  • Patent number: 7354540
Abstract: A method for manufacturing fiber-reinforced moldings in a resin mat apparatus. The manufacturing procedure is performed in a continuous manner of operation from the mixing of the components of the resin mixture to the procedure of pressing a molding. The apparatus includes a controlled-temperature, continuous thickening unit for a time-prescribed maturation process of the endless resin mat. Endless belts carry the endless resin mat in a meander or serpentine path through the continuous thickening unit, maintaining the resin mat between the belts in the thickening unit until the resin mat has matured or aged to an appropriate plasticity for an immediately following direct conversion to moldings in a heated molding press. In one preferred embodiment, there are no plastic films interposed between the belts and the resin mixture.

  • Patent number: 7353934
Abstract: A method for picking up a plastic product lying on a conveyor belt, especially a tacky plastic product, for transport and for deposit in a mold in a molding press. The plastic product is picked up by one or more resilient carrier plates setting themselves resiliently on the longitudinal margins of the conveyor belt, and slipping between the product and the belt surface. An the apparatus for the practice of the method includes transversely movable carrier plates with which the plastic product is lifted by sliding under its lateral margins and is thereby picked up.

  • Patent number: 7004300
Abstract: An apparatus for longitudinally orienting pre-glued elongated wood strands for forming OSB panels includes a spreading head with disc rolls that each have discs arranged parallel to one another on a rotatable shaft arranged over a forming belt. The discs of a given disc roll intermesh overlappingly in the interspaces between the discs of the adjacent disc rolls, to form vertical orienting passages between the intermeshing discs. The shaft or the individual discs of at least one of the disc rolls is/are slidably adjustable in the axial direction of the shaft, to adjust the axial width of the orienting passages. In a method of operating the apparatus, the width of the orienting passages is adjusted depending on the dimensions, the dimensional variation or tolerance, and/or the throughput quantity of the supplied strand material. Thereby, the throughput quantity and the longitudinal orienting of the strands can be optimized, depending on the particular strand material.

  • Publication number: 20030221937
Abstract: An apparatus for longitudinally orienting elongated particles, such as wood strands for forming orienting strand board panels, includes a pre-orienting unit with vertically arranged orienting elements, such as discs of a disc roll, a final orienting unit below the pre-orienting unit, and a forming belt below the final orienting unit. The final orienting unit includes plural sheetmetal chutes that are spaced successively along the transport direction of the forming belt and that each include plural side-by-side trough-shaped orienting channels that slope at a slope angle toward the forming belt along the transport direction. The non-oriented wood strands supplied to the pre-orienting unit are pre-oriented by falling through passages thereof, and the pre-oriented strands are then further longitudinally oriented as they slide longitudinally along the orienting channels, from which they slide without free-falling onto the forming belt. In an alternative embodiment, the pre-orienting unit can be omitted.

  • Patent number: 6599456
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for the production of boards of ligneous material in which a mat is formed of pressed material treated with a binding agent. The mat moves continuously away from a spreading station and after introduction between the steel bands of a continuously operating hot press is cured to form a board strand by the application of pressure and heat. Immediately after leaving the hot press the hot board strand is exposed to a cooling apparatus. In this invention the two surfaces of the hot board strand are abruptly quenched and moistened with a water spray in a first cooling section which contains an evaporation zone and which is variable in length and adaptable to the thickness of the strand. The board strand is held under the pressure of multiple calendar rolls, and in a directly adjoining second cooling section, it is guided with light specific pressure through a double-belt hold-down apparatus in which the backs of the hold-down belts are sprayed with an appropriate coolant as it passes.

Abstract: A device (12) serves as a means for testing a mat (11) moved in one direction (7) and made of biomass particles for manufacturing boards, more specifically in a double band press. On one side of the mat (11), radiation sources (33, 35) are positioned with a transversely spaced-apart relationship (30) transverse to the direction of motion (7). On the other side of the mat (11), a line (34, 36) of detector elements (44, 44′, 51) is arranged beneath each of the radiation sources (33, 35), a fan-shaped beam (37) impinging on said detector elements. The beam passes either only through one standard body (43) or only through the mat (11) or through neither the standard body nor the mat and is received by the detector elements and converted into electrical output signals.

  • Patent number: 6565780
Abstract: A method is provided for making ligneous material boards into an endless board strand with a continuously operating press. The press includes two flexible endless steel belts which take the press material between them and carry it through the press. The steel belts thrust with friction-reducing elements against heated press plates of the press table and press ram and a cooling system that follows. The cooling system is configured as a double-belt holding apparatus with an applicable holding pressure up to a maximum of 0 to 0.05 N/mm2. A diagonal sawing apparatus, which is disposed directly behind the continuously operating press and ahead of the cooling system, divides the board strand into single boards. Several rows of coolant spray nozzles disposed on the backs of the holding belts making contact with the single boards.

  • Patent number: 6502326
Abstract: A method and apparatus for reducing the moisture content bound by capillarity in fiber cells of solid materials containing carbon. The material is ground and screened to form a loose sheet of the solid materials and/or sludges. The material is processed by screening and grinding methods for a plurality of hoppers for different grain sizes and grain size distributions. A thin layer of fines is spread as a first layer onto the spreading, feeding and filter belt, and a substantially thicker coarse material layer is formed as a second layer to form a sandwich of the material. The fines layer depth HF and coarse material depth HG of the sandwich correspond to the consistency and the proportion of the fines of the material. The sandwich formed is then carried by a belt into the pressure chamber of the filter press according to the dewatering cycle, while simultaneously the squeezed-out dry material is carried away.

  • Patent number: 6499232
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for reducing the moisture content bound by capillary action in fiber cells. To include fine material economically and easily in the process, coarse material is sandwiched on top of fine material and then pressed and dried. The material prepared by grinding and screening is transferred as coarse material to a first spreader hopper, and the screened fine material is transferred over a chute and conveyor belt to a second spreader hopper. The fine material is spread in a thin layer through a vertically adjustable gate from the second spreader hopper onto a spreading, loading and filtering belt, and the coarse material is withdrawn on a transfer conveyor belt running below the first spreader hopper and then is spread through a vertically adjustable gate onto the fine layer, to form a sandwich-like mat.

  • Patent number: 6464914
Abstract: The invention relates to a process and an installation for the production of pressed-stock boards in a continuous sequence. The invention includes forming and transporting the mat of pressed stock on the molding and charging belt in a space bounded at the longitudinal sides. Two upright side supporting bands on the molding and charging belt run along and guide the pressed stock or the mat of pressed stock in such a way as to limit its width from the scattering station up to compaction in the prepress. The height of these side supporting bands correspond to the changing height of the press nip. The installation includes two side supporting bands arranged upright on the molding and charging belt, on both longitudinal sides. Supporting rollers bear against the side supporting bands in the region from the scattering station up to the prepress.
