  • Patent number: 5907806
Abstract: A microcellular communication system which broadcasts its local channel block, comprising the control channels allotted from a total channel block to the microcellular system, on all control channels being used by the said system. A mobile unit seeking access to the microcellular system initially searches the total channel block in an effort to receive the local channel block information broadcast by the microcellular system. The mobile unit compares received local channel block information with stored total channel block information and replaces its memory content with the newly received information. Periodic searching of stored channel block information is conducted to verify that the mobile unit has the relevant channel block information for the local microcellular system.

Abstract: A noise suppression apparatus and method for recorded luminance signals in which a level of an FM signal from the recording medium is detected, and the level of the recovered chroma signal is detected, the luminance signal is bandpass filtered and limited. A subtraction signal is generated based on the filtered and limited luminance signal and having magnitude based on the detected level of at least one of the chroma signal and the FM signal. The subtraction signal is subtracted from the luminance signal to generate a noise suppressed luminance signal. The passband of the bandpass filter may be varied based on at least one of the chroma signal and the FM signal.

  • Patent number: 5598416
Abstract: In case the number of usable channels is insufficient when a data communication system transmits information by using a plurality of channels, an information transmission rate reduction detector circuit included in a terminal interface circuit requests a terminal to reduce an information transmission rate and thereby reduce the probability of call blockage of the terminal. Also, in case the number of usable channels is insufficient at the time of hand over, hand over failure of the data communication system is reduced by lowering the information transmission rate of the terminal.

  • Patent number: 5490145
Abstract: The invention provides a communication network system which permits parallel access of a plurality of nodes to a transmission line and which has a high throughput and low delay, with fairness among the nodes maintained. In the communication network system, a plurality of tokens correspondingly associated with the nodes, respectively, are allowed to circulate on the transmission line. Each node is allowed to transmit data only when the frame insertion buffer is empty. The node, when having data to be transmitted, awaits the arrival of a token. If a token that has arrived corresponds to the self node, or if a node corresponding to the arrived token is downstream of the destination node as viewed from the own self node, the node forms a packet from its holding data and transmits it onto the transmission line.

  • Patent number: 5119363
Abstract: In an optical recording disk having groove-like guide tracks, a rotation index mark is provided to indicate a rotation starting point where the rotation index mark is constructed of a grooved-like phase structure. The rotation index mark may be formed in a track which is located separated from the information recording tracks, and may be detected optically without using a laser light beam. The rotation index mark is used to control the rotation of the disk as well as writing and reading operation of an optical disk recording/reproducing apparatus so that various information, such as video signals, can be accurately recorded and reproduced. In the case of recording digital signals, the guide tracks may be divided into a plurality of sector regions, and sector index marks corresponding to respective sector regions may also be formed together with the rotation index mark. Furthermore, an address index mark indicative of the position of track address region radially formed in the guide tracks may also be added.

  • Patent number: 4888633
Abstract: A charge transfer device comprising a semiconductor body including a first conductivity type region and a second conductivity region which defines a charge transfer channel below a major surface of the semiconductor body. An insulative layer is provided on the major surface. A plurality of electrodes is attached to the insulative layer to produce potential wells in response to application of different potentials thereto with respect to a common electrode attached to the opposite surface of the semiconductor body. The n-type conductivity charge transfer channel includes a center section of lower impurity concentration and a peripheral section of higher impurity concentration which substantially eliminates the undesirable lateral field effect which would otherwise occur in an area adjacent to the boundary with the first conductivity region.

  • Patent number: 4745509
Abstract: In a magnetic head of perpendicular magnetization type having main and sub magnetic poles arranged at both sides of a recording medium, a nonmagnetic supporter holding a high permeability magnetic thin layer of the main magnetic pole is formed by a polycrystalline sintered body substantially composed of titanium carbide and alumina. This polycrystalline sintered product well matches with a recording medium having a cobalt-chromium alloy layer so that the recording medium does not wear for a long time of use, and therefore, so that the contact surface of the main magnetic pole is hardly damaged. The same sintered body may also be used for the sub magnetic pole arranged to be in contact with the recording medium. Some structural improvements are also provided so that undesirable influence due to an adhesive layer adjacent to the magnetic thin layer is removed. One or more additional thin layers may be provided for reducing crosstalk between adjacent tracks.

  • Patent number: 4689780
Abstract: A light beam emitted from a semiconductor laser passes through optical elements which include a condenser lens, a magnifier prism, and a focussing lens to obtain a substantially circular spot of light on a disc. The magnifier prism is constructed such that only the narrower cross-section of the elliptical light beam emitted from the condenser lens is magnified by the incidence surface of the magnifier prism to obtain a substantially circular light beam. The light beam thus obtained is reflected by the prism so that it becomes substantially perpendicular to the beam emitted from the condenser lens. After reflection by the disc, the light passes through a splitter prism. The splitter prism has a reflecting surface and a transmitting surface which spatially bisect the light beam reflected from the disc, a lens and other components. The bisected portions of the beam fall on a photodetector for focussing control and a photodetector for tracking control.

  • Patent number: 4648915
Abstract: A billet made of a polycrystalline Mn-Al-C alloy magnet which is obtained by plastically deforming a Mn-Al-C alloy for magnet such as by extrusion at a temperature of 530.degree. to 830.degree. C. is used for compressive working. When the billet is hollow, it is entirely or locally compressed along the axis of the hollow billet. On the other hand, when the billet is solid, an outer circumferential portion of the billet is compressed. By the compression, the anisotropic structure of the portion where compressed is changed into an anisotropic structure having a direction of easy magnetization in radial directions. The magnet obtained by the method is also disclosed. The magnet has a radially anisotropic structure or novel structures having two different types of anisotropies therein.

  • Patent number: 4594576
Abstract: In an analog-to-digital (A/D) converter or a digital-to-analog (D/A) converter, a nonlinear D/A converter is employed. The nonlinear D/A converter comprises an absolute value circuit, a D/A converter, and another D/A converter having a function of multiplication. The latter D/A converter is responsive to a digital signal and to an analog signal from the former D/A converter so as to produce an analog signal indicative of the square of the digital signal. In an A/D converter, the nonlinear D/A converter is put in a negative feedback loop following an output of a successive approximation register so as to produce a reference signal with which an input analog signal to be converted will be compared by a comparator. The invention enables A/D conversion of a wide dynamic range signal by using a small number of bits, while quantization noise with respect to a low level signal is maintained low.
