  • Patent number: 7348077
Abstract: A magnetic recording medium based on the perpendicular magnetic recording system includes a substrate; a back layer which is formed on the substrate and which is formed of a soft magnetic material; an in-plane magnetized layer which is formed on the back layer and which has in-plane magnetization; and a recording layer which is formed on the in-plane magnetized layer and which has perpendicular magnetization, wherein the in-plane magnetized layer has a coercivity in an in-plane direction larger than a magnetic field generated by residual magnetization in a perpendicular direction of the recording layer. The influence on the reproduction output, caused by the mirror image effect of the soft magnetic back layer is reduced in wide range recording densities, thereby improving the resolution by decreasing the difference between the reproduction outputs of the magnetic recording medium at the low recording density and at the high recording density.

  • Patent number: 6977448
Abstract: Apparatus built-in backup power supply system has a “peak cut” function for sharing a part of the load current at the time of a peak load using a secondary battery. For this purpose, a two-way DC—DC converter 5 and the secondary battery 4 are installed on the DC output side of the AC-DC converter 3, and that portion of the load current that exceeds a predetermined peak cut level is discharged from the secondary battery 4 during peak loading. When the load is less than the predetermined cut level, the secondary battery 4 is charged from the AC-DC converter 3 via the two-way DC—DC converter 5. A suitable peak cut level is determined according to the state of charge of the secondary battery and load pattern, and is changed dynamically.

  • Patent number: 6956806
Abstract: A recording medium having a dummy signal area on at least one side of a recording area is used and information is recorded with a dummy signal added to at least one of the leading and trailing sides in the recorded information signal. The user data area remains unaffected by repeated overwriting so that recorded user data is reproduced correctly. In particular, the wave form distortion caused by fluidization of a recording film remains at the dummy signal area and does not affect the user data area, so that the reproduction of the target information (user data) is assured.

  • Patent number: 6693854
Abstract: External magnetic fields H(x) or reproducing light beams L(x) having different intensity patterns are applied to an identical recording position on a magneto-optical recording medium so that different pieces of information corresponding to the patterns are reproduced from the identical recording position. A function H(x) or L(x) is a password for obtaining the information. Only a person, who knows the function, can access specified information recorded on the magneto-optical recording medium. The function H(x) or L(x) is a function in which the magnetic field intensity or the light intensity is modulated with respect to the recording position x so that magnetic domains may be thinned out to perform reproduction at a specified cycle from continuous magnetic domains in a recording area.

  • Publication number: 20030107956
Abstract: A magneto-optical recording medium 11 is irradiated with a reproducing light beam 13 so that only a minute magnetic domain 313b, which is subjected to recording in a recording layer 18 and which is smaller than ½ of a spot radius of the recording light beam 13, is selected by a gate layer 17 and transferred to a magnetic domain-magnifying and reproducing layer 3. The magnetic domain transferred to the magnetic domain-magnifying and reproducing layer 3 is magnified by using a magnifying and reproducing magnetic field 411 of an alternating magnetic field. A large reproduction signal is obtained from the magnified magnetic domain 419, and the minute magnetic domain can be subjected to reproduction at a high resolving power and at a high S/N ratio. The magnified magnetic domain 419 is reduced by using a reducing reproducing magnetic field 415 of the alternating magnetic field. The gate layer 17 has a thickness which is not less than a thickness of a magnetic wall of the magnetic domain.

  • Patent number: 6482495
Abstract: The present invention provides an information carrier which has flat surfaces, is excellent in beautiful appearance and permits beautiful necessary printing, and a production process which permits easy and inexpensive production of such an information carrier. An IC chip 1 and a coil 2 connected to the IC chip are embedded in a substrate 3 composed of a nonwoven fabric. The IC chip and the coil are held between two nonwoven fabrics produced according to a conventional production procedure. The laminate of the nonwoven fabrics is fed to a roller or a press and the two nonwoven fabrics are hot-pressed, whereby their mating surfaces are joined with or without an adhesive (including low-melting synthetic resin fiber) incorporated into the webs. After positioning of the coil in the thus obtained raw product of information carrier, the laminate of the nonwoven fabrics and cover sheets is cut to obtain an information carrier of predetermined shape and size.

  • Patent number: 6333089
Abstract: A cavity surface-forming plate of a mold for injection-molding a plastic substrate is coarsely polished, and then a surface for defining a cavity is applied with electroless Ni—P plating. The surface of the plating is polished with abrasive grains to obtain surface roughness of Ra≦2.0 nm and Rmax≦22 nm. The plastic substrate molded with the mold has smoothness equivalent to the polished plating surface. A concave-convex pattern for forming pits may be formed on the cavity surface. A magnetic disk or an optical disk provided with the substrate makes it possible to realize the near contact system for a magnetic or magneto-optical head. Thus, it is possible to realize high density recording.
