Patent number: 5623382Abstract: A disk driving apparatus solves such problems that the position of a rotor is unstable and likely to float, and the rotor is displaced when an excessive acceleration is applied thereto, so that a hydrodynamic bearing mechanism can be used. This apparatus uses a single surface opposing type mechanism in a thrust bearing of a motor. It has a device using a magnetic attraction force to stabilize the position of the rotor and various devices for limiting the amount of movement of the rotor, in which devices members which physically contact the rotor and lock in are provided. As a result, a thrust bearing mechanism can be formed by use of a single surface opposing type thrust bearing which is simple in construction. Advantages such as low height, simplicity in construction, low price, or low consumption of power can be obtained. In particular, the feature of low height is extremely advantageous when a hydrodynamic bearing is used in a thin type apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 1995Date of Patent: April 22, 1997Assignee: Matsushita Electrical Industrial Co., Ltd.Inventors: Norishige Moritan, Minoru Kuroda, Hideshi Fukutani

Patent number: 5537345Abstract: An input register holds, as an input operand to be square rooted, a floating-point number with an exponential radix is 2. An approximation of the reciprocal of a square root is retrieved from a table information store unit by an address composed of a least significant bit of an exponent and upper bits of a mantissa provided from the input register. The mantissa, with a leading bit appended, is normalized by a normalization circuit in units of two bits. An output of a remainder hold circuit in which a 0th remainder serves as a normalized operand is multiplied by a retrieved approximation to find a partial square root. Partial square roots found in iterative calculations are merged by a digit place alignment circuit and an adder. By making use of an inverter, a multiplicand generator, and an (R+S.times.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 1994Date of Patent: July 16, 1996Assignee: Matsushita Electrical Industrial Co. Patent number: 5369624Abstract: In accordance with the principles of the present invention, advantage is taken by the inventors of the fact that the speed of operation of the digital hardware in a digital beamformer having a plurality of parallel receiving channels can be reduced by providing multiple phases for the data signals supplied by each receiving channel and then processing the multi-phase data in N parallel summing paths. An interpolation-decimation filter receives the multi-phase data from the N parallel summing paths and provides at its output a signal having a reduced data rate (1/N). In accordance with this technique, the speed of operation of the individual digital circuits for forming the required beamforming delays are not increased as compared to conventional post-beamforming interpolation schemes, so that hereby the effective data rate is increased by a factor N and the delay quantization error is reduced by a factor N.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 1993Date of Patent: November 29, 1994Assignees: Siemens Medical Systems, Inc., Matsushita Electrical Industrial Co. Patent number: 5025367Abstract: A parallel storage allocation method and device in which each space in a memory section that is available for use is associated with a respective allocator and stores an identifier for the respective allocator, data identifying allocators not in use is stored, and a list of allocators associated with spaces which are available for use is maintained. Each time a memory space is no longer in use a check is made to determine the allocator identifier of any already free space which can be combined with the memory space that is no longer in use. A liberate space token is generated which includes a first identifier corresponding to an allocator which is not in use and a second identifier which corresponds to any already free space to be combined. If the list of allocators relative to available space does not contain the allocator having the second identifier, the allocator having the first identifier is entered in the list with details of the no longer in use space.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 1987Date of Patent: June 18, 1991Assignees: Victoria University of Manchester, Matsushita Electrical Industrial Co., Ltd.Inventors: John R.
