge stations.

Abstract: A folding apparatus for the zigzag folding of a web includes an oscillating multi-section guide channel device comprising upper and lower funnels pivotally interconnected and a pair of web drawing rolls located in the immediate vicinity of the pivot axis about which the funnels are connected. The lower and upper ends of the walls of the respective funnels lie on opposite sides of the drawing rolls, and at least one of the ends of one of such walls is spaced from the rolls in the direction of web movement for defining at least one opening in the vicinity of such pivot axis for the entry of air into at least one funnel. The proximity of the rollers to the pivot axis and the contoured light weight metal walls reduce inertia forces during oscillating movement of the device and the migration of air with the web facilitate running of the web through the device so as to increase the operating speed of the folding apparatus.

Abstract: A winding machine for winding up into rewind rolls a plurality of strips cut from an elongated web includes contact drums respectively bearing against the rewind rolls, the contact drums being independently arranged for independently exerting pressure against their rewind rolls for independently maintaining the necessary gap values between them and the periphery of the main drum about which the strips are partially looped upon entering the machine. Detecting devices associated with pairs of support arms provided for the contact drum operate a motor associated with each of the support arm pairs for each rewind roll for simultaneously rotating a pair of spindles on the support arms so as to pivot them away from the centerline of the machine when the extent of the aforementioned gap at each contact drum is reduced below a desired minimum.

Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for use with machine processing equipment for processing a continuous moving web having markings representing repeat lengths applied thereto during a prior web pass through the machine. The apparatus insures registry of the web between passes through the machine as it is capable of varying web tension maintained downstream and upstream of a web draw mechanism in accordance with the changes in speed and elongation of the web prior to entering the machine.

Abstract: A device for controlling the actuation of gripping means provided in a sheet assembling apparatus includes stationary and rotatable cam plates each having different and predetermined profiles, the rotatable cam plate being mounted eccentrically relative to the axis of the sheet collecting cylinder provided for the apparatus. The gripping means includes a follower roll in rolling engagement with the peripheral edge of the stationary cam plate to effect actuation of gripping fingers. The rotatable cam plate rotates together with the cylinder although it is capable of being shifted relative thereto about the cylinder axis whereby to prevent actuation of the gripping means as the follower roll engages at least one portion of the rotatable cam plate which may be shifted to overlie a cam portion of the stationary cam plate.

Abstract: A folding apparatus for the zigzag folding of a web includes at least one reciprocating channel guide through which the web passes, the channel being engageable with the apparatus at a selected and changeable pivot point to thereby effect an adjustment of the amplitude of the channel for the folding of differently sized web sections. A pair of pivotally connected channels is alternatively provided, the upper and lower ones of which also being engageable with the apparatus at a selected and changeable pivot point.

Abstract: An apparatus and corresponding process is provided for the transfer of a roll from the roll-up location of a rewinding machine to a storage location thereof. The transfer apparatus applies pressure against the circumference of the roll at its roll-up location for pressing the roll against its base while transferring the roll at a predetermined speed to the storage location.

Abstract: A machine for rewinding a plurality of strips longitudinally cut from a continuous web includes feed drums associated with each roll of the wound strips, and mounting means for the rolls and the drums which are together shiftable along an axis parallel to the drum axis in such a manner as to permit drums of various axial dimensions to be mounted by the drum mounting means so as to accommodate rolls respectively having various axial dimensions. Alternatively, the drum and roll mounting means are disposed for shifting relative to each other along such axis to permit the mounting of both drums and rolls of different axial dimensions.

Abstract: In a web processing machine wherein a continuous web is fed over idler rollers so as to form a web loop at which the web passes over a sensing roller mounted on rod members for pivotal movement toward and away from the idler rollers, a web tension control means includes a brake device controlled by movement of the sensing roller for maintaining a predetermined tension in the web, a pair of piston and cylinder units connected between the rod members and the machine, the chambers between these units on opposite sides of the pistons thereof being so interconnected with each other and with a fluid pressure supply line as to render the dampening effect of the units dependent on a particular position of the sensing roller.
